GSW Draft Pick Watch

Aside from the "Tank Trade"

GS is playing Sacto today. Very important game as Portland and Pheonix could both fall behind GSW today if GS doesn't lose.
Portland is tanking hard. It's very strange, they looked like a top 10 team in the pre season IMO.

They played the Jazz in the preseason. Of course they did.

Also, a "Screw you management" win by the players. Nice to see. Get to 25 wins and it'll be difficult to believe they'll be in top 7.

Unless NJ trades Brooks and an injured Lopez for Howard. That automatically puts NJ a few wins ahead. Howard is lobbying hard to stay in Orlando. And why not? He still has an outside shot at a ring before leaving for Brooklyn and all those endorsement $'s. Plus, NJ would be a helluva team if they could get Howard without giving up Lopez. That's Bynum and Gasol in their prime (or Robinson and Duncan).

Milwaukee should be better. They gave up essentially nothing and are getting Udoh and Ellis. Just have to hope the likes of Detroit, Sacramento, Toronto, etc. will also tank down the stretch.

I just wrote about this, but the short version is this:

Detroit (currently 7th worst with 27 losses) probably finishes with 22-25 wins. Warriors have to finish something like 4-23 to 7-20 just to tie them.
Sacramento (28 losses) finishes with 20-23 wins. Warriors have to finish 2-25 to 5-22.
Toronto (28 losses) and New Jersey (29 losses) probably about the same as the Kings.

Luckily for the Jazz the deadline came late this year and GS didn't make this move until now. I'm not sure they can tank that bad in the time they have left.

waiting for that pick is more thrilling than Jazz game. I want those two picks badly there is no way we could win with Harris,Bell,CJ, etc we need frash blood

look at that:According to beat writer Matt Steinmetz, the Warriors are considering shutting down Stephen Curry (ankle) for "a while, and perhaps the rest of the season."
Steinmetz writes that it's "no secret the Warriors' fist-round draft pick factors into this decision," but we're more inclined to believe that Curry's simply not healthy enough to play. He's sprained his ankle multiple times this season and has been a complete bust from a fantasy perspective. Owners of Curry should hold for the time being until we get a definitive update, but it sounds like Curry could be sidelined for quite some time.

we still could have both picks, GS must have tank very very deep it's not that easy in NBA.
i'm more worried of that Minny pick, GO Houston.

That's true, but they were very good. Lamarcus Aldridge seems like he should be dominating and then you have reallly good 3 point shooters on that team as well. They're also very long at nearly every position. That's why I thought they were a top 10 team. But Felton and Mathews seem to be dragging Portland down.

Here's a depressing rumor everyone:

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/...-sit-stephen-curry-for-the-rest-of-the-season
The article says: "Warriors could shut Curry down for the season"

Well, they soundly thrashed Sacramento without him last night. Assume Kenwood is correct and all teams worse than GS play at about their same pace. That means GS has to finish with 23 wins. They have 13 home games left.

Reasonably Winnable games:

Home

Milwaukee
Minnesota
Sacramento
New Orleans
New Jersey
New Orleans

Away

@New Orleans

Not much margin for error, I'm afraid. They have a very tough stretch of games against WC playoff teams. They're going to need to surprise a team or two along the way. My fear is they'll just win 3-4 more games. And you couldn't really accuse them of tanking if Curry is hurt. Their trade esssentially sacrifices wins this season for a potentially great Lee-Bogut combo next year. Let's just hope they have a few more wins in them like last night and the teams below them also start thinking about getting a better draft position.

Okay, this officially sucks balls. Instead of laughing my *** off and being happy that LAL is down 14 at half to NOH ... I find myself yelling at them to get their **** together and win the game. HATE, hate that.

LOL.. I like your honesty.

Only lost by 2. The players don't look like they're tanking. Still room for optimism, folks. There's also room for pessimism but many have already figured that out.

The players don't look like they're tanking.

The players aren't going to lose on purpose. That doesn't happen. Mark Jackson also isn't going to lose on purpose. Tanking is when the FO makes decisions that make it less likely for their team to win. Like trading a starter for a player that is injured and out for the rest of the year, or sitting a key player with an injury, when they would probably still be playing if the team was fighting for a playoff spot. Trading Ellis was a tank move, but you'll know they're in full out tank mode when they announce Curry is shut down for the year. Even when that happens, it doesn't mean they're going to lose every game.

GS is going to try to keep that pick, and to be honest, they'd be stupid not to. Luckily for Utah, that decision is coming late enough, and their team is still good enough, that they'll still win some games. Our greatest hope is that enough of the other bottom feeders will be tanking hard to give themselves a better shot at the top pick.

I hope Dwight follows thru on what he said in the real GM article and stays in Orlando this year, so NJ doesn't get him and then they play better. I want everyone below GSW to continue to be below GSW.
