What's new

Did Hayward's LEADERSHIP blow anybody away last year?

Ugs will leave us for a big market like Spurstalk once his contract is up.

#CallingIt

Where will UGLI and PKM go and who is the third star they take with them? I heard they tried to recruit colton. High BBIQ (basketball board IQ) and he does all the dirty work (grammar, calls people out for inappropriate posts, etc). But management won't let him leave.

AKMVP opted out already and is an UFA, just waiting to see what happens. And I hear they'll try to coax the legendary LTV out of retirement - once they find him.

Lol @ the thought of colton doing dirty work.

I like how HAYWARD is the one that puts his hands up. What a man.

Is your best player always your leader? DWILL for example, wasn't a great leader and he was our best player. He had a pouty way of trying to lead. I'm not sure that's good leadership.

It's just hard to find a really good player who also knows how to lead. I'm not sure you can expect to have that on every team.

I also think coaches are often forgot about. They are after all, hired to lead. Maybe Snyder can lead the team.

Leadership is a good quality to have, but not a prerequisite for greatness. Also leadership isn't displayed the same way among any two players.

According to basketball-reference.com, his leadership share/36 minutes were even with Jerry West, Akeem Olajuwon, and Rik Smits.

I don't think Hayward's leadership blew me away last year. However, I can say with confidence that his Hayward's leadership did blow.

Hopefully, you didn't make an account just for that joke

the better question is what is a leader? I see different types

- the guy who is first to the gym last out. leadership by example
- the guy who is grounded and helps those around him be grounded. the psychologist leader
- the leader that has a vision of what can be and gets those around him to buy into it. the coach extension
- there is leader that will almost physically get people to do what they want because they are that good. MJ leadership
- the friend that gets everyone to get along. leadership by friendship (playing as a unit)

to be honest there really needs to be a couple different leaders on the team. personally I want my leader to be the first one in the gym last out but grounds everyone around him. more concerned about the team then himself. I think Gobert can be like the last one. Stockton was a leader but he was an extension of Jerry Sloan on the court.

Next season, Trey will be the leader just as he was in year 2 at Michigan. Were any of you a leader during your first year in the workforce after college?

Yeah I thought criticizing Trey in this thread was ridiculous. The guys the youngest and least experienced player on the team and somebody found a way to say something negative about him.

Solid post. I'd actually tweak the last leader and call it the cheerleader. Ya know, those guys who don't play or barely play at all but are always positive and encouraging to their teammates, up cheering when they score, rooting the guys who do play on.

Personally, I want the MJ type, a #4 but who also is a #1, like MJ himself was. You can get get in a teammates face all you want and try to challenge them and lead them like a #4 but unless you yourself are a very good player and work as hard as anyone else like a #1, no one's gonna listen.
