Exotic Animal Trophy Hunting

People who hunt for food (that they need to survive) and people who really do hunt only because of population control or protecting their livestock I understand.

I believe that very few hunters do it simply for population control or whatever noble cause. Most people hunt because they enjoy it. I think it's strange to get enjoyment out of killing things. But again, to each their own. I ain't trying to stop anybody.
None of the serious trophy hunters I know fit the description of someone who kills for joy (though I have met some idiots who are like that). The most prominent among them is, in my opinion, the greatest lover of animals I have ever met. He invests huge amounts of money in wildlife. He holds animals in great awe and respect. He's absolutely fascinated by the natural world. What I've said might sound over the top, but believe me, it's an understatement.

Hunting does have functionality and I'm totally fine with those who hunt according to mandated regulations regarding that given species. I'm not arguing against that. Tons of hunting that goes down in Alberta.

We're not talkin' 'bout your trim hunts, bro.

I use to have this dream that my town was overrun with lions. Like as many lions as people.

I actually fictional read a book recently where animals sense of smell, how it wired their brains and how it made them perceive humans got changed by humans effects on nature. Cellphones waves, plastics...

Basically animals started killing all humans. All animals. Lions, dogs, bears, rats, dolphins, deer, hippos...

Book starts by a pair of Lions at the LA zoo escaping by killing a zoo employee, then a nearby golfer...

I couldn't figure out what he was talking about until I read your post and realized Stoked was talking about a fictional book.

I don't get the anti-trophy crowd.

I trophy hunt mule deer. Senseless killing? I guess. Sport? Absolutely. I have killed two deer in my 20 years of hunting. I could have taken a deer every single year I've hunted but have not. The blood lust y'all are trying to make every hunter out to be is a bit over the top.

I also don't care one bit about game "wasting" for certain species (deer, fish, coyote, mountain lion). Deer will waste in the winter to a much more cruel death if we don't manage them. Fish are stupid and we stock the hell out of them so why should I care, especially in reservoirs where overpopulation stunts their growth?

I like hunting but I don't consider it a sport. A hobby probably even a craft but not a sport. I like camping, hiking, rock hounding as well but I don't consider those things sports. Is a wildlife photographer engaging in a sport? Why do some hunters need to call it a sport? I don't get it.

You got to justify covering yourself in deer piss.

How is you vs. the animal not sport? Only you vs. another human can be considered sport? Are rodeo events a sport only because there are other riders? If that's a sport then trying to one-up your friends and peers in trophy hunting is a sport. If you are hiking in competition with friends then that is sport. If you are rock hounding against others, trying to find the best gem then that is sport. Either way you look at it hunting is sport.

You try hauling the damn things out. Plus, it takes skill to stalk up on a wild animal in its own environment.

Binge drinking is a sport too... apparently.

You sound about as athletic and skilled as a happy meal. Quite trying to equate your fativities with sport.

Should be.
If it were, I'd watch

*****.

I'd participate. Prob my most impressive accomplishment was in the fall of 1995 at one of my college's XC parties. Had 11 Molsen Ice's in an hour and 10 minutes. Puked off the front porch. Had two more in about 15 minutes and then drove a couple miles back to campus. So 13 Ice beers in less than an hour and a half. At 165 pounds.
