Donovan is pissed at some stupid Jazz Fans

Boo Quin for having the players take so many threes. Mitchell is good because he is the only player driving anymore on the team. The rest stand around an brick up threes. I hated when Malone stopped attacking settling for long twos. I couldn't stand Boozer shooting instead of attacking. Now the whole team just shoots and only Mitchell attacks.

A chorus of boos is just too hurtful on a psychological level, especially when aimed at a single player. If people would put themselves in the position of Rodney, with the torment of 20,000 people looking down upon you with boos raining down from many of them, they would probably act differently.

The thing is, Rodney is actually pretty damn good when he drives and creates. Maybe there's some advanced stats that would refute that, but I think he needs to come out and get his first 2-3 shots in the paint every game. I also think he needs to be starting with Mitchell and Ingles.

The bottom line is booing our own guys does no good. Hayward was forced to go get a contract that the Jazz matched and they wouldn’t give him max money. Now even though they matched that offer and paid him all that money little things like that can factor into a players decision whether you like it or not. The NBA is driven by star talent. Little things like that athletes can and will remember. Sure you have a right to boo, but the players and teammates of the player your booing have a right to remember it and hold it against you. Hayward never mentioned the organization in any of his thanks and the way he handled his departure via texts, etc. showed some serious disrespect. But is that because he’s felt disrespected the last time he was up for signing? He thanked the fans, never the organization. Sorry, but the smallest factor even years later can play a hand in decisions especially when you have several teams offering you millions to come play for them.

Locke before Hayward left said several times the incumbent is always at a disadvantage. All the scars, all the bad memories, all the negatives are on the team you already know. Fans booing your teammates is not a positive memory, and for an athlete, may be something you hold onto even years later. I’m not saying that’s what will happen, but when teams are offering Mitchell max money wherever he wants to go the smallest bad memories can factor into decisions. You or I might not hold onto things for that long, but it feels like Hayward may have in the way he exited. Not once did he thank the organization that didn’t offer him max money and made him go get his own contract, and then he left them with a text. Not the main or only reason he left, but that memory didn’t help the Jazz in trying to keep him. Athletes are wired different, and to think things like this don’t affect future decisions is naive.

If anything we need more guys to shoot open threes. Threes are not the same as long twos. They are way more efficient ways to score. Did we teleport back to the 80's when we didn't understand this principle? Guys need to take the open shot all the time in this offense. To me it is so dumb to get upset that this team isn't performing. We are missing our best player, and two key reserves. We also picked up a player that was meant to compliment a guy who left, and doesn't really fit. If anything I think DL deserves some blame for making the choice to desperately go after Rubio instead of waiting to see if Gordon would commit. I also think the decision to bring in that player (Rubio) was just questionable overall. I see fans get upset about Quin's offense so much and I just wonder who in their right mind would criticize a system that produces so many open shots with so little offensive talent? I can only conclude that it is people who don't understand the modern game.

I'm not going to go through every shot like you did but he shot 5 or 7 after starting 1 of 7.

He clearly improved in the second half - I don't know if it was because of the boo's but I pointed out that it was interesting that he did. So maybe his skin is a little thicker than even he thinks it is.

I'm not saying I would have boo'ed, what I am saying is that if I'm a guy and I'm plunking down 3 bills plus to take myself and my family to a game to watch a guy, virtually single-handedly (yes, I know, he wasn't the only one) shoot them out of a game, while the team has been losing, then I'd be inclined to boo too. I certainly wouldn't blame him anyway.
Ahh yes, the "I paid money so I get to act like an *******" argument.

But they sure don’t like it when players use the argument....”I’m gonna get paid regardless”..... You bought your ticket, that’s true. You have a right to boo, that’s true. Players simply have the right to remember, and take their talents elsewhere. From a fans perspective I understand the sentiment, players obviously don’t. Hood didn’t handle it well as you see from his comments last night, and Mitchell didn’t like it either. You can think that’s petty or they should be able to handle criticism better, but if they don’t they don’t. If they feel slighted they eventually will look at the greener grass elsewhere. You may have paid your ticket price, but 29 other teams have money to spend, and sure every crowd participated in bad fandom one way or another, but that doesn’t mean the grass doesn’t look greener elsewhere. The team or a certai player shouldn't feel worse at home than on the road. If they do, you aren’t a very good fan. Like it or hate it, super stars are what make the NBA and get you wins. The Jazz have one, be patient, give the organization some time to figure this out after a devastating offseason—as well as players like Hood who have been thrown through more than one loop this season, don’t chase your first real talent in a couple decades out the door by booing his teammates for no good reason and to no benefit.

I like the idea of Rodney taking pressure off by getting aggressive vs. relying on shooting to get going. If Quin could have him pass more that might help too. But do we really want Rodney to start playing well?

I mean, if you go to a movie and you dont like it, do you open up your cellphone and start talking?

It's the same thing. People are going to the Jazz game, usually to root for the Jazz and have a good time. They dont want to hear some losers boo.

It's amazing to me that fans don't understand how fans act. They cheer. The boo. They get emotional. Fandom.
If you're butthurt because fans boo athletes for whatever reason they choose, whether you agree or not, you're a cupcake and a ******.

Fans understand it, I understand it....it’s obvious players don’t understand the mentality of fans directed boos at someone in particular. You can call them a cupcake, it doesn’t change how they feel about it nor does it mean they won’t remember it at a later date.

Nah, it's ******. It's just ******.

There's a difference between being butthurt and calling someone out on boo-rish behavior. :)
