What's new

Dennis Lindsey: We will be VERY active in free agency

No, I just want him to actually make a name, instead of naming the field. Ya feel me? I'm sure there will be a player taken after #12 that's close to as good as Hill...doesn't mean anything if you just call for the field though.

Well if he read any of your post, it would have been Wade "His floor is George Hill" Baldwin.

as was the plan all along

True but I could argue that last summer would have been a good time to bring someone in. But I wont waste to much time on it as I am loving where the Jazz are at now.

And by VERY active I'm sure he means- clear up the bottleneck at point guard by making one or two small trades. And then signing one or two mid to low level free agents (similar to the Trevor Booker signing) so we can make that 8 seed this year. Everything depends on getting this team to being average!

Why are you here? Do you have nothing better to do?

My FA list in no order and not complete, just who I could think of and with the reasons we probably wont get them. Although I think a few might take a 2 year deal at a higher pay rate or a 1 and 1 with team option:

Durant - Duh, but wont get him
Beal - Whatever is offered to him will get matched but I would love him on this team. He is young and I would take the risk on him being healthy. The kid can shoot.
DeRozan - Doubt he looks this way. He does hurt spacing a bit but would take a huge load of Hayward. We would have to look at moving some players in 2 years to keep him or any other 4 year large contract player.
Batum - Dont want to pay him max but if we could get him on a decent deal he would be a great fit
Parsons - Not sure how he is going to be after injury but if we got him on a decent deal he would be a good fit. 1 and 1 deal?
Kent Bazemore - He is probably getting over paid by some team but if not I would like him.
Evan Fournier - He is getting matched and it will probably be too much money.
Allen Crabbe - Same as Bazemore comments.
Eric Gordon - I would take a chance on him if he would sign a 1 year deal with a 1 year team option for a good size contract.
Marvin Williams - Good kid shoots the three and can play the 3 or 4, will probably be a decent price. We know what we are getting with him.
Marreese Spreights - Backup center that can shoot and play D. Probably costs more than we want to spend on that spot.
Gerald Green - Might get back to Phoenix form, might be able to get him for cheap to be a backup.

Why are you here? Do you have nothing better to do?

Because I'm a Jazz fan. I'm also logical. We've heard this "we plan to be very active" speech from our front office before. We know it doesn't amount to much activity aside from small moves here and there. The only off seasons that I remember that actually had large amounts of activity were the offseasons where we signed Boozer and Okur, and the one after we traded Deron when Boozer walked.

I think we can now safely say we know Dennis' MO. He likes to deflect attention away from real questions by talking about things that fans can't see. Players he almost traded for, players he considered trading, draft picks that were almost bought, players that nearly fell to the Jazz, FA's that he might have called, and success the Jazz almost had. It's an interesting technique, and effective for a new GM. I wonder if the effectiveness runs out over tine as the audience grows numb to the message.

Why would he answer that question? No matter who he says you will respond that that player either sucks or isn't nearly as good as hill.

You are really high on hill and hated almost everyone in the draft even guys that went earlier like j murray and buddy hield.

It's pointless for him to give you a name.... unless you can think of a guy that would have been available at 12 who you would rather have than hill. If not, then like I said, it's pointless for him to give you a name.

Also, why would he give up his right to bitch? As it stands, the expert armchair GMs on this board only have to hope that ONE player from 12 to 60 becomes a great player. Then they can use their expert armchair GM hindsight to forever bitch and moan that we didn't take that one guy out of 49 players that would have been better than trading for George Hill.

Or, if they had any gonads at all, they could name the guy who they think we should have stuck around for at 12, instead of trading for Hill. I mean really, who GAF if #bern says they are wrong? Time will prove whether or not their armchair expertise proves to be right.

Therefore, anybody who is unhappy with the trade and trashing DL, grow a damn pair and name the guy you prefer. Otherwise, do us a favor and STFU.

P.S. I apologize to anyone who doesn't like the trade, but is willing to wait and see. My pissy attitude is directed at those who are trashing DL and crying like little babies because they were cheated out of their Christmas in June draft present.

Cheers!;)

Please go back to your magical forest and smurf with your smurf berries until you are smurfy again.

I wouldn't equate very active to going after the really high priced FA's.
One player I do think he'll target hard is Mirza Teletovic (sounds like a character out of Games of Thrones).

During the draft, I wrote down the phrase, "The Fall of Skal" in case it's useful someday.

Idk about that. Let's say I disagree. I think Favors ever improving and at age 26 entering his prime. I'd like to have Favors. I think he can destroy both the Cavs and Warriors. He's so underrated. Gobert will remain unplayable against certain lineups. They can just put him in PnR situations on the perimeter against the best shooters in the playoff. And Gobert cannot defend that. He can't switch. But against other slower lineups, he'll be a beast.

I mostly disagree with you. I think Favors is close to his peak, due to his physical ailments. Besides, at the 5, his lack of size negates some of his defensive prowess.

Well, it seemed like other GMs were able to do it. I just think his heart/mind wasn't into doing it. The reality is that Jazz have a full roster so adding more young guys this year wasn't as important to him probably. Jazz have three picks next year.

The annoying part of it is the fake "we tried" excuse. I'd rather just have him state the Jazz are moving to the next stage which is to bring in additional veteran help.
I'm more annoyed by your claim that his explanation was fake. You definitely don't know that.

You're right maybe fake wasn't the right word, but the fact is that other GMs made deals. I am not upset about trading the pick because I like Hill. I just continue to hear the same old excuse that we tried. I realize that it is time to start adding solid veteran bench guys or better an elite FA so the Jazz can make the playoffs. I care more about production and less about we tried. I will just be a little skeptical until I see some results.

I liked the trade and I like the kid from Weber. I give DL a B-.

Two things I would like to see, clean up the roster a bit. Too many PGs. Get another solid veteran who can be a leader off the bench. My dream would be to sign a high profile FA. But I would be happy if DL just cleaned up the roster and got us some more bench help.

There were three draft day trades that involved a first round pick after #12. Here they are:

The Suns gave up 13 and 28 to the Kings for 8.
The Pacers gave up 20 and a future second for Thaddeus Young from the Nets.
The Hornets gave up 22 to the Kings for Marco Bellini.

Which of those picks which were moved do you think the Jazz should have grabbed, and what could they have given up for it? It's got to be better than what the seller of the pick got. It's a lot easier to sit on the sidelines and bitch that something didn't get done than it is to look at the actual facts and come up with a proposal that would work.

You sound very angry. There were plenty of moves in the second round. Perhaps instead of giving away our 12th pick we swapped it for the 21st and we give them a player or a second back next year. The fact is other GMs have made moves whether it was 3 or 10 it doesn't matter. I am not the GM so I don't have all the inside information that DL has.

It really isn't a big deal. Overall I think DL does a great job, I guess I'd rather just hear that there was no one they felt warrant a first round pick this year instead of we tried to get back into the draft but couldn't.
