Barnes is a poor, poor version of Glen Rice. He'll be nothing more than an average starting player at best.
Didn't Glen Rice bone Sarah Palin?

This is a cop-out answer, but I see Barnes being a better pro than collegian. He looks like the kind of player that you can give the ball to as a shot clock is winding down and he can make something happen. Why do I think that? Totally a hunch. Two of my previous favorite players are his best/worst case scenarios: D-Wade and Corey Brewer (yeah, I thought Brewer would be a player...oops). We'll see. Wing players are hard to project college to NBA.
He couldn't even do that against average college athletes, he's not going to be able to do it in the NBA. I usually agree with most of what you say YB, but I can't get down with this.
Personally, I think Barnes is this year's Evan Turner -- won't be a bust, overrated, destined for the OJ Mayo fringe starter class. He plays in the one conference I happen to watch, and every time I saw him he played well. But he can't drive. I don't like wing players drafted high in the lottery who can't drive or shoot the lights out.
They say he can shoot, but looking at his numbers I'm pretty wary. My thing, whether it's scientific or not, is to separate how a guy does in conference from the rest of his numbers as long as he plays in a power conference like the ACC. Off the back of the napkin:
2011: 38/109 -- 35% from 3
2012: 21/78 -- 27% from 3
And his tourney performances in both years has been pretty unspectacular. Like Turner, he puts up numbers through volume and is a plus rebounder. I love him at 12, hate him at 5.
Does he have an ego? I have no idea. The thing I notice with Barnes is his overall numbers stayed the same freshman to sophomore. Yet his draft stock seems to be climbing, and my take was his stock last year was based on the idea that he was only a freshman and just tapping his talent. So now he's the same player he was freshman year, but a better prospect?
I think the ego thing is way overblown.
His draft stock has not really risen. At one point (coming out of HS) he was being mocked as the #1 overall pick. As his freshman season wore on, he slid. He fell to around 4 or 5. Then, when his soph campaign didn't see him get much, if any, better, his stock dropped to 7 or 8. Now, with the season over, he's settling back into that average of 4 - 6.
In HS he created far more. Got to the rim much more often. He does seem to have gotten somewhat exposed. It's strange, though, because his size and athleticism suggest he should be able to do these things (even at the NBA level). I think he just doesn't have the 'it' .. the mentality/attitude. He has the size and skill to be worthy of the 2nd pick .. but he's shown he lacks the fortitude.

He played in Iowa. I could create offense there.
