Dennis Schroeder "will seek other opportunities to be a starter"...

Good post.
if there is any way that we could get dennis by only giving up burke and picks or some junk then we would have to do it right?
As long as we dont give up burks, hood, hayward, gobert, favors, or exum then we all agree that we should get this dude right?

I doubt it. It's not exactly an easy trade to construct, especially the part where it makes sense for ATL's playoff push this year.. The Hawks will probably only pull the trigger if its a rip-off, or if somehow they're sold on Trey,

I don't think Lyles is tradeable either.. It'd be for pennies on the dollar compared to trading the pick live during the draft. I see no reason to make that concession so early. Trading Lyles this early, would kinda be like The Nets trading Favors so early.. I can't advocate that..

I get your point but favors was a #3 pick and iirc the best high school prospect in the ocuntry. Favors had way more potential than lyles and a higher floor due to his size and athleticism.

Talent wise yes it makes sense to potentially go after him, but when has the Jazz ever gone after complaining players? You really think a 3rd year guy bitching about starting fits the "mold" of a Jazz player? What happens when Exum gets back?

Having seen Dennis, Rudy, and Tibor this summer in Köln I would welcome schröder with open arms!
He stood out on a court full of talented players. His presense, flair, and smooth play were easy
to notice. I was a big supporter of drafting him a few years back, but hes even better than I thought
he'd be at this stage. Is he a superstar no, BUT I think he good enough to lead us as a starter.
He still has a lot more ceiling left. He's a team player, can play up tempo, and is sexy as hell
when he passes.

The reason we wont get him is Dante Exum, but I'd trade Dante + a first for Dennis now.

If you want to win it all in the NBA, you have to have true star power. Exum has that potential; Schro, as much as I like him, does not.

Strange how two people can see two completely different things. I see very little star potential in Dante. He has no swagger, and is too timid.
I'd like to see another season before I completely write him off as a star, but first year was alarming. He was scared.

Dennis is the exact opposite. Lots of swagger, and confidence. He looks like a star on the court. He is certainly flashier.

We shall see. I hope I'm wrong because because its highly unlikely we would change course and go with Dennis now.
One thing I love about Dante is he does play within the system. That will make him solid at least. Worst case scenario is
we have a solid tall, bigger PG. I can live with that.

Schroder scored 16 points in the 4th quarter of a playoff game.. That's more then Exum's highest game last year..

I personally think Exum and Schroder can play together, (with the ball in Schroders hands).

Why would ATL, whos obviously a contender in the East, with a mature roster - trade Schroder, their best bench player, for a 20 year old with a bummed knee anyways? that part of this conversation eludes me.

Because he might not want to stay on as a bench player.

It would still make no sense because Teague only has 2 years left on his deal, which is the same amount that Schroeder has.

So why would they trade a RFA when the UFA that plays the same position could leave since the Hawks ultimately have no control where he goes.

I see very little chance unless someone offers them a very good offer, one that provides the Hawks with a clear present upgrade with a long-term contract that is favorable.

So you don't think Exum would be enticing enough a deal? Most of the other replies seem to indicate that the majority thinks its stupid for the Jazz to offer Exum, not the other way around.

Schroeder has already indicated that he wants to be a starter. If he continues to produce this year, he might not want to resign without guarantees of a starting role. The Hawks may not care and match anyway, but I think avoiding a situation with a disgruntled player will give them second thoughts. Not to forget any potential conflict with Teague if Atlanta offer Schroeder a large contract.

I doubt ATL trades Schroder. Despite his PR, he doesn't stike me as a guy who is going to give them a serious bitching-fit to get traded. The worst he might do is have his agent ignore a few phone calls, or maybe bring a german fruitcake to the team Christmas party. None of that sort of petulance will be enough to force a trade.

If anyone tries to bring a German Fruitcake to my party they're not gunna know what hit them because I will knock them out with a German Fruitcake.

Exum was compared by some NBA scouts to Kobe Bryant. He was grouped in with Wiggins, Jabari, and Embiid as the potential franchise changers in the 2014 draft. David Locke said in his podcast that when we drafted Exum, someone in the Jazz FO texted him: "Five years from now, we'll look back at today as the day that changed the Utah Jazz."

I like DS (most people on Jazzfanz do, and most of us liked him before the 2013 draft), but he has never received the same mountain of hype that surrounded Exum. We tanked for this guy; we have to stay the course and hope he develops into the star the FO believed they were getting--all the reasons he received the hype are still there: unreal combination of size and speed (no, the injury does not change that), high BBIQ, etc.

No because I don't think Exum is a clear and present upgrade to Schroeder.

Maybe someone like Burks would be, because they don't really have any scoring wings.

If Atlanta offers Schroeder a large contract, that probably means they aren't signing Teague. If someone offers Schroeder a large contract, and they can get Teague for cheaper, maybe they sign Teague. It's a really nice security blanket to have.

Either way, I don't see the making any move with either of them this year. This will be more relevant discussion next year.

I remember reading stuff about him pre-draft that he was kind of volatile and a hot-head. I don't know if any of that was substantiated, but it was out there.

Yeah, I like Schroeder and would love to have him, but I'm not even sure I would trade Burks for him. No way would I give them Exum.

I do question the power move of making this statement in his 3rd year though. It just doesn't seem necessary to make that kind of comment public until your 4th year, for him and his team.

Exactly.

Interesting. Do you think such rumors would be enough to cause DL to shy away? Exum still projects to take over the starting spot next year.

This. I love you spy but I see NO star power in Dante. Schröeder on the other hand shows Rajon Rondo at his peak flashes of brilliance, only with a better overall offensive game. This kid in two years could be a top 3 point guard in this league. Yep, that good. Dante? I just didn't see anything other than some solid 3 and d.

His statement was intelligently calculated. He didn't seem disenchanted or like some entitled NBA jerk. He thinks he's great and wants to start. I can't blame him and find it to be true.
