Spirit, Honor, Tradition!
I'd like to honor that girls spirit and fill her with tradition! (Girl in the front)
Receiver: Pretty even here but have to give the nod to byu because of Hoffman (love dres though). Hoffman is set to shatter every receiving record in byu history, so nuff said.
Fishonjazz breakdown of tomorrows game! (as unbiased as possible, keeping in mind that I am more familiar with byu's personell than utahs... All stats off the top of my head, no google.)
Quarterback: Tayson hill is a beast running the football, but dreadful passing the ball...... Travis Wilson is also a beast running the ball and has shown that he is pretty damn good passer.
Edge: Utah.
Running back: Williams had like 130 yards in game 1 and 180 in game two with 30+ carries in each (again, off the top of my head, so I could be wrong) phenomenal numbers..... Utah started the season with York as the feature back and have since tinkered a bit and seem to have settled on james poole. Poole is fast and tough and figures to be a good back for the utes.... But Williams has been Dominant
Edge: BYU
Receiver: Pretty even here but have to give the nod to byu because of Hoffman (love dres though). Hoffman is set to shatter every receiving record in byu history, so nuff said. (I really liked Kenneth scott and if he hadn't have gotten injured it might have evened things out.
Edge: BYU
Tight end: This is not even close. Murphy and tonga in a landslide..... Im a huge fan of murphy and believe he will be playing on sundays.
Edge: Utah
Offensive line: One of the toughest to judge. Byu O-line in week was awful, but week two they were amazing due to some lineup changes. Utahs O-line was supposed to be a huge strength before the season started, but have had their ups and downs. I give this one to Utah (just barely) mostly based on how the O-lines compare "on paper"
Edge: Utah
D-line: For byu Kafusi has been Great and manumanuealla (?) has been a star in the making. For Utah orchard looks like another stud pass rusher (whats new), Palapoi looks very good and hemuli is ok.
Edge: Even (I think both lines are quite good and its too tough to call.
Linebacker: For Utah Fehoko has been good and riley is all over the place making plays. Byu's success is dictated by this position (imo) and for good reason. Van noy is the best player on byu (and probably Utah too), Fua looks like he could end up being just as good as van noy (might be a reach, but im going off his potential) and has been in the backfield all most as much as van noy. Unga has done his job in the middle perfectly and Hadley is one of the best stripper tippers the team has ever seen.
Edge: BYU
Defensive backs: Both teams DB's are not very good on paper and utahs have struggled on the field. Byu's DB's have not really been challenged much but got beat badly a couple of times against texas. I give an edge to Utah mostly based on their history at the position.
Edge: Utah
Safeties: For Utah eric rowe is pretty good and experienced and so is Daniel Sorenson for byu. I think Sorenson is the better of the two, but that is mostly just homerism talking. Each teams other safety is just window dressing.
Edge: Even (wanted to say byu but I said I would try not to be biased)
Special teams: Both teams special teams have been pleasant surprises. Utahs kicker (I forget his name) has been a well documented Cinderella type story and looks like he has been kicking field goals in college for 4 years.
For byu Sorensen is finally living up to the hype when he came out of brighton high. 7 for 7 on field goals for the year. Utah had the nice onsides kick too. I cant recall either team having any real issues in special teams other than byu's punter bobbling a snap and having a punt blocked (although that was at the height of a damn monsoon)
Edge: Even
GAME PREDICTION: Byu scores 3 touchdowns and kicks 2 field goals. Utah scores 2 touchdowns and kicks 2 field goals. Final score.... 27-20 BYU.
I think the game will have a lot of punts and feature mostly good defense but the fast pace of byu will inflate the scoring a little. Van noy will make at least one big play that causes a turnover
On on a more serious note, those of you that are coming to LProvo probably should tack at least 15 minutes onto what you might normally if you're planning driving down close to gametime. In city traffic has been the worst I've ever seen it this week. They've closed off main roads. Other main roads are at 1 lane right now. It's a total mess. Driving in Salt Lake today actually felt like a nice break, and considering there are no 1-15 exits that are particularly close to the stadium.....it could be scary Saturday.
OH MY GOSH...
This is so true. Soooooooo true.
Thanks Duck for pointing this out.
AVOID AVOID AVOID Provo Center and Orem's Univ Parkway. OMG, these streets make the 405 in LA look like a cakewalk. It literally took me 45 mins to go from the top of the hill on University Parkway to get onto I-15. A distance of maybe 1 mile.
If I were you folks, I'd hit up Orem's 800 N exit and go directly east on it until you hit the Provo/Heber interchange at the mouth of Provo canyon. Then, stay right and go south towards the stadium. Last resort would be to hit up Orem's Center Street exit. But that's really pushing it. University Parkway? Ha, forget about it.
IMO, the best way to get to the stadium is to go as far east as you can and then go south past the front of Timpview High School. You can do this via Orem's 800 N exit or Center Street. Right before the stadium is a elementary school where you can park for free. Then, you walk 5-7 mins to the stadium. Anyone else agree with this? Or know a better route?
If you need any help or directions just send me a message.
I want all of you lil brother fans to witness this beatdown.
If any of you find yourselves south of Orem Center Street Exit... You're screwed... Plan on missing at least half the game (unless) you are 2-3 hours prior to the kickoff. Utah County is a mess right now with all the construction.
Hoffman is a helluva receiver. So explain to me why he has only 2 catches, total, so far. Really, I don't know, so if there is a reasonable explanation beyond "Hill can't throw", I'm eager to listen.
Hill looked like Barry Sanders against Texas, but I haven't seen much to convince me he can throw the ball. This pleases me because Utah's secondary is really bad.
Anyway, I guess my point being, I could see Hoffman's vast talent being largely wasted this year, if Hill doesn't figure out how to throw.
This is very easy to answer.
Game 1 hoffman didn't play due to a hamstring injury.
Game 2 byu ran for about 1, 000, 000 yards and didn't pass the ball.
Game 3 was a bye so he had zero catches
My back up back up plan is to quit the board for a couple months when I get my feel bads hurt by some of the "sensitive types".
