What's new

Game Thread: SAS @ Utah, Fri 7:00 p.m.

Hayward IS NOT a MAX player. He never will be.

MAX is relative. There are all sorts of max players. You have the players like Rose, and Griffin, who were allstars in their first contracts, and Rose was an MVP. These players get a huge amount of money. You also have the option to have a four or five year max player. You have to ask yourself if Hayward will be a top 30 player next year. If he is, then he is a max player. He's going to get $12-$14 million next year, book it! Tonight was a hiccup since he's trying to figure it out. After what I have seen through ten games, he's going to perform very well this year.

Hayward with the terrible shooting night, but was +6 in 43 minutes. That means the Jazz were -15 in the five minutes Hayward was off the floor.

What happened?

Also he kind of has this burden to take shots. I mean, who else is going to take shots on this team? Kanter was playing like a bum tonight, and they were doubling Favors a lot.

If Kanter was playing like a bum what do you call how Hayward played. I can't believe you are rationalizing away how poorly Hayward played simply saying who else is going to take the shots? Come on .. it is hard for Kanter or Favors to get involved in the offense if the PG/SG don't pass the ball around.

Kanter has looked a bit disinterested. Plus he's having a hard time getting rebounds away from Favors.

Because he is not really involved in Offense enough. Kanter is the most efficient scorer and needs more than 12 shots a game to produce high. Kanter is getting better at rebounding with every game he plays. I think when he gets totaly in shape, he will start rebounding on elite level again. His body is not on 100 percent and dude is not aggressive like he was before, maybe due to injury.

I love how quickly a guy can go from 10 assists to being hated for being selfish two nights later

What it means is +/- is not a reliable stat. Jazz lost because they (mostly hayward) couldn't make shots down the stretch and Parker once again took over the game.

I think the max that Haywards contract can start at next year is like 13.25, with 7.5% raises. So he is going to be a near max player at least, and probably will get a max offer from somewhere with his averages this season. He is a good player, just had a bad night.

Contrast Jefferson, who also played 43 minutes. He was -15 during the time he was on the floor. That means Jazz were +6 in the five minutes he was on the bench.

When you play well you get praise when you don't you get criticism. That is the life of an NBA player. It isn't like Hayward doesn't deserve the criticism he is getting tonight.

well, why don't you tell me who is going to take shots? Kanter was just standing around, and Favors was being doubled. So how the hell is Hayward supposed to get them the ball? You either take a semi decent shot, or pass it and get a turnover on a lot of plays.

The Jazz should trade Hayward if he wants 13.25 million contract. I am not saying he asked for that amount but he is not worth that amount.

Hayward is a good player, but he is not worth the max neither worth being a 1rst option. The best Jazz can do is trading him, when his value is high. We could get a superior player + Wiggins and then BANG.

Why did Corbin close out the game with Lucas, and we did we quit running? By all means, Ty, let's stop doing what worked for 3 quarters plus.

Did you watch Parker? He breaks down his guy and gets his teammates easy shots. Maybe Kanter was standing around because he got tired running up and down the court watching Gordon "AI" Hayward miss shot after shot.

With Favors looking like he is a legitimate post up option, it might be time to have Kanter start stretching the floor a little more. The guy can hit the mid range shot and shoots 90% free throws lets test that out a little further.

True. He has a consistent mid-range game and the Jazz are not running enough plays for him. He could shoot a few jumpers, run some pick n' pop and space the floor a bit for Favors

Hayward is not a point guard. Parker is. That is Parker's job to break down the defense. Whatever though, I am done listening to this guy who is judging the whole season on one game.

Hah, I'm starting to notice this, but whenever Burks goes away from a screen he gets benched.

I pre-answered your question.

Not sure why Garrette didnt play. Probably because he was being selfish today.
