For People Who Think Hayward's Decision was Predetermined

I don't understand, it sounds like a real big thing. But it is mentioned casually in passing while talking about something else...
I mean, this was when Utah made Hayward go out and find a deal because they wouldnt give him the max. I dont get why it's a big deal

The Celtics were concerned about trading for a guy like George or Butler at least partially out of fear of not landing Hayward.

Wow i didn't read that at all. I got that opposite that they figured Hayward was a forgone conclusion and they wanted to make sure that they got a guy who would mess with him.

After the way everything has played out, you'd have to be a moron to still believe Haywood didn't have his mind made up long before the offseason.

But who really cares at this point? Dude got his comeuppance with a busted foot in his first game away from Utah. Meanwhile, Utah found a player to replace him who is a MUCH better closer with an ability to win under pressure that Haywood will never have.

GREAT ****ing season for the Utah Jazz, and I for one, am grateful that Donovan Mitchell was able to have the rookie season he deserved, which couldn't have happened with Haydouche still on the team.

Players will replace them. It's not like they didnt have players ready for the opportunity to fill their shoes.

Jaylen Brown is ready to play a larger role. Terry Rozier is ready to play a larger role. Marcus Smart also. Plus they added Jayson Tatum.

And it really is simple. They added more talent. Their ceiling as a franchise is now higher than it was previously. Could there be some learning curve moments? Sure, but I think they are clearly a better team. Brad Stevens and his system really helped make some of these guys. He is probably going to do it again since he still has a top tier core to build around.

But I get it, people are bitter Hayward left and dont want to extend any credit to Boston as a franchise or their coach and his ability to make players better.
Thought this post deserved to seen again.

Its sucked to lose Hayward from a talent stand point, but it was good that we did lose him from a salary stand point. Hayward was a good player, but you dont want to be paying a guy of his caliber the most on your team. I honestly did not care that we lost him. That salary issue was my first thought. Rudy was and still is the biggest reason why this is a good team. I thought we would still be good without Hayward. Donovan is just icing on the cake

So who cares. Now Boston has to deal with the fact they are hampered by his salary.

Ainge will trade him, it will be hilarious.

Only reason he wont is that it will make it difficult to recruit other free agents. Tatum will be the better player within two years.

Nailed it. I THink both Tatum and Brown may have a potentially higher ceiling than Gordouche and make him redundant eventually. But Ainge did talk about feeling obliged to the guys that had elected to sign as free agents there

Nah the tin man will have another year, then be traded, he won't play out that contract if Ainge can move move him.

Ya, trading him so soon is a bad look, but give it a couple years and it wont be a big deal. But it might be hard too. With all that talent its going to be hard for Hayward to put up big numbers. Couple that with the fact that he had his big injury. That might really hurt his production, or it just looks like its the problem. He will be making way too much for any team to want to trade for him. In fact Id bet that by the last couple years of his contract he will be used as a salary dump. He will be older and I bet his game doesnt age well. He was maxing out his athleticism and he needed every bit of it to be good. This is really his last year of peak athleticism and he is starting off on a bad wheel.

Yup all correct, sad bit is Boston still has shed loads of talent so will be successful anyway. As we've all said moving that contract will not be easy.

Boston and Golden State are so damn talented its scary. I'm all about solutions but they are so elite top heavy (GS) and have layers of quality players (Boston).

We can beat them, but we have to make perfect decisions from a FO standpoint. That and stay healthy....

Boston does have players for days it seems and a brilliant coach (but not apparently according to all the other coaches, COY lulz). However, Hayward needs to come back healthy or else he could become Grant Hill part 2 and end up traded to New Orleans for DeMarcus Cousins and trying to figure out what the hell happened.

Jazz can only control who they bring in and what they do with them. I'm trying to do the same...

You are assuming that the Pacers and Bulls wanted IT. I doubt it.
IT was never the main piece, the pick was.

I guess could argue, especially now, that Oladipo and Sabonis > Cleveland pick (though who knows what happens tomorrow), but at the time the pick seemed way better. I'd still argue the pick > LaVine/Dunn too.

the hard part for me was that Chris Paul showed a little respect for the clips and got a SnT done. Hayward could have said something similar and just got Hayward for Crowder and they could still have Avery Bradley on the team.

Hi, Danny, I'm Gordon, I'll only join the Celtics if you do a SNT with Crowder. I know this may not be what is in the Celtic's best interest, but sorry, those are my terms. I' m willing to jeopardize the opportunity to play for my chosen team in order to respect the Jazz. Take it or leave it.

Please join us in the real world.

The CP3 situation was completely different. If the SNT was not in the interest of both teams, CP3 could not have made it happen, and it certainly had nothing to do with how much he respected the Clippers.

You think the Celtics do the deal without unloading IT? I think they wanted to get that era behind them and avoid major issues when IT's health recovered. I could be wrong, but I think this was important to Ainge. They would have had to give up someone else to match salaries, no?
