Is it Jerry's fault we never have good shooters?

My dad has said for years that our players are so worried about missing a shot and getting pulled/yelled at by coach Sloan that they think too hard about aiming, start pressing and end up shooting worse than normal. This obviously doesn't apply to all players, but it seems like many of these supposed deadeyes suddenly lose their jumpers once they start playing here.

Yes, some of the blame is with Jerry. Notice how Phil's guys and Pop's guys, the role players, can and do hit clutch shots in big games? Notice how jerry's guys don't?

The other part of the equation is player selection. The Jazz are way too comfortable carrying way too many guys who just cannot shoot. Ronnie Price for one. Chicken-wing Brewer for another. And those guys are SHOOTING guards for krists sake. Notice how Pops and the Spurs are always loaded with shooters while the Jazz never are.

I almost peed myself that was so lulz. Repped.

Maybe. But it doesn't help when the one guy who is shooting well gets pulled for a guy who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with his shot. That would be Jerry's fault.

Jerry feels if you run the offense correctly you get a layup every time. Why would you need shooters for that?

Exactly that is why he stacks the team with Harp and AJ who can always make their la...uh....nevermind.

Has your dad seen CJ play? Probably not. Ask him if he really thinks CJ looks worried and nervous about jacking up shots out there

That's exacly what I thought, but the OP already disclaimed it. Must be a lawyer, no matter what you say he will be right.

I don't think it is fear of coach, but rather the system. It is geared towards layups, which are obviously the best shot to take, and we do generate a lot of them. But the motion offense requires a lot of shooting on the move too, often while moving parallel to the basket and being required to be able to turn quickly, square up, and shoot always somewhat off-balance. As good as most players are at mid-range that is a tough shot. We do not allow for much spot-up shooting, unless it is a broken play which means a hand in the face is almost guaranteed. A few players can adapt. Korver for one. Harpring developed a nice curl shot. But others just have a hard time finding that shot. CJ struggles at the curl and if he isn't left alone has a hard time hitting anything else. If we ran more plays for pure spot-ups we would have more success at outside shots and jump-shots that were uncontested or at least have more separation from the defender. If you watch the Lakers triangle it generates a lot of hard cuts to the basket and sets players up so that when they get the ball mid-range they are facing the basket. Our only players who get in that position, besides D Will who can create his own shot, are the forward, and forwards might have a decent mid-range game but they are always going to be better around the basket. That is why they tend to get left open at mid-range. And of course players like AK and Brewer who couldn't hit anything with consistency in an empty gym.
