Following potential 2017 draftees...

Hey do you guys remember a player Cy was praising a couple of years ago? He's like a PF, I don't remember from what school, I thought it was Indiana but could be wrong (uniform had white/red IIRC), he had an African name, similar to Onuoku, or something Seemed like a versatile player, can rebound, score.


I brought it up cos I thought he was going to declare for a draft but then decided to stay 1 more year, and then I hadn't heard about him since.


Anyone know who he might be?

Same applies for Phoenix, if they trade away Bledsoe(fingers crossed that he finally has a season without a part of his meniscus getting removed)
Don't think he makes sense for New Orleans and the Wolves.
Perfect fit for the Bucks.
The Knicks, Mavs and Sacto have no young talent in their backcourt whatsoever, so everything makes sense for them.
With the Celtics, I think if the Nets pick gives em Fultz, they should just trade everything away for future picks. I don't see how Thomas can ever be part of a good playoff team without a rim protection behemoth cleaning up for him. Horford is good, but he can't compensate Thomas's defensive deficits. They just had too many weird selections in the past years. Backcourt of Thomas, Smart, Bradley, Crowder and Brown is weird.

Malik Monk (and Aaron Holiday in the 2nd) is definitely a jackpot scenario for the Knicks, I'm conviced he'd be a catalyst for a big uptick in the teams play..

If somehow they land Monk they should look to sign Jrue Holiday to run point.. That's how I'd look to turn them around quickly.. The defense is so ****ing broken its not a 1 year fix so just upgrade the offense and roll with the punches.

Monk would provide the NY media with ample smoke to blow up the asses of knicks fans, he'd be a big deal here for sure and forever linked with Porzingis.

I have 0 trust in the Knicks organization. But I am more interested at what spot you wanna draft Monk. DX has him at 9, which seems a bit low considering how good he's at shooting.

Chinanu Onuaku, was a Sophomore for Louisville (red jersey's) last year and got drafted 37th in 2016 to the Rockets. Not sure if Cy was a fan tho.

I mean how many truly undersized SG's have you seen better than Monk at 18 years old? I've been asking myself that question for years now because he was extraordinarily athletic (obvious 40"+ vertical) at an early age..

I posted a video of him here in 2014 (before the 59pt game) saying "he's gotta have a 40+ vertical already, I think he's the best athlete at SG I've seen since Zach LaVine"

When I start to think about the top-10 undersized SG's in the last 15 drafts, and there's been more than many would expect - Jerryd Bayless,Randy Foye, Bradley Beal + Oladipo +(who really aren't all that undersized, but that was always the chatter), CJ McCollum, Eric Gordon, (Acie Law 11th), Ben Gordon, Dajuan Wagner. I think Monk compares favorably to all of em. Throw in Monta too who was one of the prospects that peaked my interests in this draft ****, I did research on him before that draft and was convinced he was gonna go high and he fell to the 2nd rd.

JJ has reclaimed the 2 spot with his recent 3pt shooting spurt.

3 Ball or DS4 are likely candidates. Monk could be in play tho.

Jayson Tatum dribbles the ball off his feet in crunchtime. Malik Monk has ice running thru his veins -- DX is reaching with Tatum at 5 no doubt.

Maybe the idea behind the wings is that the SF/PF position is so thin in the league and having one of the best SFs is usually an indicator of a contender.
I feel you about the undersized guys who got good stats and found a role. An aspect to consider though is that switching defensively and scrambling in transition are very important traits in the playoffs. Having 2 small guys in the backcourt putts constraints on these concepts. If you have Danny Green as your 2 guard, he can match up against a 1 and a 3 easily for a couple possessions. If you have two 6'3 and below "midgets" on the court crossmatching and closing out/contesting shooters is quite a bit harder. Forcing mismatches in those situations is also more punishing as help/double teams are easier to outplay. I think the cleanest role for a guy like Monk is having a taller main playmaker elsewhere on the court and him pressuring PGs. Another cool side effect is that other PGs may have less experience guarding guys that serve as secondary playmakers and play off the ball - getting caught napping is a common PG desease on defense.
I think Eric Gordon pre injuries is a fair comparison for Monk, don't you?

This is why ultimately Philly is the ideal landing spot for him, Ben Simmons facilitates from the forward spot and with Embiid there's a very healthy pick your poison inside/outside spacing dynamic.

Monk really does remind me of a smaller Zach LaVine just a more advanced/polished version. He's got the sharpness of Lou Williams, he certainly explodes to the rim with at-least the force of a pre-injury Eric Gordon.

He's like a lot of those top-10 pick guards I listed but better, I still see some shades of Jerryd Bayless.. You could say he's like Monta with a much better outside shot (and overall demeanor)..
 
6'10" 4* Fr. at Syracuse Taurean Thompson is a legit sleeper/player to watch. Defenitely an eventual NBA player. Turns 20 in a few months

16 of his career high 18 came in the 2nd half vs Wake about 2 weeks ago.
 
For the heck of it I checked out all the past NBADRAFT.NET past drafts to see which of our first-round picks they correctly predicted in their mocks (starting in 1999). Here's a list of the correct picks:
