What's new

DoL on 1280

If Ingles is getting a consistent 20 minutes a game next year, we have a problem.
I don't think so. While I'd be surprised if he's getting that much next year I believe he's a rotation player in the NBA and fully expect 10-15 from him next year. If he's closer to 20 we probably have had injuries. But he's good enough to step in for that role when needed.

If we bring over Tomic Im fine with standing pat on FAs.
With Burks, Tomic, and a new lotto pick thats more than enough to make the playoffs, and not ruin chemistry/growth.

Ante Tomic would be our big "FA" addition of the summer.

I'm hoping for Tomic, plus a vet PG who would take Burke's spot.

New York - where careers go to die.

I'm fine with standing pat on FA's as well. No glaring holes where we need an FA to address a starting spot (I say that since I think Exum makes a leap next season).

Between Rudy, Favors, and hopefully Dante we'll have our own guys we'll need to lock up with max(ish) deals before too long. I trust DL keeps this in mind as he's evaluating the FA class.

This and moving up in the draft is a dream scenario for me.

Pretty much my sentiment as well. Keep Cotton around as the high upside backup.

DL has been great... He hasn't been afraid to be active and shake things up a bit. I think we get at least two out of three of those things. I'd love to DL's true thoughts on Trey.

I started a thread on this speculation (awhile ago).

My guess: he thinks of Trey as a final compromise with (and sacrifice to) the old order. "Ty's pick." When the 'intangibles' of old-jazz ways of thinkings didn't pan out too well, then DoL's metrics were able to gain new trust and acceptance.

Following the pick that landed Trey: Rudy, Exum, Hood. All look like hits who create matchup problems.

I think you are right that it wasn't really all him on the call to draft Trey. I want to know what he thinks about Trey's prospects as a pro... does he think he's going to develop a bit more and become an effective backup or is he putting out feelers throughout the league to see what his value is.

It is pretty clear they like Cotton... Coach and GM have both praised his pace. Something Trey has struggle with.

Isn't Freakazoid referring to Trey as "Treyd"? I think that probably captures what DoL would like to do.

That is kind of where I was too, but it might be a little dangerous to do right now. I am not sure he has a ton of value and PGs generally take a decent leap in their third year.

That said it would make a lot of sense to get a steady vet to backup Exum.

DoL probably takes blame for the Trey pick, as he should, the buck stops with him. Corbin, theoretically, spent the year coaching the team, it was up to DoL and his staff to handle the scouting for the draft. So to let Ty come in and override the whole scouting dept doesn't make sense to me. My guess is that DoL liked him as well. That's not a stretch, considering how 90% of this board was hot after Trey too. It was only the prescient few such as I who called it that Trey would be Jameer Nelson at best. Dang I'm good.

Having said that, I'm pulling for Trey to make a big leap.

I wouldn't say Trey's been a bust. He was the #9 pick in a pretty bad draft, and so far he's been a very medicore NBA PG. Probably about expected.

I'm really not on the "Trade Trey" train, for a few reasons:

1. Exum is our starter next season. Period. Trey's stock is not high right now, and I really doubt we could move him for a really good backup PG, so he's probably our best bet as a backup PG next year.

2. He's really cheap on his rookie deal. Never a bad thing.

3. He's going into his third year and has starter experience. He still has room to improve, learn not to play hero ball and have a really solid season next year.

I say we just ride the wave and let him play out his rookie deal. Beyond that, who knows?

I've heard The Jazz still think Burke can be a Lou Williams-type player. I think next year will be big for Burke. They will take some responsibility off him and give it to Burks/Hood in hopes that Burke becomes a lot more efficient. If not...his days may be done. I don't think Utah soul hesitate to move him either.

Locks podcast does a breakdown of the Lindsey interview. Lock believes the jazz have identified their strength as coaching young talent. They are reluctant to bring in old veterans because it goes away from their coaches strengths.

Locke's statement is a bit dubious -- If Locke is right, what do the Jazz do once their young guys become old vets? I think Snyder also has the coaching skills to win with established players. Or else the Jazz will run the Scotty Brooks experiment, part 2.

Let us assume that Snyder isn't as good at teaching vets. As this groups grows Snyder will to. He will learn as they do. So as this group becomes vets (Id argue that Hayward, Burks and Favors already are) Snyder will improve his tactics.

Self solving.

Prediction: Someone is going to overpay for Carroll and he'll take the money and run. It won'd be the Jazz.

Well if the Jazz trade Burke for a vet PG, bring over Tomic, move up in the draft and bring back Cotton, Ingles and Millsap I'll be fine if Carroll doesn't come back to Utah v

So many possibilities.
