Eurobasket 2013

Lithuanian coach just took page from Turkey's coach playbook. Ignore your best post up players and lets chuck long offbalanced jumpers. Serbian guards on the other hand are so fast and athletic, just crazy transition speed.

This is so crazy. Germany's Staiger hits a 3 over Parker from a feet out of NBA 3 point range with 50 sec remaining. Next play, he hits another 3 over Parker with foul. The following offense Benzing scores an contested 3 with 19 sec to go for a 4 point lead...In the end Benzing seals it from the charity stripe. This is crazy!

Even last play was similar. Lithuania needed 2 3ps 15 secs remaining but they were still chasing a 2 pointer. Were they thinking about the average? Stupid.

Solid appearance by the Serbian team on the other hand. Ivkovic is a true master.

YES! Germany have done it! Another upset, great first day. This game meant to be won by Germany. The last threes were unbelievable. A totally well deserved win.

Results of the first day.

Why did JV get only 11 minutes? BTW Serbia has ensured their backcourt for about 10 more years with Bogdanovic & Nemanja Nedovic. Especially Nedovic an unorthodox european guard very athletic and quick sort of reminiscent of Dragic. He got NBA material and might be a steal for Phoenix with the 60th pick. Time will tell..

JV played poorly, got called for few phantom fouls and in general LT was playing from perimeter mostly.

Nedovic is crazy fast. And he will play for GSW where his style will fit like a glove.

On June 27, 2013, Nedović was picked 30th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, via a trade for that pick with the Phoenix Suns. He signed with the Warriors on July 9, 2013.

I agree. Will he spend some more time in Europe or start his NBA career with the next year?

Question is there anybody good enough to challenge Spain? Good thing they are not full strength either or this might be a laugher. Greece with a resounding win, but against Sweden so hard to take much out of that.

Spain's win against Croatia might be deceptive. Turkey lost to Finland today but won against Croatia 81-52 just 10 days ago. They are horrible right now.

France, Greece, Serbia, Lithuania all can beat Spain. Maybe even Slovenia with the support of the crowd.

France almost always underperforms as we know. Also they are missing almost all their good big men.

They already started to underperform with Germany loss. But with the tournament structure anything can happen.

Latvia wins again, this time a 1pt win thriller vs Montenegro. Croatia escapes with 1 pt win vs Georgia on Tomic last second basket. He finished with 7pts, 2reb, 7ast. Ukraine beats Israel. Finland is being nice surprise so far, second win in the tournament already, this time over neighbours Sweden by 21 pts.

Looks like Dario Saric finally show the flashes what hes capable of with 6/6 on the floor, 12 points in 16 minutes.

Finland probably got the best fan support so far in the tournament and having a good guard like Koponen is a huge advantage and taking the team a couple of steps further in this tournament. Other players know their roles well and trying not to go beyond that and thats pretty enough for beating unorganized teams like Turkey or Sweden who is relying on individual performances of Jeffrey Taylor and Jonas Jerebko. I think they might make a surprise against Russia too.

7 assists by Tomic? Damn. Wish he would bring his *** over already.

Thanks for the summaries, all. Will try to rep when 24 hours are up

But besides passing he was not that impressive. Was totally outmatched against M.Gasol in game vs Spain and would play outside of the paint in NBA most of the time. Latvia has no quality bigs and yet he grabbed only 2 reb. Since he is neither 3 point threat nor good paint protector/shot blocker I do not see him helping Jazz in any significant way. I think Gobert has way more to offer then Tomic IMHO.

Turkey vs Italy just started. If Turkey loses this one they would really complicate their chances of advancing.
