Jazz make an offer to Josh Howard

I would like Howard. He would give us a defensive option and toughness at the SF. Kinda like Raja is supposed to do at SG. There are going to be nights where we are going to need help holding the star wing players in check.

I really am just not seeing the Howard and Tinsley signings. I am not sure where they are headed with that. Strange vets to bring in for leadership. Strange vets to bring in for mentoring. Strange vets to bring in for minutes and/or production. Not really sure what they think these pickups will accomplish. You gotta hope it is all part of some grand plan, and not just desperate grabs to fill spots in a shortened pre-season with high competition for real players.

It would be nice if he could shoot more than 40%, and 29% from 3.
Maybe he's fully recovered from his injury finally.
I like the idea, but I'm not so sure it will work out.
Could be a failed experiment.
I also think we will see his name in the Utah news, either that or Torrey Ellis/Bobby Williams will be in the news.

I personally think these moves are questionable (at best).

A young team being exposed to such cancers as Tinsley and Howard historically isn't smart. Just ask Porty how that turned out a few years ago...

While we're at it, think we could bring Sheed out of retirement? Maybe talk AI to leave wherever he is and come back here? Or maybe we could bring in Stevie Jackson?

High risk, little reward

This.

I just wonder... Why?

IF we ever actually end up being good in the next few years, these two vets will be that much closer to retirement/leaving.

Why aren't we concentrating on developing our younger guys? If we suck, then we end up having a higher draft pick(s).

If Howard and Tinsley don't suck and actually produce (while taking away minutes from our younger players), we're probably out of the playoffs. And even if we get in, we're probably no better than a 6 seed.

soooo... I struggle to see the long-term pros with this..... someone enlighten me.

Didn't Sheed help win 2 championships? Such a cancer.

Same with Steven Jackson. I think Duncan called him one of the best teammates he has ever had. Such a cancer.

He only made $3 mil last year, I'd give him that. It's less than we pay CJ.

The Tinsley/Howard combo isn't completely reassuring, two screwballs can take down a roster, but if they can keep their heads on straight they are an upgrade over Price and Paul Carter.

why is josh howard bad?
except for smoking reever?
did he do something else i dont k now off.

cus i bet you atleast half the guys on the jazz smoked maryjane

Thanks for making my point!

Both had solid vets and respected head coaches to keep those two in line... That was about the only time those dudes had real success.

When those two haven't had the solid vets or respected head coaches.... Well... Just ask their former teams how that went...

Huge difference between Enes Kanter, Paul Millsap, Gordy Hayward, Devin Harris, and Ty Corbin and Tim Duncan, Bruce Bowen, Manu, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Billups, Larry Brown/Greg Pops.

Sheed had problems when he was younger, but he grew and matured.

Jackson has had off the court problems, but on the court he has always been praised by his teammates.

So again, I ask the question... Why?

In the short term? Maybe we get a few W's and maybe... Just maybe... sneak into the playoffs to only be swept by someone like the Lakers. Cool! Since that was so fun a few years ago!

In the long term? We lose valuable minutes for our younger players and draft picks.

To me, the short term losses are offset by the long term gains by sticking with this youth movement. Lets not half *** it here. Lets continue to go full speed rebuilding through the draft.

Play Gordy, Kanter, Burks, Favors, etc at least 20+ minutes. See what they can do.

They develop.

If our team ends up winning, that's great for their development. Helps us to see where we're really at.

If our team ends up sucking, that's great for our team's development. We'll see where we're really at and rebuild using the lotto picks we'll get for sucking. Move Memo and other pieces to obtain more assets.

Have we learned nothing from OKC?

We're not Miami. No one of real value is going to "bring" their talents to SLC's westside. Might as well draft it and hope for the best.

Personally, I like to see a willingness to look at guys with character issues in their past. Unlike most teams in the NBA, the Jazz have a clear identity and culture. It might be Sloan's greatest legacy. So anybody signing with the Jazz knows coming in how we do things. As a result, KOC can take a few more risks because there's no fear of turning into a Sacramento where the inmates run the asylum.
