Jazz Just Signed Trevor Booker According To Woj

I like it. Enforcer on a scrappy upstart team. Would probably stop any and all wet willy/slapping the ball out of people's hands shenanigans. Because that's the only thing holding us back. Too many damn wet willies.
Go on
Guys- he posted positive PER. 5 Mil a year is not bad at all for a young guy with a nice midrange game and is willing bang down low. We need quality reserves and he fits the bill. 5 Million...lol have you seen the contracts this offseason? chump change nowadays.
Im listnening

That is what I missed when the Jazz let Watson go. Still very fondly remember him going after Dirk for the way he slapped the ball out of Favors hands.

Love our group of guys but damnit I want to see some fire. Biggest thing missing from this team is some damn swagger and attitude.

Ok im now warming up to him
I'd take Murphy over Evans. Evans doesn't provide anything but energy and you can get that from any young player.

Come on man
What does Murphy provide? Energy > Nothing.

I guess Ayon is probably off the radar now.

For sure.

I did some research and he recently had shoulder surgery, so that might be scaring teams off. I just assumed the Jazz would address the area of need with a cheaper option.

Really hate the mindset of not getting talented players because they all "need" minutes. That is why you have a HC, so he can control the team and make them work together and not have minutes played be an issue with anyone.

Evans isn;t like Novak, Novak isn't like Booker, they are all different players who can play different roles based on situations. As a coach, that is what you want, flexibility so you can find what works and motivate players with earning playing time.

Evans can't provide anything that Trevor Booker can't. Trevor Booker is actually pretty athletic. No he can't jump out of the gym but Booker is better at everything else.

Evans will just be sitting on the bench doing nothing. He won't play. If we keep him great. but I think he deserves some minutes on some team, but its not ours now.

One more thing:

Signings like this INCREASE our flexibility to trade young assets for a bonafide star. For example, as of today, Kanter and Burke are very "packageable" (because we have multiple players ready to plug-in to their spots). If you add a couple of picks to that (which we've been stockpiling), then things get very interesting.

When you are a bottom rotation player in the league, you have to compete with other bottom rotation players for minutes. Nothing is deserved. Evans has improved every year, so I think he will continue to do so.

I disagree that he brings nothing unique in regards to Booker. Evans just makes some ridiculous plays with his athletic ability that possibly no one else in the league can make. Those kind of plays really give the whole team a boost. I don't see why he can't continue to get spot minutes here and there, even with Booker.

Fair point. But it makes it harder to resign them both if that ends up being the action the FO chooses to take.

2 sides to every coin.

Your views are comical. So the Jazz should get rid of Evans out of goodwill so he can get some extra minutes elsewhere?

Another scrub no one else wanted. Seems DL still keeps at least one old Utah tradition going. Sometimes being a Jazz fan you just have to shake your head. I would have rather kept the #35 pick.

Booker is far from a scrub.

There was certainly a bunch of teams bidding on Booker, he said he was in negotiations with a bunch of teams during the playoffs when it still would have been tampering.

Haha... He's got size. I'd put size over energy and drawing ability. (TWSS) Murphy is supposed to be able to shoot, but he hasn't shown it yet. I think the Booker signing makes Evans completely expendable and I'd rather take on a younger player with arguably more potential.

Evans would own Murphy if they played each other. Murphy might be the worse guy on our summer league team. I have no idea why the Jazz would keep him. He is suppose to be able to shoot. Really, guy can't even make a layup. Evans 8 out of ten times puts up decent numbers when he plays. Evans could have a role on this team if given the chance. Murphy has done nothing in the NBA, slow and can't jump.

Your disagreeing with something that I never said? lol
Yes I pointed out he can jump higher. I am pointing out that Booker has a better outside shot. Better rebounder. better post moves. seems to understand where to be on offense and find those holes in the offense to get easy buckets. Better at setting screens.
Evans yes can make incredible plays with athleticism. but we can also find tons of guys in the d-league that have that ability to make athletic plays. I like Evans and think he is a great energy hustle guys off the bench. but now he won't be apart of the rotations.

Michael Lee: Trevor Booker is an unrestricted free agent & has attracted interest from several teams (MIA, MIN, UTA, BKN, NYK, ORL & WAS)

from July 1st. theres no way the Jazz were bidding against themselves on this deal.

Well enlighten me then, I don't know much about him but I certainly haven't heard his name in NBA circles. He certainly isn't a difference maker. Just a role player, but I don't know much about him so I could be wrong. Just not that excited about him.

Um you clearly said Evans can't provide anything Booker can't.

What NBA circles you hang out in?

He is just a role player, but those dudes are kind of important.

He can get a double-double, he can defend, he can hit the 15-18 footer. He is going to be physical. If Favors/Kanter go down, he can start and not be overwhelmed by NBA starters.

I don't expect anyone to get super excited about a back-up, but he is the kind of player the Jazz needed to help round out their rotation.
