GAME 1(!): Your UTAH JAZZ hosting OKLAHOBOS -- Wednesday Oct30 7pm MST -- ROOT Sports

Facepalm man! OKC is not a contender without Westbrook. They have never contended without Westbrook. Westbrook is not just a good player. Westbrook is a great player. He is a top-10 NBA player. He is instrumental in what OKC hopes to do in their game plans, in the structure of their team, and in any hopes they have at making it anywhere in the playoffs. Are you kidding (trolling) me? Are you so desperate for silver linings that you're willing to either completely downplay and distort the truth or delude yourself into thinking this way? I don't know why it bugs me so much, other than the fact that is just seems so... dishonest

Edit: I'm not saying it's not cool that we played as close as we did. But why do we have to lie about the quality of team we were playing? Are we so desperate for good feelings and what not. Is it not enough to say we played a decent playoff quality team close? Why must we embellish

Calm down man
We all acknowledge that they are not the same without westbrook.
But the other side of the coin is there as well.... which is that the jazz have basically a whole new team (which is extremely young) and are missing 5 players.

Guaranteed okc was favored in last nights game by a decent amount and the jazz came out and played them close with thier best player going off for 40, our best player having an off night, and the refs against us.

Maybe just let us have our moral victory without bringing up the westbrook thing mmmkay?

That was a much more enjoyable game to watch than most of them last year, despite the loss. No Al-ffense, no Mo-ffense, much more movement and action. Way better.

Don't understand all the batching here about Hayward, the kids really good. Yeah, it would be nice to see him shoot better, but he is in a tough role as the number one scorer. He'll get it figured out. His ability to shoot should the least of our worries. And he does so many other things. This will be the year for him to have the ball a whole lot and make a lot of mistakes while learning. Give him time.

A small point for Corbin: this year it is about minutes for the youngin's. Let 'em play despite foul trouble. Go for 36 minutes per, even if they do foul out.

This is one area I have seen the most improvement from favors. Looks like he has taken a lesson or two from malone. Both bigs could use a real starting pg. Alec looked really bad early but started to hit in the second half. Needs work on his outside shot. Hayward looks like he is jumping higher than before by a good margin. Anyone else think the same? If so it could have altered his shot a bit. our bench is bad. Just some random thoughts.

Haywards posterizing dunk on perkins was off the hook!

Just finished watching via League Pass. I was happy with how we played. There is not a team in the league that has a worse healthy PG situation in the league than us, and we still challenged them. By the way, anyone wishing we would have drafted Michael Carter Williams now? For all we know, Burke could have a better career, but that was quite a showing against the HEAT!

I still think mcw will suck

Some people just have to complain. No matter how many times optimism and hope for the future slaps them in the face.

Positives:

Favors had 5 assists. That is huge.
25 assists
Favors, Kanter and Burks shot 50% or higher
Jefferson continues to be decent
Burks lighting it up with 24 points, 6 rebs, 6 ast,
Hayward (despite all you haters) had 12 points, 4 reb, 5 ast, 3 steals.

Two players capable of stuffing a full stat sheet in Burks and Hayward.

Need to work on TOs, FTs, 3pt % Some of this is due to inexperience and will correct itself over time. Team will improve when Rush, Williams, Evans and Burke come back.

This is the second game (Clips preseason game in CA) where the Jazz have been in it and their inexperince and FTs for the other team were the difference maker.

All in all I am thrilled with the team and what they are showing. Hayward, Kanter, Burks and Favors combined for 65 points, 29 rebs, 17 ast, 4 steals and 3 blocks.

Fantastic signs for the future. How does my Kool-aid taste now?!!?

With Favors' back and foot problems, am I the only one concerned that he played 40+ mins. Although he looked good. I was floored by his passing. Amazing. I'll take 6 TO's right now if the effort to pass is there. Incredible.

Those technical calls on touching the ball are gonna bore some big masses of fans.

Hate this rule.
I would rather have the guy catch the ball and throw it to the ref than let it hit off thier knee or something and go flying out of bounds.
Plus more whistles from the zebras is a bad thing imo

Or fix some habits pretty quick (which is the idea), which will speed the game up.

The problem is that a lot of the tome the player just catches the ball after goimg through the hoop because it was going to hit them anyway.
Now if they to break that habit then a lot of balls are going to hit guys in the shoulder, knee, feet, etc and go even further away from the guy taking the ball out of bounds which will slow teams down even more

Don't call that OKC team contenders, and I won't bring up sans-Westbrook

Yeah cuz all I'm trying to do is **** on people's parade. Not just bring some intellectual honesty to the discussion.

Not me. I love the new rule. This will give the Jazz so many fast break opportunities. Could you imagine how many pts the Nash Suns would have scored had this rule been in place? It gives the offense a chance to run, which will make Utah's home court advantage even bigger.

2) I hate refs who blow their whistle after the ball has hit the rim or backboard. Harris got a weak call that way in the 2nd.

One of the latest calls I have ever seen... the jazz were actually taking the ball up the court after getting the rebound when the whistle blew

Oh spare me. With or without Westbrook the Jazz had no business hanging with OKC. And yet there they were right up till that last 3 point shot missed. Yes they had no Westbrook but they are still clearly a better team. Especially against a young, raw, inexperienced Jazz team missing 4 players of worth (I wont count Biedrins).

If you wanted intellectual honesty you would include a full accoutning of the teams states. Not just harp on this Westbrook thing insesantly.

Let people have their moment. Damn.

This was the first game in a long, long time (maybe ever) where we saw Burks repeatedly penetrating the paint (and splitting screens-- I lost it when I saw that) in a half-court setting. It was honestly sublime, and I really didn't see it coming.

It was awesome, because with each basket he made, you could just tell that his confidence was building. It was a bummer that he turned it over, and missed that floater-- the floater was a wide open look, that woulda brought it to within one.

Ya the floater broke my heart.... it was a great drive and perfect looking shot and just went a little too long

What about when it goes off a guys shoulder or knee?
I think if the ball is going to hit the scorer anyways then I would rather him catch it and throw it to the ref.

I think it is a rule just for having a rule. I do not really think it was a problem.

Did I ever say we were an equal team? Did I ever say that we has business hanging around? You're inventing these statements. I agree with all of that. But the Jazz broadcast was doing it too, calling OKC contenders. Lets be proud of what we did, without overblowing it. It reeks of silver-lining desperation. But keep painting me as the big bad wolf.
