Hayward and Phoenix

So, right now PHX has the 12th worst record and are just outside the playoffs. If you hit December, and Hayward is still down, if you are PHX, do you offer your unprotected pick for Hayward? If you are Utah, do you accept it?

That would give you a top 3 pick, a 10-14 pick and a 15-25 pick. You take your guy with the first pick, but then you can get creative with the last two. Does 12 and 17 get you into the top 10? A very solid player?

Be I crazy? Or ingenious?

Love it that others are starting to see Hayward isn't a starter on a good team. Just like ive always said. Yet another rthing ive been right about but yet sooo many here say im clueless

12 and 17 might get you James Young and Aaron Harrison. I don't think it will allow you to get a top 10 but it is early so who knows? I doubt Phoenix would do it though. If they want Hayward they can make an offer for him without giving up a pick.

Now, let me say I really, really like Hayward. He is a very very nice player. BUT, if PHX is going to give him max money, you can't match that. If PHX feels that they are going to push for the playoffs, then Hayward is better than any player they could draft, it helps Utah not lose him for nothing or overpay him, and gives Utah flexibility.

Could PHX do their first and second this year?

Your line of thinking is probably what Phoenix is hoping for and that's why they leaked that rumor to the press. If we trade him to Phoenix for a mid first round pick (currently 14) and they only have to match Hayward at 8 million a year, they won the trade with flying colors.

This^^^

The Jazz hold all the cards. I personally think that they'll match whatever contract he signs, which locks him up for 4 years as the #2 (or #3) option with at least two young bigs (three if Gobert develops), an expected stud wing to be the #1 option, a developing PG and at least one more potential stud from this loaded draft. I don't see him going anywhere (especially since I don't see him getting a MAX contract from anyone after this season.)

I think we would have to ask for two first rounders at least, right?

Hayward isnt a scrub or just average. He is pretty darn good player. Maybe not all-star but borderline. He's young and still has room to grow.

I think that he is worth a lot more than one late lottery pick.

The way he's playing right now I'm taking that late lottery pick.

Agree. Too many people are thinking irrationally. Yes, he's playing like crap right now. He's a notorious slow starter and is being asked this season to shoulder ALL the outside shooting PLUS be the primary playmaker. It's too much for him to handle. IS he a MAX player? No. But he's going to be a helluva good player once he has some support from a decent PG and another shooter on the court. We're still talking about a player who has averaged about 45%/40% and has now upped his assists and rebounding. He's also playing hurt.

If Portland had a top-7 pick and wanted to trade the rights to that player for Hayward, Utah would have to consider. The monetary savings would be tempting. Outside of that, no way.

Great post.

If phx wants hayward that bad they will have to pay a high price. Much more than one draft pick. With bledsoe being in the same position as hayward I doubt they want to get into a bidding war with us. They have to realize that it would only end badly for both franchises.

depends on the offer. Hayward and Evans for one of the Morris's, Goodwin and their pick but not until the trade deadline. maybe a second but Hayward is one of my favs. it is tough because we don't know how he will perform with more talent.

Hayward for the Phoenix pick unprotected, and the Washington Wizards pick they acquired that is top 12 protected this year. We should also get back Gerald Green with this deal. Less than that and we say no.

Suns lol... Hang up...and toast to idiocy of jazz for expecting that return

Would you give Hayward max money?

Any GM with half a brain wouldn't give up a lottery pick for Hayward...but there might be some GM's with less than half a brain so...

I think Hayward for their unprotected 2014 draft pick makes a lot of sense. If for no other reason, it gives us another team to knock the Warriors out of the playoff race.
