I don't view the trade for Hill as a fail.

I mean, if Hill doesn't come, Utah doesn't do well as a team, and there's no chance that Hayward stays. The draft last year was low on talent, so I'm not too bothered by the trade even if Hill leaves. Have to make moves to try to keep your star players.
I agree. Last years team gave us hope and showed our guys we can compete. If we lose Hill and Hayward, we still won a series, broke up the Clippers and gave Gobert, Hood, Exum and the guys a hunger for more.

We needed a year like last year even if we go back to fringe playoff for a year or two. Hayward and Hill will be the scapegoats if they leave. DL did what he could.

Nobody is perfect at making draft picks. Nobody.

I am not high on DL.

Burke
Lyles (Gave up on this guy wayyyy too early).

Gone.

Have to be considered failed picks. When you draft well out of the lottery (Gobert and Hood) there is a lot of luck.

Also, if Hill doesn't resign - that is a fail as well!

If Exum busts out - Lindsay busts out.
I think getting joe johnson and boris diaw were good moves.
I think letting someone else max kanter was a good move.

I do still think there's some debate with the Kanter move.

For it to be a good move, he should have moved him sooner, before the public statement from Kanter. Furthermore, if OKC was willing to max him, then doesn't that show that they valued him? They got a player they VALUED at a max contract for 3 awful players and a pick that might be a 1st rounder, but has just as good a shot at being a 2nd rounder. Also, you act like if we kept Kanter we would have had to max him. Clearly we wouldn't have. So really, the difference between us trading him and letting him go for nothing is a potential 1st or 2nd round pick, and hopefully DL nails that pick.

I would call the Kanter trade an average move, at best, when it comes to getting value. Certainly wouldn't call it good. Burke trade up was bad. Gobert was more than excellent. Exum is hopefully good, but so far looks bad.

I like DL, but he's certainly had his fair share of misses.

Vlade had the best draft netting Fox who should have went ahead of Ball, then traded back turning one pick into Justin Jackson and Giles, then had Mason the steal of the draft fall to him

First off, yes Lindsey has had misses. Clearly, Lyles. But Burke - according to reports - may not have been his choice. As for Dante, it's not like there was anyone else drafted in that range that has lit the NBA on fire. Giving up a lottery pick for Hill? Necessary unless the Jazz, for certain, wanted to lose Hayward. There wasn't a competent PG in place. I'm sure DL expected Dante to be where he allegedly is this summer. Shame on Lindsey for not anticipating Exum's injury that set him back!

But I will admit the team SHOULD have had a veteran PG in place even after Dante was drafted. Jazz stuck with Burke too long. Dante was/is a project. Jazz needed a veteran until either of the two showed they could step up.

If you read the whole thread, I'm the one with the post on the Hill trade being great.

Linsley drafted Burke, period. Either he allowed Corbin to make the call, or he made the call, but the responsibility falls on him. I'm not even trashing DL, just pointing out his good picks with his bad. Being objective is good. Try it sometime.

I think if we kept kanter we would have had to max him. It only takes one team to offer him the max. Okc maxed him so I could see them offering him the max at least.

Okc valued him at the max at the time. Doubt they do anymore. How many minutes did he average last year? How many minutes did he average in the playoffs?

I'm happy the jazz traded kanter rather than losing him for nothing or matching a max offer.

DL let Corbin walk which may be the greatest move in franchise history.

A GM doing what anyone with a brain would do is not worthy of praise.

I rate GM's on moves they make that make me say 'Oh this guy knows way more than a group of fans on a message board'

Getting Hood, good ****
Getting Gobert, amazing move
Joe Johnson, awesome
Matching the Hayward offer when it was a legitimate question was very smart

Then there's just doing the obvious. Exum wasn't a reach, there wasn't some amazing player drafted right after him. He just hasn't worked out (yet). He doesn't get points for this, but he doesn't get docked either.

Something like drafting Lyles when everyone at home in their underwear with a beer in hand is screaming for Booker is the worst kind of **** though. I can't stand moves like that.

Trey Burke is... I'm not sure honestly. Kind of felt like fate. We were crazy about him that year, when we made the trade we knew what was happening, and we were super excited. In hindsight it was very unlikely that Burke was ever going to become a good NBA player, but everyone (including the FO?) was on the hype train. I didn't even know the name Giannis Antetokounmpo and if we had traded up and picked him instead of Burke my initial reaction would have been that I hated it. I am a dumb fan who doesn't research these guys. Should Dennis Lindsey be able to tell the difference between a complete freak of nature athlete and a six foot guard who isn't great at anything? Should he be able to see past the hype and take the guy who could be amazing? Sure. But a bunch of other teams passed on him too.

Overall I'm happy with Lindsey as GM he at least gives me the sense that the organization is well run and has a vision for the future.

Just a side note, remember the tank years? We are a pretty good team now, so tank kind of successful right? All it got us was Burks Exum and Kanter. The players who have brought us into being a playoff contender again have been Gobert (pick in the 20's bought for cash) Hood to a lesser extent, but still way better than those other three (pick in the 20's), and Hayward continuing to develop.

Those tank years were ****. lol

Hood was part of the tank. We got him in the trade from Golden State when we took on their contracts they didnt want.

He was taken in the tank years. But he wasn't a lottery pick or anything. You could've been a successful playoff team and still drafted Rodney Hood.

But I get your point.

1) Why would we have to max him? That makes no sense.

2) In regards to the trade, it's irrelevant how they currently value him. What matters is how they valued him at the time of trade.

Ya, I guess we could lose him for nothing when another team offers him the max. True.
I like that we traded him instead though.
