I Still Support Hayward

Let me just say that Stockton and Malone couldn't get out of the west till Horny got there, and Hayward can be that guy. That's why it's critical to resign him. He helps put us over the top.
Hornacek made like 1/8 of the cap when he played for Utah. He was also a much better shooter and scorer than Gordo.

I hope we keep Hayward at a reasonable rate. I could support 12 mil if it fit with the plan, and I would have to assume it did if they sign him for that. Even if they sign him for more, at some point we either support the FO or simply rebel, in which case we might as well move over to Spurs Talk or whatever and start posting about the repeat.

I respect the Hayward fans. We've had many players I've liked that had to go too.

It's time to move on. He's not a cornerstone, but wants to be paid like one.

He's a little kid who spends too much time on video games. We only should pay the max to men.

Man, why the hate on Hayward. He is just trying to get all he can from probably the best contract of his career.

Wouldn't we all do the same. Favors wimped out so he is better ? Favors would be getting a Max somewhere if he waited.

I do not think Hayward will get a Max this year, I think all those articles are via his agent.

He still will get 12/13 a year from Jazz which is still overpaying but good for him.

Now, I would like to see him be aggressive on the floor as he is with his :)

Unfortunately for Hayward , he is a #2 or #3, We really do not have a #1 and even Locke thinks we are 3 years from playoffs.

Locke made an interesting comment yesterday implying Hayward took it easy last month or so so he did not get hurt....
Just his guess, he said he did not know.

Yes he's a better shooter, and I don't know what he made per year, but he wasn't a better scorer during the time he was a member of the jazz.

The most he ever scored for the jazz was 16.5, and the two finals years he scored 14.5 and 14.2 points. One thing I will point out is that, and this does give me hope for Hayward is that Horny was just as if not more inconsistent with his shot the first 3 years, and he was never the go to guy during that time. Two of those three years he couldn't even break 30% from three, and the other year he shot 33%. So basically your comparing a finished product to one that hasn't reached his peak. Also don't forget, by the time Horny got to the jazz he was older and slower, and his defense was none existent. Hayward's defense is LaBron James like compared to Horny.

Horny was a good player, but let's be honest... He was on the down slope of his career, and while a little better then Hayward is now... Hayward is still improving, and could pass the jazz version of Horny.

You know how Hayward spends all this time?

He's also a company man to the end. His arguments frequently lack internal consistency, and always support the decisions management makes.

I consider myself intelligent enough to sift through information and evaluate arguments, so I don't particularly feel the need to only seek out sources of info that are always 100% 'accurate' or that are always perfectly objective or are always internally consistent or only say things I agree with. Besides, if I did, just who would that be? Certainly no one on this board, and certainly no one I've ever listened to in sports punditry.

Sure Locke is a 'company man' to a degree because . . . he's a company man. There's a line he can't cross, and he knows it, but I think, on the whole, he does a quite good job of of walking it.

Even Locke admitted with his analytics analysis that by year 4 a player is who he is. Very few exceptions.

So essentially, we know what Hayward is. He's a soft athletic wing with decent ball handling who cannot shot. In fact he was in the top 10 worst catch and shoot guys in the entire league. He refuses to attack the paint, has zero post up game, and is mentally weak.

Locke's stats seem to agree completely with Stan Van Gundy's observation.

If the Gordy fan club proclaims that they know more than Locke's state and SVG's analysis, then more power to ya... An ok role player when there are already 2-3 stars on the team.

But the rest of us living in reality? We see that he Clearly is not a max guy.

How much would you be willing to offer him? Your absolute max?

I've talked myself into 13-13.5M. Maybe 14M. Wtf is wrong with me?

Maybe SVG's words caught a bunch of GM's ears and that's why Hayward (perhaps?) isn't getting offers, let alone the kind he was looking for.

SVG is a smart dude and it wouldn't shock me if GM's listened. We can only hope.

4 years, 36M Hayward. Suck it.

After his visit to Charlotte next week what may really happened is Gordon may be locking himself in to whatever the Jazz are willing to pay. If everyone thinks the Jazz are going to match anything and no one's willing to offer him the max, which I don't think they will. He may be stuck with a five-year 50mil or five year $60mil contract that only the Jazz offer. The question is if he can't get a offer from anybody what do the Jazz offer? 8-10mil, 10-12mil, 12-13mil? I think 10-12mil. He wanted to set his own price and that maybe what he's done.

My prediction is we'll get him for about what we offered him in the pre-season.

I'd be good with that.

Good point. DL might have played hardball and told him his offer will only be good for a day. If he chooses to play the field, the offer will be withdrawn.
