David Aldridge: Rockets are telling people they're guaranteed future Lottery pick from Toronto in Lowry deal tho it's unclear how that happens

Also, Adrian Wojnarowski says the Rockets and Raptors are working on something "innovative" in regards to protection on the pick that Houston gets. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

I've thought of an idea that a pick can be protected, but the protection goes away if the 2nd half of the season has less than 40% of the wins as the first half. (tanking)

Batum and the T-Wolves have an offer sheet agreement for 4 years and $45m with bonuses that could make it around $50m. Wolves also reach agreement with Brandon Roy for 2 years, around $10.4m. The signing could be put off to allow the Wolves to make other moves and use the MLE for Roy.

Wow, Brandon Roy is coming back with the Timberwolves. I would´ve never guessed that. I guess Rubio and Love are better recruiters then KG!

Who's rumored to be in the hunt for JR Smith? I think the Mavericks should make a run for him. That way they can have Dirk plus a litany of three point shooters.

Okay there has been some yammering about the Eric Gordon to Suns thingee...

Steve Kyler: "If the team matches an offer sheet and retains their free agent, then for one year they cannot trade him without his consent" about 12 minutes ago

Steve Kyler: "and cannot trade him at all to the team that signed him to an offer sheet. They also can't trade the player in a sign-&-trade transaction" about 11 minutes ago

I didn't know this. Twitter has actually taught me something... who knew?

Nick Young to Philly: 1 year, $6m
Philly also decides to amnesty Elton Brand come July 11. Teams currently under the cap include the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets.

I just hope that someone under the cap snags up Elton Brand before he can sign for the vet minimum for Miami or whatnot.

I'm fairly certain someone will get him before he clears waivers. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if all three of those teams I mentioned put in bids for him.

I'm positive the Mavericks will.

When was the last time the Mavericks were one of the few teams under the cap? I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

Antawn Jamison is in discussions with the Bobcats. The main enticement there is the chance to be with his family during the season. Also, Portland has waived Shawne Williams who came over in the Gerald Wallace trade.

Update on the draft pick the Rockets get for Kyle Lowry: https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-...-houston-rockets-continue-202826985--nba.html

In each of the next 4 years (through 2016), the pick is protected out of the bottom 16. Next year, it will also be top 3 protected. In 2014 and 2015 it will be top-2 protected and in 2016 it will be #1 protected. From reading this, it sounds like if the Raptors somehow manage to get through 2016 without giving Houston the pick, then Houston gets nothing.

I like the innovative protection for HOU actually. They get everything from 4-15, 2-15, and 1-15. When was the last time Toronto made the playoffs 3 years in a row?

1999-00 through 2001-02. The interesting thing is just the huge gap in the ways they can keep their pick. Either be a playoff team or be terrible and have the odds play out, or be bad but not terrible and buck the odds in a big way.
