Good hell give me a break.
Why? It was, in my opinion, stupid and thoughtless. You disagree? Great. We can move on.
Good hell give me a break.
Right?
And you see why the rest of the country call jazz fans classless?
Explain. Again, both aren't preventible, especially cancers like retinoblastoma in children. So, I assume, you think it's okay to make a joke rooted in someone's child having cancer, but not okay to make a joke rooted in someone's child being retarded?
Three things:
1. Cancer is curable. Obviously not in every case, but many, many people who have been diagnosed with cancer have been able to overcome it. I have never heard of anyone being cured of retardation.
2. "Retard" is commonly used in a defamatory manner, to infer lack of intelligence. You don't hear things like, "Smooth move, cancer patient." Before you wade into the waters of comparing "cancer" as a derogatory term (as in, "DWill is a locker room cancer") please note that, in this respect, it is the cancer itself, and not the cancer patient that is being compared.
3. It is a bit of a leap to assert that disdain for Fisher's actions equals disdain for his daughter or her condition. These are two separate issues that you seem to be unable to distinguish. I don't remember anybody making a joke about Fisher's daughter. If I'm wrong, feel free to enlighten me.
Personally, I don't care about Fish. He did what he did, and I don't care if hos motivations were pure or not. He struck a deal with Larry, so that was that. It's a little funny that there are still some hung up over that whole situation. A lot of it is probably frustration with no movement on the trade front.
Hope that clears it up for ya!
For me it is the fact that I have had two extremely close family relations die within the last 6 months from cancer.
Edit: That has clouded my view of the issue.
I can appreciate that. Cancer isn't a laughing matter. I have lost family to it myself. But I don't consider the Fisher cracks an affront to those who have cancer. Fisher is ridiculed because he is perceived as having taken advantage of his daughter's condition to make a professional move that he otherwise wouldn't have been able to, at that point. Whether or not he did is irrelevant. The point is, Fisher and his motives are the target of the jokes, not his daughter or her condition.
This seems very obvious but some people don't see it that way. I have been a repping slut lately so I'll have to remember to get you some other time.I can appreciate that. Also a big YEP.Maturity prevails.
Thank you Bronco.
If Fisher had signed with a team anywhere EAST of Salt Lake City there probably wouldn't have been so much vitriol.
+ not only did he sign with a team WEST of Salt Lake, it was with the friggin' Lakers.
+ Fisher seemed like a duplicitous dick before he ever came to Utah anyway, AND the national media lauds him for being the saint of the NBA, so any c-ink in that choir boy facade gets pounced on by those who see thru it.
+ Utah has enough of a read headed step child complex already.
Add it all up and man, I really hate that guy.
Nevertheless - the fan covering his eye while Fisher was shooting free throws makes me cringe. Not cool - I don't want anyone to associate me with that guy. That was one instance where the hate spilled over into mocking his child's condition. Not funny. Not cool. Really stupid.
But hating Fisher for being a duplicitous pseudo-saint I'm totally cool with.
ladida.

Fisher hasn't reported to the Rockets yet.
Hopefully he retires. Talk about a gigantic baby who now seems to think he is bigger than the game. I guess he doesn't understand anymore what a trade is.
As much as I dislike Fisher, I don't think this has anything to do with him. There was a rumor Houston was going to waive him. If that's the case, why report?Fisher hasn't reported to the Rockets yet.
