What's new

Dennis Lindsey: We will be VERY active in free agency

Aaaaaand Timofey Mozgov signs for 4 years at $65 million. Good job Lakers! Sure the hell am glad we have Gobert and Favors!

LOL, they paid $65 million for a guy who couldn't get off the bench in Cleveland this year. The insanity has begun or maybe a better word is stupidity. Mark Cuban is pulling his hair out right about now.

On another note, that trade for Hill looks absolutely genius now, because, at these prices, we will only be signing one free agent at most.

Or we could have had 4 years of Murray on a rookie deal. The trade looked ok when it was rumored Hill was signing an extension. Now it's a 1 yr rental and either a walk or a massive overpay next summer.

And that extension for Favors starting at 18 million and descending from there? Yeah, that ain't happening. . .
I figured Favors would be in the $20M range at least. So if a contract can be worked that has him there at the end of the deal, I'd consider that a bargain.

I told u this **** was going to be bananas... Bookers market is said to be 10 M. Anyone still think Hayward won't get max and doesn't deserve it.

I hope we don't get any names in FA. Go after lesser known dudes... FA is a suckers game. Beg Hill and Favs to take all our remaking space for extensions.

It was likely going to be like 22, 23, 17, 18. I don't think I'd take it if I was him... We may have to go 22, 23, 23, 24... Remember dude can get like 30m per on a max deal if he waits... Still a discount

I also remember laughing at people who thought we could max beal and they'd be hard pressed to match... They took 30 seconds to give him the 5 year megamax.

I hope you're right. I'm just not sure what quality free agents want to sign only a 2 year deal when some teams will be spending so much.

Need a situation like Paul Millsap when no one offered him a large contract. The market dried up and he had to sign cheap with Atlanta. I could see a few players deciding on 1-2 yr contracts to enter free agency again soon.

Problem is market won't dry up for any established quality player...

I'd rather try for the James ennis' of the world unless Dudley takes a two year deal. I suspect him and hill get paid. Mozgov got 16 per in a deep center market... Wings and pgs is shallow.

Its going to end up like the NFL. A few guys will get big contracts on Day 1, some will be head scratchers. Medium contracts will go on days 2-7. After that you find bargain Free agents on short term deals. Right now everyone has so much cap space that the big contracts will go for a few days, but after 1-2 years, then teams will be closer to the salary cap and not as many guys will be getting paid. This is the year to be an average NBA player and become a Free Agent.

This market is not comparable to anything we've ever seen. It will adjust in a few years and be more normal but this market resembles the housing bubble more than anything we've seen in sports.

I'm getting more angry about last years free agency... If we overpay someone in this market I may quit jazzfanz because I'll be unbearable for a while.

Werent you just telling me that we need to sign guys at a discount at midnight because that is what happens most years?

How do you know its a 1 year rental? Just because he didnt get extension does not mean he wont stay. Also an 18 yr old rookie isnt helping us next year and maybe not even the year after. I assume you are talking about Dejounte Murray who never helps us at the PG spot.

My first preference is to not sign any big names but if we did then yeah go sign no name guys (there aren't many though). I was just mentioning the sign the lower tier guys (if that's your goal) early before other teams move off of the big targets. Last year many of the best deals were ones with non marquee free agents that didn't want to risk anything.

I need more context in the second quote. I was pretty consistent with my dislike for Dejonte Murray... What thread is that in?

Fair enough to the first part.

On the second part... My bad that was Stifle Tower s Post. I just mis copied.

Cool... That didn't sound like me.

If we sign someone this year I think it means we move Burks this year or around the draft... His money would be reallocated to retain Hill imo. With extensions and current salaries plus the chance that favs gets a raise it will be tough to keep everyone and not be above the millers pay scale.

But yeah that first lakers deal looks like ****... I'm so happy. They couldn't get meetings with anyone. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I am shocked the Lakers wouldnt go hard after Whiteside first and then try for Bismack (for less money) at the center spot. Hell Speights, Zaza, Nene or Aldrich for less money than they paid him would have been better options imo.
