What's new

Have we ever had a team this unified?

Ok, prepared-for-incoming-shrapnel, but I think this is our best team ever, including the finals teams.

I wouldn't trade Stock and Malone for Rudy and Mitchell. It's not the same neighborhood, given longevity, proven / completed career et al, but it is the same area code. Those two don't suck.

But I would trade Hornacek for Ingles, and Ostertag for Faves. And Russell for Rubio. And the bench! Oi, the bench. Those finals benches SUCKED compared to this one. Keefe vs Crowder, Eisley vs Exum / Neto, Foster vs Jerebko / Thabo, Udoh vs Foster. Heck ya. 10 days out of 10.

I hear a bunch say we're aren't competing for the championship this year. Ok. You're entitled to your opinion, but I think we compete with anyone.

Agreed. He is a good soldier and won’t cause any issues or say anything but it’s killing him to ride pine. Dude loves to play basketball

I want the Jazz to stretch him if he can find another contract. He simply doesn't fit this system for some reason I can't pin down, but he can help a team win.

You'd think he would be perfect as the ball handler in high double screen HORNS (it's the play where Rubio spins his hands around to call the play) but he's not getting those scoop shot or circus shot drives Rubio, Ingles, and DM get from it. He was perfect for that play in the past.

Would love to see a Stockton-Rubio match up. But if they went head to head, Malone would post the crap out our D and Jerry would not defend nor shoot the 3.

3 > 2. Jazz win!

I think that the late 90's Jazz teams were just as unified. They just had a more business like attitude. This current Jazz team is more extroverted with the media and fans.

I really think you need to sign Favors and Rubio and bake that cake. Mitchell is a rookie, and every player is still getting better. Gotta see what this group + draft picks can do. No ****ing up the chemistry at this point.

Unless we win the title this year, I would offer Favors a 1 year deal at a really good salary. And I would wait until he hits free agency in 2019 to re-sign Rubio. I LOVE this team. Do not get me wrong. But our financial flexibility in 2019 free agency is very very important if we have any designs on building a championship team.

I agree 100% that the current Jazz are contenders this year. I also agree that this current team is deeper than those Finals teams. But I can't agree that this team is better than those Finals teams. Can't do it. The Jazz in 96-97 won a franchise record 64 games. They were 2nd in PPG, 2nd in offensive rating, 8th in PPG allowed, 9th in defensive rating and had a +8.8 point differential. The Jazz in 97-98 won 62 games. They were 3rd in PPG, 1st in offensive rating, 13th in PPG allowed, 17th in defensive rating and had a +6.6 point differential. Despite the slight drop in stats I would call the 97-98 team the best in Jazz history. If not for some poor officiating, they win the Finals.

No offense to the Stockton and Malone era. I only liked Stock, B russ, Malone, Big Dog, and Anderson. This team I love every single player baby. And we have no stiffs like Ostertag or Foster.

I don't remember ever thinking of him so negatively, though I agree that he was no genius. The thing I remember most about him was that he was the Jazz's first tattooed player. It seemed like a turning point that they would sign a guy who had chosen to do that.

He was a poor man's JR Smith, and up until that point, the biggest Free Agent the Jazz had ever scored. He couldn't play in regular rotations though. You pretty much busted him out when nothing else was working and let him iso a few times to see if he was on fire. A handful of times this actually worked. . .

Obviously given my membership name, I mean no disrespect to those teams. My point was that after the Stock and Malone, I would trade our entire team straight across. That's pretty cool! And I believe, going off the top of my head, we finished this year 28 and 6, which % applied to 82 games is 67 wins. I'm exulting in how strong our team is from 3 on down.
