Jazz Have a Chance at Kaman

Should the Jazz just cut Kanter?

It really doesnt seem like anyone wants to see him play.

Nice misrepresentation of what is being said. If any of the 4 main bigs (Millsap, Favors, Kanter and Big Al) are traded the Jazz need a 3rd string back up big. If we only have 3 and one goes down we are suddenly very thin at that position. If you can get Kaman as a 3rd big then hell yes.

Math> stroked.

Jazz have the 4 bigs. If jazz trade one and bring in Kaman, then we are back at 4 bigs. Making Kanter( our long forgotten 3rd overall pick) the 4th big.

The only part of my post that is not clear is that it should say "...Kaman as a 3rd string (word was not there)..."

Also no one is calling for Kaman over Kanter so knock that off. Back troll back!!!

Love you Blues

A leak like that is most likely generated by Kamans agent in an attempt to build leverage for a negotiation. There may be something to it, then again maybe not.

Yes, the source of Bucher's tweet is clearly the agent. Tweet talks about both Kaman & Mayo -- both represented by same agent (Rob Pelinka).

Is that what he is being paid? No thanks. Can the Jazz use the MLE as has been mentioned? How long is his contract?

Kaman's currently a FA. He made $14m last season. To work in a sign-and-trade for Big Al, he'd need to be signed at $10m for next season, unless other NO players were thrown in. If the Jazz were to just try and sign him outright, they'd have to use the MLE. I think it would be better to sign him outright and look for a better deal involving Big Al rather than pay him the $10m.

Not sure about the dollars, but if we could get him and a 1st rounder for Big Al, I might do it. He's both a better defender and rebounder than Big Al, and I think would fit in better. He would come off the bench with Kanter, or you could start him and have Millsap off the bench -- also not sure about him because of his injuries.

Oh great, Boozer's agent. He'll leak anything in an attempt to get his client more money.

Still, it would solve some problems. You could start Favors and Millsap and have Kaman and Kanter as the backups. Would Kaman be happy with 15-20 mins/per?

actually not true. NOH has tons of cap space, even if they match on gordon. so they could S&T kaman for beans and still work a S&T for al. remember, 150% + 100K doesn't apply to teams under the cap.

Lewis buyout $13.7
Jack $5.4
Gordon Cap hold $9,577,960
Aminu $3
Smith $2.5
Henry $2.3
Vasquez $1.2
Davis $4.3
Rivers $1.9

That's about $44mm without adding the cap holds and non-guaranteed contracts of the other 7 guys (2nd rounders don't count against the cap). It's conceivable that they could assume his contract for a TPE but it's pushing numerous assumptions and that's before adding another $3-4 million to match Eric Gordon's PHX offer. They would have to renounce rights to everyone and let guys like Carl Landry walk for nothing. For all intents and purposes, they have to sign and trade a $10mm Kaman for Al Jefferson.

If this is true it supports the theory that Utah is actively trying to move Jefferson without taking much salary back.

so they'd renounce guys. that's what teams to do avail themselves of cap space. and it's not like they have a lot they'd need to renounce. there's bellineli, whom they'd probably renounced in a second; kaman, whom they wouldn't need to renounce since they'd be signing him; gordon, who as i said at this point either counts at the full max deal or at $0; and landry.

so yes, they would have to renounce some players -- landry.

and anyway, i wasn't commenting on the plausibility of a deal or guessing as to whether NOH would be willing to renounce rights to marco or landry... i was just reminding nightmare that in the particular case, the hornets don't have to send us 10M for the deal to work.
