For those of you who don't like Jimmer...

That stuff Jeff Hornacek used to do for the Jazz -- spreading the floor, hitting open shots, feeding the post, taking a few dribbles into the lane, finishing layups when he's open, and throwing the occasional long pass -- Jimmer can do all that. As a rookie. Jimmer is a guy who would be 3rd or 4th option playing off of guys like Jefferson, Favors and AK (and Derrick Williams if we're lucky).

The issue I have is that Hayward can probably do most of that too, plus grab a few rebounds and not be such a liability on defense. So I'm not sure if Jimmer would be able to take time from Hayward, Miles or Harris, even though Jimmer is a threat to go off for 30 pts. on any given night. Jimmer would really be taking time from Watson and Raja, more of a 7th or 8th man.

I think KOC could draft Jimmer and sell the pick to the fans, but I'm not sure Jimmer is his first choice for our 2nd pick, especially given that the team really needs another big who can defend and rebound.

Jimmer will still probably go lottery, as there are a lot of teams that could use him.

Which is silly, because zone is generally easier than man for teams to play in college, and he still can't even defend correctly in it.

Don't even get me started on the fact that he has no defensive stance, turns and stares at the play rather than getting in the proper help position or moving to deny passes, and is nearly always slow and late on the zone rotations out to the perimeter. He simply lets people drive right around him, like a high school PG who doesn't understand zone.

On the offensive end, he tries to drive, but often cannot turn the corner to get to the basket even with a screen set for him. Often, he has to pull out for crazy jumpers which will go in or not, depending on the day.

The dude is a Morrison. End of story.

Oh, and, before you call me a Ute homer who needs to go take a Bball 101 class, I couldn't give an *** about college sports. They only get watched when there is no pro sports on. And it is very painful. Almost as painful as watching high school ball.

Oh, by the way, Jimmer isn't a streak shooter, as you're suggesting. Of course, you rarely let facts get in the way of all your *** garbage, I mean opinions.
 
If we could get Jimmer in the 8+ range, go for it. Jimmer>Price>Bell as a mutli guard with Watson(Or maybe, dare I hope, Kyrie Irving) for our bench.
 
I would trade Ronnie Price and CJ Miles for Jimmer.

I'm a BYU fan AND a big CJ-critic and I wouldn't do that trade. Miles is inconsistent, but he can at least bother opposing SG's with his size.

Jimmer is a great college basketball star. I just don't think his game will translate into the NBA. He's a classic "tweener" - too small to be a SG, not quick enough to be a PG. Jimmer is kind of like Mo Williams, but without the quickness. I like Jimmer as a college player and as a person. He seems to be great guy and a fierce competitor. But he's also just 6'2." No question he'd be a top-3 pick if he were 6'4"-6'5." But I don't see him having success against the smaller, quicker PG's like Rose, Westbrook, Paul, etc. At best, Jimmer will be a backup combo guard. Not sure that's the upside you want with a lottery pick. In Hayward's defense, he at least has the size and ball-handling skills to develop into a starter. As a 4-year college player, Jimmer's not going to grow another 3 inches, nor does he have as much upside.

Dwill isn't any quicker than Jimmer is and he has managed to turn into a great player. I'm not saying Jimmer is going to be as good as Dwill but if quickness is the only complaint, he is certainly worth looking at. Guys who can shoot like him don't come around very often and far as defense goes, effort and savvy make up for most physical deficiencies. The Jazz will have to determine if he will put it the work, but if he will, there is no reason he can't be a good NBA player.

CJ never bothers anyone really. His D is almost non-existent. Price and CJ for Jimmer would be a steal.

What do you want to bet the projected draft order changes dozens of times prior to the draft? But seriously, that's a weak argument you should be embarrased of.

I have no real dog in this fight, btw, although I am amused by Jimmer-mania. I will say this, based on what I have seen Jimmer is the kind of player that rightly or wrongly tends to slide throughout the pre-draft workout process. No one is going to get enchanted by his measurements or times. No one is going to talk themselves into the idea that they've seen something that everyone else is missing. Unless he's just insane for the rest of the tournament I'd be very surprised if his slot wasn't downwardly mobile during the pre-draft process.

But what about the counter that NBAdraft.net agrees with the Jimmer lovers? Going at number 10 in their mock draft. Ford has him at 13 or 14 right now, I believe.

I'm sure those rankings will be completely static between now and the draft. No new information will come in.
 
sirkicky makes an astute observation about Fredette's combine measurements et all driving down his draft stock. If the draft were around the same time as the tourney then players with drive and a will to win would get drafted. But come draft day the most recent flavor in GMs mouths is the combine measurements - a day in which freak athleticism will trump college stats.

Jimmer will be there for the Jazz' second lottery pick if they want him.
