Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

NY is not only under pressure to get Donovan, they are also under pressure to look like they didn't get fleeced.

I suspect this delay is due to third team being involved, where Jazz give up another one of their pieces to a third team and NY ends up with another player they want. Jazz get more picks.

Totally agree with this. We have all of the leverage here, it’s wonderful
I remember doing a Jazzfanz current draft. The draft was in the later rounds my team was nearly complete and I think it was . @Elizah Huge don’t remember the players involved, but but I guess he was in discussions with someone else and he contacted me about a three way trade. He or someone else wanted one of my players that I didn’t really want to trade. But Elizah hounded and hounded me, so finally I said I didn’t want the guy being offered, but that I liked another guy. Elizah gave push back. I remember saying something like I didn’t see any reason to make the trade but he obviously had to have my player and I wasn’t budging, a few messages later Elizah finally gave in and gave me exactly what I wanted. I had all the power in those discussions and won. Not saying this to disparage Elizah, just that he had the need and I had his fix. That’s pretty close to the jazz and Knicks. Jazz have the high ground, the Knicks need what the jazz have. Danny just needs to stand pat and I’m telling you we could possibly get Grimes Toppin and Quickley and 6 picks if Danny is patient enough. Just saying let’s be greedy!!

Do you recall this at all @Elizah Huge ? It would’ve been lice 5-7 years ago or something. For the life of me I can’t remember the players involved.

Man if we could unload Conley, Gay, Mitchell and maybe Bogey and get back 1-3 young prospects with upside and 8-10 picks that would be a historic off-season probably for any team ever. Wild that this kind of thing is actually a possibility, and this is not just crazy talk. Wow.

He's a podcaster who thinks he has a source. However, what he's saying aligns with Tony Jones and Shams' reporting regarding who is in the package. It's just one more thing to consider.
granted you or i could say the same thing regarding who is in the package based on shams and everybody else who either actually does have an in or thinks they do.

I could give a **** about any of the players rumored to be in the deal, the only thing that matters it the picks.

The Heat are a very good franchise, the Knicks are a garbage franchise.

The NYK picks are the prize here. Miami's picks are not.

One small thing in this deal to watch... NY has a good amount of second round picks. I might try and snake a couple of those as minor as it sounds. I think some of our guys like JC, Bogey, Vando could net firsts but some might need a second with them to get a first... I would try to sneak a couple of those to grease the wheels on those deals.
Opportunities to restock the cupboard with 2nd rounders will not be in short supply but I think the Jazz should seize every one that they can. They don't get a lot of shine as an asset in huge deals, but they spike in value when there's a flurry of activity or perhaps when you catch a team (like the Jazz) that don't have any 2nds.

That's a long way of me saying that I'm in agreement.

Yeah, Miami's offer would a bunt that grounds out to the pitcher and the Knicks offer would be a grand slam.

IDK how anyone can remotely think this.

If they could get a 1st for Lowry and a 1st for Strus then it is in the same ballpark at least.

23/27/29 unprotected 1sts
24/26/28 pick swaps

2 other 1sts from other teams

Herro and 5 1sts plus 3 pick swaps is definitely in the same ballpark.

We would much rather have the Knicks picks in their package if all things were equal. They can obviously give us more and without having to do anything else.

not really a question of herro and grimes. it's a question of picks in terms of number and value.

herro is likely better now than grimes will ever be.
It's also timeline.

I dont think Herro could elevate us that much, but maybe we do get Vic in the 2023 draft. Would Herro+Vic make us win too many games and lose our 2024 pick?

I think the dream is two years of being painfully bad and a gradual increase until you have to pay Vic his 2nd contract, then you start pushing your assets in to get as much talent as possible around Victor.

If the Jazz havent figured out how to get a 1st for Mike Conley yet, there is no way the Heat are getting a first for Strus or Lowry. It's just not a thing that is going to happen. Plus the Miami picks are objectively lower value, so even if the straight # is the same, the perceived value is still lower. Plus the Knicks have younger picks.

IDK why we talking about Miami when the only reason Miami is talked about on National TV as a suitor is just because they are Miami. They dont have the necessary value to get a deal done with Utah.
