Jazz May Be A Part of 3-Team Deal w/ Clippers

No, it is not Harris for Williams. According to Locke the Jazz offered Harris, Dallas considered Harris, Dallas said no. Deal went back to the exception.

I actually like that because it puts jazz in a better position to ask for assetts/compensation for facilitating the deal.

They better - Williams for Harris is a lateral move at best - if they do it while giving up their trade exception to help Dallas in the FA Market this would be a major fail on several levels.

The Mavericks, Clippers and Jazz have agreed to a trade in principle that would send Mo Williams to the Jazz and Lamar Odom from Dallas to the Clippers, as long as Mo Williams elects to opt-in on his $8.5 million contract by Saturday. Williams and his agent are surely gauging interest throughout the league to see what kind of offer he might get if he opts out and becomes an unrestricted free agent, but this deal looks like it is likely to happen. The Mavs would send Odom to the Clippers, who would send Williams to the point-guard challenged Jazz. The Mavs would get a trade exception from the Jazz and be rid of Odom and his contract. Stay tuned. - Rotoworld

It seems obvious that the Jazz would get SOME kind of sweetener out of this. A 1st or 2nd rounder (protected and/or future, even) or dumping Raja to the Clippers.

Let's try to get this absurd George Hill nuclear level tangent back to reality:

If the Jazz could've traded Harris for no salary back and the 15th pick, does ANYONE truly believe the Jazz declined?

oh c'mon, numby. that's smoke and mirrors, and you know better:

jazz couldn't have been in the conversation with indy because indy didn't have a way to acquire harris' salary. so it's not like indy was chooing between harris/hill and picked hill. but nice try.

Why? Wouldn't you want to explore every option before making a huge decision in your life?

it's not that. it's that mo and his agent, on june 28, have clearly already explored the free agent market and made projections and have a very good idea of what mo should do with his PO. in fact, we know that's the case because we had already heard that he planned to opt in with LAC.

now, while three teams try to figure out their draft night strategy based on what happens with this trade, mo and his agent are holding them at their mercy for no other reason than because THEY CAN. and that petulant use of the players' leverage over teams is exactly why we have nasty labor disputes every time a CBA expires.

2nd rounder would make the most sense, but I doubt there is any sweetener.

Also, can you trade a player along with the TPE?

Don't give me that ****. You're the one that threw this butt-****ing retarded scenario into the works of an otherwise fully functional discussion. If you're going to take scenarios completely out of context, own it, don't act like I am the moron here.

As it stands, I tried to take your head-in-the-clouds bull **** and turn it into some kind of practical comparison, which is more than you can say.

Mo makes less than Harris, so they wouldn't need to use the TPE to make that deal.

yeah but as somebody pointed out (?) i can't imagine harris is involved. dallas wants to do this deal without taking back any $. otherwise it defeats the whole purpose for them.

Dallas is the team that has to pony up. The Clips are effectively making a straight deal. Dallas just doesn't want to pay their freight. So while the Clips can toss in a 2nd, KOC should be putting the screws to Cuban. Hard to say how much you can get when only 2.5 - 3 million is at stake, but just getting a 2nd from them isn't enough.

He's insane not to. Get minutes in Utah, play well, and get that next contract, or stay stuck in LAC's point guard logjam.

Thank God. Finally - something to talk about. Let's see if it goes through.

Maybe he likes to win and advance in the playoffs. YOur probally right tho money rules all for most nba players

He probably needs more time. His market will be more clear after the draft. Mo Williams is looking out for Mo Williams. That is what he has to do, I don't blame him. He isn't being selfish, he is just using his leverage to maximize himself. Teams do it constantly, why can't players?

agreed - not liking this at all.

Yes. How petulant of a player to try to have some control over his career. How dare he.
