Favors returns!

For those out there calling DL a genius. Favors was going to leave for more long term money. DL and the delegation went to Atlanta to convince him to sign basically a 1 year deal.

DL and company only convinced him to come back by giving him so much guaranteed money. I bet the farm that the original one year amount was not this high. That's why they talked for 3 hours and Mitchell used social media and Favors took his time.

Mitchell only took to social media AFTER the meeting got done. So no, that doesn't fly. Favors got his deal with the possibility of a second contingent on his play this season (i.e. stretching the floor). It's more than his value at present, granted. But he gets a chance to play into that value. If not, he walks or is trade. There is no downside here.

There are only like 6-7 that can/will use their full mid-level and the Jazz is one of the most attractive ones. Most teams are too close to luxury tax territory to even consider using it.

I'm not even sure there are that many left. SA used theirs... Milwaukee and NY too. Space teams are Indiana, Chicago, and Atlanta (maybe LA).

Where did you get this info? Link? Or is this your opinion ?

Favors was debating options. He was thinking about what to do. Mitchell encouraged him to accept the deal.

I agree there is no downside. The amount, however, got that high because Favors had to be convinced.

And I stand corrected - because of this large amount and it being nonguaranteed year 2, there is a chance we trade it midseason. Once again only possible by paying $18 million this season.

Good deal FO. Well done

I highly doubt this was the case... If Favs would have accepted 4/40 I think we'd have given him that. Don't see a cap space team that was going deep for Favs and there were no other rumors surrounding Favs.

I think it is what it is... they wanted to meet with him and they are close... talk basketball stuff for an hour, but other stuff too. He wanted to look at his options, but we were always in pole position.

Bargains come later. We don't even know if we have a roster spot yet... and you don't know who they are talking with. they are generally pretty quiet... and then things pop up when they are done.

Right, there may be no roster spots because we guaranteed Thabo. I might be much happier when I see where things go, but so far I'm not excited.

Also for people crying about the amount it doesn't matter. We are operating over the cap now. So whether it was 10 or 20 does not effect our team this year. It just a little extra the Millers are paying. Paying more got us a happier player, a 2nd year option, and a motivated player.

I think it has to be more than obvious that a 1-2 year deal was going to cost more per year than a 4 year deal. Good call by the Jazz FO for multiple reasons.

The reality is that many Jazz fans have unrealistic expectations or don't understand just how much salary inflation there has been the last few years. 18 million is not as much as it used to be in NBA dollars. 10 million can you get a solid backup. 15-20 million is what you expect for a quality starter. All-stars cost a minimum of 25 million.

I heard on the radio that the contract has many incentives in it so favors might not even get the 18 million this season if he doesn’t play well.
