Is Joe Johnson off the Jazz Tradable Assets List?

Seriously, what teams would even be able to and also want to trade for Johnson? Most good teams don't have $10 million in dead weight contracts or superfluous 2nds.
This is true, but the distribution of assets will probably look different at the trade deadline than it does today.

But one team would be the Sixers. Still have a ton of 2nd rounders from the Hinkie era (good ones too). I could see their new FO really valuing JJ.

I don't know how people dismiss 2nd round picks so easily. I guess Kris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon, or Draymond Green arent valuable.

Those are all possibilities. But they're possibilities and not probabilities. I'd say the probabilities of JJ leading us to the WCF is likely a signficant amount greater than the probability of landing one of those guys in the second round. That's not to say I think JJ will do that, it's to say this is based on a dream scenario. Sure, you could say people discount second rounders because you can find gems like the guys above, but it'd be (at worst) just as rational (but actually much more rational) to say people overvalue second round picks because "I guess guys like Sean Lampley, Chris Taft and Shan Foster are valuable."

Right. DL is going around running workouts for guys nobody has ever heard of to start to sell the league on Utah being a good place to come play, for word of mouth to eventually travel around over time to make us a desirable FA destination. What better way to complement that process than taking our largest FA acquisition of the last decade and shipping him off to the Sixers for a couple low-level assets, effectively squeezing every last drop of value out of a guy before we toss him so DL can continue to be the Danny Ainge of the second round.

Yes, Utah will be the first team ever to trade a player they signed.

You're missing the context. We could certainly trade him. That's part of the business. But if we're willing to shaft someone so that we can pick up an asset that is significantly smaller than the level of shaft they received, that's not going to go unnoticed, especially if DL thinks working out people that homey tennis hasn't even heard of is somehow going to get noticed.

Cue Cy's explanation of how the Sixers could be a great situation for JJ next year.

Is going to Philly where they have a shot of being very good in a weak conference getting shafted?

JJ came to Utah in a similar position as to what Philly is currently in. If JJ does enjoy the mentor role then he would love going to Philly.

Given the role he played for us last year, if I was in charge, and as long as JJ wanted to stay in Utah, I would just honor the contract to its conclusion. I wouldn't worry about squeezing every last asset out of the situation like a contestant on The Apprentice.

What would you do if he asked for a trade or was completely indifferent to a trade?

If he wants to be traded, then you try to move him at the deadline. If he's indifferent, and the Jazz are competitive, you keep him.

Then that's a completely different scenario than what we've been talking about. You stated something to the effect that there's no way he should be on the roster past the deadline.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to know his position given those scenarios...

I still think there is going to be a great trade for the Jazz involving JJ and it's in their best interest to trade him.

Maybe, but it sure as **** ain't for a second rounder (or two).

They own NYC and Brooklyn 2nd round picks this year. Those will both certainly be top 40. Does that not make you pause at all?
Not even for a second. The Jazz aren't tanking, and should be doing their best to acquire talent. JJ is easily one of the top 8/9 players on the roster, and thus would get significant minutes in a playoff rotation. No way I give him up for 2nd round picks unless he asks me to. I'd even prefer to keep him beyond this season if the price is right.

And Philly has a handful of great 2nd round picks, they are better than low level assets

How are the 2nd rounders gonna be good ones if Philly is very good in a weak east? Philly being good makes the picks bad right?

Edit: you explained that they have ny, and bk picks.
