Wow.. u hate Rick Barnes as much as I do.
Honestly i just dont think that hes a top 5 guy in this class, maybe its just a hunch, ive seen the highlights of him blocking Okafor and Cliff Alexander, its all very impressive, as is his jumpshot.
my issue is the way he moves, maybe its a formation of someone pointing it out to me, then watching a bad batch of footage right away and getting confirmation bias. but theirs just something mechanical about the way he moves that i dont like, it kind of reminds me of something youd see from a weaker euro bigman prospect.
now he jumps very well, and he moves his hands and arms quickly in a defensive stance and going for blocks, looks to have great hand eye coordination, and he can turn quickly, but other than in those type of situations i think moves like a big whos feet are too big for his body, and might not have the best hips.
alot of times you will see him take one or 2 tiny steps to start running, or he does this thing where it almost looks more like he starts his running by skipping. perhaps im being too critical, i dont think its a "red flag" just something im going to be watching closely next year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_UFCTdo8I8 - at about 2:20 is a prime example of what im talking about with his feet/ starting his movement
in the few minutes he played in the hoops summit, what im talking about was on full display and he ended up hurting himself
i forgot what exactly he did, but i was in a thread on another site chatting with AAU junkies that genuinely know way more than me during the Hoops summit, after he did something akward there was a few posts about it, one was "Turner moves like hes got rigamortis" he got injured not too far after that play and i remember there was a good bit of posters chiming in and piling on about it.
like i said i dont think its a redflag, and i dont think hes a bad player or project at all. Im all for letting the kids in the draft after highschool, but this is one of the few times where im happy ive got at least a year to watch something, id also say Turner compares pretty well to bigs in the 2014 class, but put him up against Thon Maker, Stone, Giles, Zimmerman and i think the contrast in fluidity is very apparent.
