Feeling Better About This Team

Watching House navigate screens so easily compared to our other guards gives me huge amounts of hope. Imagine having that in the Denver series to help slow down Murray. It’s crazy dumb we haven’t found someone on House’s level until now. I remember many folks saying how average/below average he is as a wing… if he’s so generic I’m shocked we didn’t add someone like him years ago.
House has been really good. The only worry I have is we are still in the honey moon phase. He's probably not going to continue to shoot as well as he has. We're probably all overexaggerating his positives and ignoring his negatives a little. Remember when Rudy Gay was the greatest player in Jazz history for a little bit.

In his early games he was playing with a dislocated finger. It will heal up and he probably won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn.

I'm less worried about Golden State than I probably should be. I think their early success this year was due to an easy schedule and some of their role players having an outlier amount of success. Obviously if they can get Draymond and Klay back and rolling they will be scary.

GS has a really tough schedule to close and Draymond is still a ways from coming back. We are only 3 games back of them in the loss column right now it would be interesting if both us and Memphis can pass them. 2nd round against Memphis?

We're also just two games behind Memphis in the loss column. How crazy would it be if we ended up with two seed.

I would love a first round matchup against the mavs and round 2 vs memphis.
T-wolves are actually looking a little scary. I would probably rather play the mavs than them.

As much as Gobert deserves it there is no chance he wins DPOY even if Draymond doesnt play again. I think he will come in 3rd or 4th in voting. Our record isnt good and voters are worn out with him and lets not talk about falling apart in the playoffs where most people incorrectly blamed Gobert for that, even Jazz fans.

Giannis, Jaren Jackson, Bridges, or maybe Embiid will all beat him out.

I hope I wrong though because he is definitely without a doubt the best defensive player in the NBA by a decent margin.

I guess its possible if we go on a huge win streak to end the season and our defense is a big part of that.

if he can learn a single offensive move(a baby hook or midrange jumpshot, floater) he can win Most Improved Player award and jazz could be championship bound. but I guess it's wishful thinking

Look guys it’s the hope that kills us. Every time we go on a hot streak we start getting a little too excited… when we lose 4 straight I blame all of you because of your optimism.

Wolves might be my #1preferred matchup besides Lakers or New Orleans or some 9-12 team. Towns just isn't that guy, imo. Maybe Anthony Edwards is, but at this point in his career Mitchell is much better than him. I think it would be a gentleman's sweep like last year's Memphis series. The jazz have an answer for everything the Wolves have, and they don't have the personnel to make Rudy ineffective and kill our guards on the perimeter. We want a matchup where Rudy can be as effective as possible and he would be very effective in that series, no matter how much Edwards would deny it.

Mavs/Wolves first round and Memphis second round would probably be the ideal seeding. Actually, I have this feeling we'd rather play Golden State over Memphis, but that might be overly-reactionary on my part. But this Memphis team is serious, not the same team we beat last year. Jazz would have to go in prepared for war. I'm afraid our guys would get pushed around.

Still, the only teams I really don't want to see until we have to are Phoenix and the Clippers. Any matchup that isn't them I'll feel decent about. Clippers live rent free in our guys's heads. I think that game six loss was one of the worst meltdowns in modern NBA history. It might be the worst loss in franchise history, honestly. It's got to be up there, especially if you think our championship window was just last year, and I have a fear it might've been--if we had won game six we would have won the series. We would have had a chance against Phoenix, and could have beaten the Bucks. We had a massive lead. And then the meltdown happened. And i'm not sure the Jazz will have a pathway of winnable matchups like that this year. I just want nothing to do with them. They were designed in a lab to kill the Jazz, have multiple guys who are our kryptonite. Keep them far away from me.

And Phoenix is far and away the best team in the league. All the games would be close in the fourth quarter, but I think Phoenix has a gear the Jazz don't have. It'll be a rough, nerve-wracking, and possibly frustrating series if it comes to that. Chris Paul and Booker would be working the refs in ways we can not yet imagine. Hope we can save that mess for the Conference Finals.

So, the Jazz start almost every game by getting behind several points in the first 5 minutes, and end almost every game by giving up big leads in the last five minutes, and yet somehow the lineup that does both of those things is +9 on the season. Seems like perhaps that lineup does better at other points in the game and maybe shouldn’t be the starting and ending lineup…

Crazy thing is, Rudy Gobert has been negative in plus/minus in 7 of his last 9 games…
The last 4 have been
-27
-5
-15
And -12 tonight

While Whiteside was positive in 8 of his last 9…

+20

Donovan positive in 7 of last 9

I wouldn't read too much into it. I think it's more a fluke than anything else.

I would guess it's because Mike hadn't been shooting well and that end of the first quarter lineup with Gay not shooting well and Forrest and Gobert is pretty rough offensively.

I’m not going to ignore it. Rudy admitted that he wasn’t 100% after the Lakers game. I’m curious where he is at right now. Maybe he’s still recovering, but I doubt it after the way he handled Dallas (his fourth quarter was a masterpiece.)

I was really discouraged to see how easily the Rockets repeated what the Clippers did last year (I only watched the 4th quarter and overtime.) This is the Teams/lineups fault, not Rudy’s, but Rudy deserves some of the blame. Rudy was indecisive at times and then forgot what he was doing on the last play of the game and dropped to protect the rim during the picknpop, allowing Child’s to get a shot off.

20 games to figure it out, or sure they are going to do it.

Actually I put that last play on the coaching staff. They still haven't figured out or taught or drilled it enough, how to switch effectively on smaller lineups. They just cannot crack that nut. So it ends up being up to Gobert which threat to cover since the coaching staff gives us no real defensive organization in those situations, and no one else can stay in front of anyone, or even bother them a little bit. Our group of dudes under 6'5" and slow of foot on the defensive end will always struggle against a bigger more athletic "small" lineup, meaning if you can field 5 guys that all play on the perimeter and are capable of slashing or passing even a little bit, we are cooked. It is what it is. And we will continue to see Gobert being pulled in 3 different directions because no one else can do anything to bother bigger players at the rim, and they can't switch on the perimeter well enough to keep Gobert near the basket. Sadly, our system has been fully decoded and any strong team with the personnel to do it, can unravel us just like that. In lots of ways, we just got lucky they made some real mistakes and missed some shots down the stretch in the Houston game, because they had us figured out, and we were not really forcing them into anything defensively, other than maybe a steal and one 24 second violation. Otherwise, they just missed open shots and threw the ball away a couple time. Sink even 2 or 3 of those 3s in OT like they were the rest of the game and we lose. And once we are figured out, well that's it, we are done. We don't have anything else. We have this hugely complicated and complex offensive machine, but when they understand how to keep us from using it, then we have nothing to fall back on. Not a thing.

And that is on the coaching staff, primarily, imho.

Im not feeling good about this team after tonight lol. Worst game of the season
