What's new

Guys I'd rather have than Wesley Matthews

How bout a guy like Shannon Brown of the Lakers? We can work DWill @ the SG position as Brown is a big PG also. And with the lakers signing Steve Blake and trying to sign Fish this will hamper their ability to resign him @ a rate like 3/$12M or 4/$15M, wouldn't it?

Not a bad idea. Brown is also a UFA and seems to be a decent energy guy off the bench.

It's not 5 million per year, Marcus. It's essentially 7 million per year with almost 10 million paid up front.

The Jazz should have confidence that they can find and to some extents create another Wesley Matthews.

Yeah, I just saw the 5 years at 34 million. Too much. We'll need to rely on Miles, Hayward and AK to man the 2 & 3. Bring up a D leaguer fill the roster out. I'm still saying no to Brewer.

Sirkick, I'd take Matthews over every single one of your picks, but don't have time at the moment to break each one down. I would take issue with the fact that he has little room for improvement when he made such a huge improvement in such a short period last year.

A guy I like for a replacement for Wes is Joe Crawford. Same size as Wes, has hops and can shoot the 3 ball. He played well in the Orlando summer league and would most likely be a minimum salary. He's Jordan Crawford's brother.

Giving Wes Matthews Raja Bell money isn't a bad thing. The Jazz need to hold on to their assets. Matthews is a good young player who plays hard and fits Sloan's system.

All of a sudden, CJ Miles' contract is looking reasonable. Remember, the Jazz once gave Gordan Giricek $4mm/year. Why not give Matthews $5mm? Is he that easy to replace?

Hello, Luther Head.

I figure it's him or Ronnie Brewer at this point. Brewer got some skillz that Luther don't, mebbe, but vice versa too. Luther can shootz da 3-ball likka sumbitch, anna lot mo cheapa. Plus Deron loves his ***.

C.J. Miles now DA MAN at the 2 spot

Edit: Oops: Too late, yet agin, eh, KOC?:

"New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - The Hornets have reached an agreement to sign free agent guard Luther Head, according to New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower.

Bower told the Times Picayune that the two sides agreed to a two-year contract worth close to $2.3 million. It's expected he will compete with Marcus Thornton for playing time.

A five-year veteran out of Illinois, the 27-year-old Head has competed in 312 career games for Houston, Miami and Indiana. He has career per-game averages of 8.5 points, 2.5 boards and 2.2 assists. Head was drafted 24th overall by the Rockets in 2005 and has 68 starts to his credit while averaging 23.1 minutes. "

+1 rep. Didn't realize he'd already received a $12 million offer sheet from the Nets. Eminently reasonable.

I made this error because he still appears on free agency lists due to not technically being under contract yet. We can scratch him off the list.

Tony Allen. I completely agree. Those other players. Noped.

And why would Tony Allen leave an NBA finals team (Boston) to come to the Jazz? Seems unlikely, unless we offer him way more than Boston. In which case I would stick with Matthews, who our coaches are more familiar with, plus he's 5 years younger. None of the others have Matthews all-round skills. Remember the Jazz gave away Brewer because Matthews as a rookie FA was already better. And, he showed such improvement over the course of last season AND continued to improve in the playoffs, NO WAY he's reached his max. He's worth the $$$, so pay him. Assuming we do keep him, AK is outa here next season, unless we greatly reduce his salary.

You recall wrongly. After the Brewer trade in mid-February, Matthews scored 20+ only twice the rest of the season. By contrast, he had five games where he scored six or less points.

As a starter Matthews averaged 10.9 ppg.

Kick, do you know what Matthews averaged during the playoffs? Should that matter?

The biggest frustration is the jazz once again sat and waited, and let someone else set the price. Now they they have to either swallow the toxic offer that was designed to hurt them, or go out looking for leftovers. And the players lef are left overs.

This buisness model wreaks of weakness, and is hard to sell to your fans and players.

Can potland make a toxic offer for KOC & randy Rigby???
