Jazz May Be A Part of 3-Team Deal w/ Clippers

I guess my optimal situation would be something like acquiring Mo + 17, then flipping Harris and 17 for a pick in the top 12. I don't really believe this is realistic, but it sure would be awesome.

This. Maybe even Portland at #11, who needs a point, would do Harris and #17 for #11. For a one year rental, I doubt they'd do it but you never know.

If we could do it though, we'd have the #11 pick, GS pick, and Jefferson as major assets. Huge, huge, huge to jump up to snag Lillard or MKG.

Harris + the GSW pick is worth a lottery pick. However, please bear in mind that the 2013 GSW pick is already expected to be a lottery pick.

Harris alone is worth a mid first rounder at least. Crap, Chase Buddinger just got traded for the #18 (although that was a Minnesota deal). This draft isn't all that.

williams strengths absolutely conflict with the rest of the roster. he's a ball-dominating guy who likes to take the least effective shot in basketball.

and GVC, you have to be kidding me. george hill is NOT better than devin by any measure. c'mon.

you're proving my point. harris is clearly better than george hill or chase budinger, who are role players at best. so if those two guys can get you 15-18 straight up, devin can buy you a late lotto pick.

question for nerd, gvc, kicky or anyone else. if this trade went down, would it go down tonight prior to the draft or on the spot so that we essentially draft at #17? or is this a, mavs draft who we want at #17, and deal can't go down til after 7/1 or some ****?

I'm still waiting for someone, anyone to answer this. I like Mo, but at 8.5M, for a year when we already have Harris, not so much. So why do this? We better get two 2nds or a 1st out of this. Minimally.

Why do you care about the $$$? It's only a one year deal so it doesn't effect our FA in 2013. If Miller is willing to pay, I like it.

in any trade scenario, the team with the most incentive to leak a proposed deal is the "seller." that way word gets out that team A is about to acquire so-and-so for such-and-such a price, and it motivates other teams to call and try to outbid team A.

I understand that. But what I'm wondering is what if there is another deal predicated upon this deal and the other party the Jazz are working with won't agree unless they saw something concrete. Just speculating, that's all...

if it happens before the first round begins, then the pick is ours and we make the pick.

if it's not submitted/approved until during the 1st round, then what typically happens is that dallas makes the pick for us. it would be announced as dallas' pick, but we would know that the pick was coming our way in most scenarios.

Because as nerd so obviously pointed out, we shouldn't be helping out our competitors simply for the sake of being nice. mo improves us yes, and we get what, one or two more wins next year maybe? so what.

but george hill is good enough to net you the first pick outside the lottery? explain that logic to me.

Serious?

1) George Hill is (and was) a better player
2) George Hill is a significantly younger/more inexperienced player
3) Last year was much more of a buyer's market than this year
4) There wasn't a stink on Hill that the Spurs had been shopping him for the better part of his tenure
5) George Hill is (and was) a better player

I think Harris on his own could come into play around #8 (Tor.) or #10 (NOH) if a big name draftee doesn't fall. Harris gained some momentum with the Jazz's late-season run. If I were New Orleans, I'd consider #10 for Harris if I thought he fit in. The Hornets aren't going to get Lillard and Marshall isn't attractive at #10. Portland #11 would a possibility as well. The issue is that the Mo Williams situation might not be resolved in time for the draft.

I would say though that if the Clippers are willing to trade Mo Williams for Lamar Odom, who has become persona non grata after his stint in Dallas, it's probably time for Mo Williams to move on. The question his agent has to be asking though is--what he could net in free agency this year if he opts out of his deal? Is it worth turning down $8.5M for this season?

okay, thanks nerd. i'm done with this convo because, well, quite frankly, i'm too excited about the notion of getting the 17th pick when the truth is, that has not been mentioned once in any press release regarding the trade.

peace out. i'm gonna go run some errands and come back later. crossing my fingers but i bet we get #60 from the lakers and maybe a future 2nd from them or dallas.

do you really believe hill is/was better?! holy crap. this guy doesn't even close games for his team, and in san antonio he wasn't even a starter. harris > hill, and anybody that believes differently is just too used to picking apart harris because we see him more often than we see the other guy.

We are helping our team too.

Our biggest weakness is outside shooting. Mo Will is a 39% career 3pt shooter. What don't you understand about this? We are getting a career 39% 3pt shooter for nothing. He might be a little overpaid, but it isn't hurting us long term.

The 17 in this deal is a pipe dream. That would be the equivalent of Cuban selling the 17 for 3 million. He's not doing that.

When Harris is 'on,' he's a better player than George Hill. The question is whether he's dialed in and whether he fits with the team.
