Game Thread: Utah @ BYU, Sat. 9/21 8:15pm MT, ESPN2

Gordon Monson is a moran. He's always been about him, and about some freakish sort of "shock" journalism. He is constantly trying to take the contrarian road in order to feel like he's cutting edge in his opinions. Most of the time his takes are idiotic and way off base, but he's only looking for a reaction. I trust almost nothing he writes or says, and have stopped reading his crap and listening to the radio if he's on. He tries so hard to be funny when he's not.

Using him to backup up your point is pretty weak imo. I would say the same thing if he wrote something to support a point I back. Just don't like the dude.
Finally, a post from a BYU fan that I agree with. It's a miracle!

BTW the announced attendance for the game at lavell edwards staduim friday night was 58,763.

Damn I should have took the over on uglis over under of 15, 000

Gordon Monson is one of the few writers in the area not afraid to call a spade a spade. He's the opposite end of the spectrum to Locke who kisses everyones asses on his way to where ever he wants to be.
.
You don't like this article please point out anything in it that is false. It's pretty much what Ute fans have said coming from somebody who is critical of the Utes often enough. Unlike the BYU fan writer of the original article Monson actually is mostly unbiased.

Announced attendence doesnt equal gate attendance.

Only the very upper portions were empty. Very accurate that day.

Now, if you want to see what you said in action, Utah basketball is probably the best example of that going. There are more rats and bats in there than people, yet they always claim thousands. The WUSS is like 20 people strong in there.

On more important college football news, the witch is dead:

USC's back....starting next year.

Nope. Jim Mora Jr. and UCLA have seized control of the hearts and minds of that city and USC's sanctions a long with Kiffen blundering everything have put the Bruins firmly in the driver's seat in regards to recruiting.

It's gonna be a nasty few years for fickle fans such as yourself that throw your loyalties behind either BYU or USC depending on who's playing better. What to do when they both suck?

Storied programs don't lose their luster based on a few good years from a cross town rival. Just like storied programs aren't storied because they have a good couple of years. I know you don't understand that particularly well because Utah ran off a few good years and you still seem to buy into that reality, but now that they are trending back towards the mean of the past, I suspect reality will hit you soon enough. Good luck against UCLA, you'll need it. USC's recruiting has not taken a huge hit and the main hurdle there is scholarship limitations due to sanctions. The penalty years are closing down. They can actually hire who they want now. They've been telling boosters Kiffin was just the garbage man for years. And be the way they just tossed him to the wind despite him having a decent win record, tells us that that was 100% truth.

And your hypothetical fickleness example has already been tested. BYU and USC have been bad together for the last two years. Still here. Still telling you that both their futures are very bright.

And still alternating avatars based on who wins the week prior. I sure wish I had 2 "favorite" teams.

Not sure why I'm posting this and keeping this thread alive when it has been reduced to arguing about this for the last few pages, but hey the rivalry makes everybody do stupid things.

I know a few Ute fans (who are LDS) that go to the Jail (in Spanish Fork) and help out, read lessons and what not and they tell me how grateful some of the inmates are for them taking the time to reach out to those who want it.

I took it that the argument was that prisoners that are in prison for MUCH MUCH less than Spence's transgressions would some how sympathize for something that many people do every day and wouldn't be any consequences if it wasn't for the school he chose to go to. As a matter a fact I willing to bet almost all of them wish they could've joined him, which is go to Vegas, drink, hit the strip clubs and have someone pay a lady for their "services".

It is good for Spence to go and look what could be in his future if he went all PAC MAN Jones or <insert many NFL players name here> so it helped him and he intern helped them by spreading the word to those who may want to listen.

There have been many a good story about Ute players (both football and basketball) just usually it is overcoming adversity of their upbringing or a death of a family member or sibling or teammate, or a serious life threatening illness of a child or one they had or have themselves.

BYU is not the only option out there. If you don't like the rules go somewhere else. I would never attend BYU even if they would have me(they most certainly would not).

Don't give me that storm crap you just wanted to spend the night with your lady friend. If you had been on the other side of price canyon when the storm hit you would have drove through it to see her.

Actually they closed the canyon I couldn't get through even if I wanted to.

as far as "other options" no there really isn't in Utah county. Most of the apartment complexes are BYU approved (particularly if they are in any of the convenient parts of town.) or you have to spend quite a bit more to get "non byu approved" housing. It's actually pretty gross.

Like I said, I personally don't care, she was planning on moving out at the end of month anyways (which was like a week later.)

And ask anyone, they would rather spend the night with their significant other than be alone.

BS There is a motel 6 off the Novell exit. You could have got a room there for like $40.

Oh my gosh...

Riley Nelson sucks so bad.

Van Noy makes a heck of a play and Riley returns the favor.

I can't stand watching this Air Force offense.

C'mon bronco! Play Ammon Olsen!

Right because when you are invited to stay the night with someone (regardless of it being BYU approved or not) you're picking a crappy hotel.

You're absolutely right. Could I have gotten a hotel room instead of staying in her apartment? Yes. Would it have mattered either way at that point? No, she was planning on moving out at the end of the month (which was about a week/ 2 weeks out anyways.) Could I have just braved the elements and slept in my car in a parking lot? Of course I could have.

Everyone has a right to make their own choices. If you agree to live in housing that requires conduct rules, you had to face the consequences. She didn't get kicked out. Her roommates were very judgmental and closed minded to the idea of breaking that rule. We have since moved in together and became happily married and together ever since. Worked out for me/her and the BYU housing authority.
