Favors got extended

Am I the only one on this board who thinks Ibaka>Favors? Yet Ibaka is considered a bit overpaid. How does this make Favors' contract a fair deal?

Market value

For those complaining that the Jazz paid Favors too much you have to realize the market. Last year very few teams had money to make max offers and some of those teams were going into rebuilding mode. Next year I believe more than half the teams in the league will have room to offer max deals. Many teams were clearing space because some really good free agents are on the market next year. When these four or five players are gone, there are going to be numerous teams looking for players with max money available. That is a bad recipe for teams hoping to sign players.

Paying Favors a little more than you were hoping is a sign that the Jazz front office are smarter than you and me. I haven't always thought that. I do now.

Ibaka is way better than Favors. Anyone who says otherwise is just being a ridiculous homer. We don't even know if Favors can start and play significant mins without fouling out.

I will admit that Ibaka is better than Favors right now on offense and that he is a better shot blocker. However, Favors is a better rebounder, passer (which is saying something), and better at something on defense (not sure how to measure it) that allows him to get steals at quite a bit higher rate. The gap between them is not that wide. One thing is for sure, the Thunder should have kept Harden and dealt with the consequences: Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Ibaka, and space-filler Perkins. Holy crap! Championship city. Too bad we have to see that crap team in Miami win it every year.

dude, fish, you usually are spot on but not this time. Stephen a curry is without a doubt a max player. I'd take the Steph Curry of last year over any point guard in the league. That's if he can keep it up and stay healthy. Which I think he will, at least skill wise. Injuries might be a different story. In fact, I'd take a healthy Curry over almost everyone. He's a top 5 player in my book.

Agreed..... non injury steph = max
Problem is that those ankle would make me reluctant to max him.

I have bad ankles too (have broke both twice, and quite a few sprains) and I know thay they are never really fixed.

He will hurt his ankles more, I guarantee it (its unfortunate cause I am also a big steph fan)

Pretty fair deal IMO.

Difference is ankles are Steph's marketability whereas your's are your knees.

Always cool when a jazz fan can admit being a fan of basketball outside. Not sure I agree on Curry undersigning tho.

Twoish mil per year overpay is one player on the end of the bench, like the tenth guy. Not a big loss. Enough has been said about his value, and I think he may just be worth it right now if he can handle starter minutes.

Someone mentioned that he needs a point guard. I fully agree. Most everyone agrees that Al needed to go, but now we are wanting Favors to play the same as Al did, namely post up and have some unstoppable post move. He's not that guy, he's a mover who could be much more dangerous if a point guard can get him the ball in the right spot. I believe that Favors best offensive ability is to get the ball on the move and blast it to the hoop. In fact that is what he said isn't it? That he wanted to have offence in the flow of the game? We already have a post anchor in Kanter, we don't need two, and the less those two imitate each other, the better we will be. He does need to develop his shot more to keep his defender up close so he can blow by, but that can be learned. I think he needs to be himself, and if he is a superstar defender and a starting quality offensive player, he's worth more than he's getting.

Edit: concerning Favor's personality, Kanter is the loud noisy type, while favors is the reserved moody type. Another reason that it's ok to have them both, they probably compliment each other even on the personality front.

Nothing personal, but please see my sig.

I really think this will help Favors. He said it was a relief to get this worked out and that he's really looking forward to living in utah and making this his team. I really like his mentality, this season is just getting better!

Ibaka is 1 year older, his development is almost over. Ibaka played with Durant and Westbrook, while Favors sat on the bench behind Jefferson and Millsap. That said his offenses are comparably dismal and limited to catching lobs and crashing the offensive glass at this point. Favors has a better likelihood to improve it. Defensively Ibaka is more established being a regular rotation cornerstone for the pre-contending Thunder. So they may be worth similar right now with Ibaka having a small edge. But the value of Favors's contract will probably match his on court production better than Ibaka does.
That being said I'm not a fan of super athletic defensive minded shotblocking PFs. You give them Dirk or just Matt Bonner to play against and their defensive efficiency is ruined for the game.

So true. Only the last sentence removed you from getting repped, sorry. In 11/12 Harden was on the team, but they couldn't win it. Last year Westbrook got injured. No matter if Harden was still on that team w/o Westbrook they don't beat the Heat.

Haha. NICE

Maybe we watch different NBA but Ibaka from the one I watch has reliable jump shot extended to college three pt line in his repertoire in addition to what Favors brings.

Oww I checked his shot chart and you're right. Somehow I only watched the games when he was off or the highlights made it seem like it.
