Favors returns!

It's the same amount that you can back load a contract. I.e. if you can do a 10 million - 26 million contract (you can't), then you can do a 26 million - 10 million contract.
So you said what can't happen. Any idea what can? Kind of a non-answer there.

I said he was worth 10 mil. He signed for almost double that. He isn't worth that contract.

He was worth more than 10, especially if it's a 1 year contract. He's probably worth 14 or 15 to most teams and worth more than that for the Jazz due to wanting to be here and chemistry with the team.

He likely would have received more than this if anybody had money and is likely to next off season.

That's all I had time to write, thought I gave you enough info that you could Google it from there.
I think it's been established I am far too lazy to Google. Thanks for the response anyway.

He was an overpay. Lets call a spade a spade. Cousins signed for 5m. Ed Davis, who does most of what Favors does, signed for 4m. Noel like 2m a year. That said Favors is zero drama, hard worker, and was on a bargain contract for the last 4 years so not going to spazz over a likely 1 year deal.

How heavily can you front load a contract? Can we give him 24 mill this year and have only 12 on the books next year? Or 26 and 10? Something like that? I am not a cap-ologist.

7.5% declines/yr. The only way to do anything like you're suggesting would require a partial guarantee of that 92.5% and let him walk. That only makes sense for Utah if they retained enough flexibility for a max contract while retaining the ability to keep Favors another season if not.

The only other scenario I can think of is saying "look, dude, we can give you $15 this season and next but only $5 guaranteed. We release you next summer and you basically get $20 for this year and can get another long term contract, or we can renegotiate yours to make up for the $3 mill loss this year. Scouts honor". That's a long shot scenario for an injury prone player.

Favors’ deal has a base salary of $16 million per season and could reach $37 million in incentives, league sources said.

Most those incentives are probably listed as "not likely" for sal cap purposes. Things like make the All Star team, etc. If Favors earns all 15% then get the hell out of Utah's way.
