Following 2016 potential draftees

Let's also not forget he played his entire sophomore year at 19. He's got a lot of growth left, and has already shown a lot of improvement.

You act like he is some super young sophomore. We was born in March. Most people turn 20 during their Sophomore year in college. It's not like he is Damian Jones who played his entire junior year at 20 and is still 20.

I think Baldwin has some similarity to a young DWill coming out of Illinois. Has similar strengths and weaknesses. Keep in mind that DWill played SG mostly his sophomore year next to Dee Brown and had a lot to prove as a pro. Whether Baldwin has that kind of drive and ability to expand his game remains to be seen, but he might. I have no idea what kind of defensive player he'll be. But I'm seeing some of the same toughness and attitude, especially driving to the rim. Had no idea he couldn't finish inside though. Is that really the case?

Yes, he was in the 9th percentile in finishing. He is awful getting into the paint also. He doesnt have a NBA PG level handle at all (he has no dribble moves other than a high crossover). Yes, he scored a 38'' vertical in the combine but he doesnt use his athletic ability well in traffic at all.

38'' vertical with a near 7' wingspan at the PG position and he is one of the worst finishers in college? That should raise some question marks about his feel for scoring in a major way.

Glass Half Full: He has a lot of room for improvement

Glass Half Empty: He has a poor feel for scoring and handling the basketball and will never develop into a playmaking PG. His potential will entirely revolve around his spot-up game and committing to defense.

Either way, saying his floor is George Hill is a terrible over-hyping of whatever he is.

The general consensus seems to be that the following 10 players should all be off the board at #12 ----

Simmons
Ingram
Murray
Bender
Dunn
Hield
Ellenson
Poeltl
Brown
Chriss

If any of these drop to 11 or 12, my guess is that Jaylen Brown gets stuck with the tweener label and slips a few spots.

If the Jazz can't move up at all, they're looking at Deytona Davis, Malachi Richardson, Timothe Luwawu, Furkan Korkmaz or rolling the dice on Thon Maker or Skal Labissiere.

Anyone else you guys think is in play at 12--Baldwin, Prince, etc.?

Demetrius Jackson vs Wade Baldwin

I think Jackson is the better player, but I think Baldwin would be a better fit on Utah.

About Deytona Davis from Michigan State:

-- 6'11", 237 lbs with a 9'0.5" standing reach
-- 19 yrs. old, won't turn 20 until December
-- Shot 60% from the field on 6 attempts per game, mostly in and around the paint
-- Low foul rate, low turn-over rate
-- Posted almost identical block per game (1.8) compared to Karl Towns (1.7) in 13 fewer minutes per game
-- A 60% foul shooter as a freshman

Going back to his high school highlights, he mostly ran down the middle of the floor and dunked the ball without much resistance. But he shows an ability to make mid-range jumpers, the occasional 3-pt shot and whip passes with fairly good court vision.

The key for Davis will be adding strength and athleticism and boosting his motor. If he can do that, he could be a beast with more scoring ability than either Gobert or Favors currently have. His college rebounding numbers look mediocre at 5.5 per game in 19 minutes, though Per 36 this translates to 10. So the question is -- how athletic is he and how hard does he work on defense and on the boards?

When I say his floor is George Hill, what I mean is that worst case scenario, his fully developed self will be George Hill. Not that he'll be George Hill as a rookie.

Yes, he did have a problem finishing. Watching a lot of his tape, I think some of it is because he went soft with a finger roll a lot, he needs to abandon that, learn a floater, and finish harder. Easier said than done of course, but very doable. As for not getting into the lane, I'd have to disagree. He averaged almost 6 FT's a game with a fairly low usage. He had a great FT rate number...all of those are indicative of getting into the lane. He really just needs to fix his handle. It's way too basic, but again, compared to his freshman year, it's a ton better. So why wouldn't we expect him to improve that when he can train full time?

I'm not too worried about him locking in on defense. The pros are a totally different story when it comes to that IMO. It's not like he never did it, just that he lapsed sometimes. Most good defensive prospects have had the same thing said about them.

How can you say how he can be fully developed for a floor? The whole point of a floor is that the player isnt developing and is at his lowest perceived point.

I like davis and think he would be a great back up to gobert and would be a good compliment to lyles.

I still am driving the thong maker train.

Yeah I think the Jazz would like Baldwin better for his ability to guard 2 maybe even 3 positions.
The fact his handles aren't great would be ok with Hayward, Exum, Burks, on the roster. Personally I think
it would be a great fit

The Jazz need to draft whomever is most likely to put up 30 pts on a given night. We have plenty of secondary scorers, but need an alpha.
Agreed 100%

I think I'm explaining it poorly. I just can't think of how to explain it better.

It's not hard to understand what you're saying... When he's all grow'd up in the NBA he will at least be as good as George hill is.

I watched his workout on DX today and while a guy dunking in an open gym shouldn't change your opinion of the guy I just noticed how big he was... Mix in the fact that he was a productive player at a young age and seems like a smart mature kid and I like his prospects as a player. I could see a team like Sacramento picking him... They have a need and I think he could be a rotation player by mid season... He's already physically developed.

There are a handful of guys I really like in our range and he's certainly one of them.
