What's new

For those of you who don't like Jimmer...

If he keeps blowing teams up in the tourney then he's going top ten. sports are all about what did you do for me today. The tourney will be fresh on their minds.

Hence the reason Hayward gets picked up in the lottery. Sadly, it was the Jazz that got suckered in. If Butler had made it to just the Sweet 16 or even the Elite 8 and then got bounced, Hayward might have been a late 1st round pick.

Ute fans need to put away their pitchforks and torches.

BYU fans need to do the same. I can only speak for myself but this isn't a BYU-Utah issue for me. I'd take a Cougar in a second if I felt he was going to help the Jazz take it to the next level. I just don't think he is. There's also a few BYU fans on this site that feel the same way.

Yeah, the scouts and GM's aren't always right (to say the least), but it is what it is. Jimmer may very well end up top 10 and saying otherwise is pure speculation.

On Hayward: There's what, one or two guys taken below Hayward who means anything at this point? Who were you taking again?

This.

I didn't like the Hayward pick when it first happened. Then, after the emotions calmed, I realized that it really wasn't necessarily a bad pick considering who was still left. And especially looking back now, who else was better? Whiteside? LOL....

For those wanting to compare Jimmer to Eddie House, isn't that exactly what we lack right now? Someone that can come in, knock down a few treys, and change the momentum of the game? Or are we needing a few more bricks from Raja, CJ, Earl, Price, and Harris?

A lot can change between now and draft day, but I think the 2nd pick being used for Jimmer is exactly what we need (unless there is clearly a better player out there). A guy that can come in, knock down a few treys, solidify the backup PG spot, and provide us with some shooting.

Yeah, I think we're all on the same board. Sorry I missed Drifter's sarcasm.

And if someone does snatch up Fredette before the Jazz pick at 12 there's always Nolan Smith as a fallback. That's pretty sweet. Or maybe one of the euros falls to them. At any rate the Jazz will have a lot of solid players to choose from at 12. It's the 6 pick that I hope move up into the elite range.

more like this, actually

We don't know where he'll go, but pretending he'll be there at 12 is plenty far outside professional opinion at this point.

What?

Chad Ford: Jimmer's not on the top 10 big board, listed as the fourth best PG prospect (18th best overall) projected as a "lottery to mid-first round" pick.

NBADraft.net: Projected 10th selection.

Draftexpress.com: Predicted 17th selection.

Mynbadraft.com: Predicted 13th selection.

These things change quickly and this is hardly final but I think your assertion that it's "plenty far outside professional opinion" to suggest he might not be a top 11 pick is flatly contradicted by those who pass themselves off as having professional opinions.

You have got to be kidding me.

With the benefit of hindsight players who have performed better that were selected after #9 include:

Landry Fields (the consensus steal of the draft)
Ed Davis (solid evidence he will be a big-time rebounder)
Patrick Patterson (extremely efficient)
Gary Neal (undrafted)
Paul George (a person many on the board wanted and someone who is showing real flashes of an ability to rebound from the guard position)

These projections are just that. The scouts know there is plenty of time left and there is no guarantee that Jimmer will be sitting around twiddling his thumbs @ #12. Nobody is saying otherwise, at least none that I've read.

FYI, I don't know much about the first 3 or 4 websites that google pops up, but RSCI average consensus has him currently going 14th. As early as it is, without the tournament finished, pre-draft camps, team visits, or agent signings, these mock drafts aren't guaranteeing you a guy at 14 will be trembling as he's passed up on draft night. If it were a week before the draft then I'd be much more willing to buy into a mock draft putting a guy at 14 as saying he'll be around at 10-12. It won't mean much more than that.

With all that's been said, I still agree with Bentley's comment of being ok with Jimmer @ 12. I think those who support Jimmer are pretty much in line with this, although some would feel less heartburn if the Jazz were to draft him closer to 15 or 16.

Ooh, and thanks for initiating my latest warning.

I read it a couple of times. Sometimes the issue is with the clarity of the writer and not with the audience.

Of course there's no guarantee. There are always reaches. My comment was merely designed to show that #12 is certainly in the realm of possibility based on what we know now.

To be honest I don't even give it that much weight. I would put the potential Jimmer range (based solely on how much these mocks move) anywhere from #3 (Deron was listed at about #11 at this point in the tourney his Junior season) to the mid-second round (where we have seen players free fall to from this position in the past, i.e. Chase Budinger).

The thing about this though is that Jimmer is a known quantity. Those guys are always less sexy picks. Absent BYU ending up in the Final Four with Jimmer guns-a-blazing I don't see a lot of upside in Jimmer's draft stock and a lot of downside. This has nothing to do with his qualities as a player or as a prospect but my perceptions of how these mocks and GM rankings move as we go through the process and what kind of players are favored by that movement.

Ooh, and thanks for initiating my latest warning.

Barking up the wrong tree. Just because I'm the guy who came through and edited posts while they were reported doesn't mean I reported anything or was even aware of the posts prior to their being reported.

Franklin, you're off-base here. #12 is about where most mocks have him going and quite frankly, Jimmer's the type of player imo that'll fall, not rise, once the season ends based on the usual love for measurements, amongst other things, that takes place.

There's no sense debating Jimmer's mock draft position at this point. Scouts absolutely have to see him defend NBA caliber prospects in camps and workouts. That's going to determine where he goes. The Tourney is effectively meaningless for him.

I wasn't picking a fight, only trying to clarify. But thanks for telling me how much I sux at righting.

I see. In that case thanks for editing the post that earned my latest warning.

Off base on what exactly?

I already told you the RSCI average consensus. That's the most reputable source for us commoners at this point (and probably where wannabe draft websites form their opinions from).

I think kicky was referring to the lack of clarity in my own post - not to Franklin. Franklin was merely reacting to my less-than-clear post.

Nah, he has his ego thing to protect and is worried that I'm the best alpha candidate. Ask him, you'll see.

He PM's me pictures like the one below on almost a daily basis with captions like "I know you look like this and I don't, but I'm a lawyer, so neener neener". True story.

Half true. A better example would be like this:

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Jimmer is. You have to see it for yourself.

Use the Jimmer, Luke.

Do not try and bend the Jimmer. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth....there is no Jimmer.

He got a real pretty mouth ain't he? I bet he can squeal like a Jimmer. Weeeeeeee! Weeeeeee!
