devin harris' career PER is almost 18 and has been as high as 21. george hill's highest year was barely over league average (15.7) and he was coming off the bench for 25 mpg and not even closing playoff games.

Before we get too excited about trading Harris, keep in mind that if we did this deal it could mean we're trading Earl Watson in the Sixers' scenario.

I would be ecstatic. 3pt shooter who can play + 17th pick in strong draft for nothing? It just isn't realistic though. Maybe a 2nd rounder.

I think Harris on his own could come into play around #8 (Tor.) or #10 (NOH) if a big name draftee doesn't fall. Harris gained some momentum with the Jazz's late-season run. If I were New Orleans, I'd consider #10 for Harris if I thought he fit in. The Hornets aren't going to get Lillard and Marshall isn't attractive at #10. Portland #11 would a possibility as well. The issue is that the Mo Williams situation might not be resolved in time for the draft.

I would say though that if the Clippers are willing to trade Mo Williams for Lamar Odom, who has become persona non grata after his stint in Dallas, it's probably time for Mo Williams to move on. The question his agent has to be asking though is--what he could net in free agency this year if he opts out of his deal? Is it worth turning down $8.5M for this season?

If the New Orleans #10 pick were in play for the Jazz for a player straight up, I think it would be Al Jefferson rather than Harris that they would want. Anthony Davis should be a great all around player, but he is not a scorer as a big man, but scoring is Al's strength as a big man. Those two would compliment each other well.

bigger picture, billy. it's cuban selling 17 for a chance to have the flexibility to go after nash/williams.

or we could get a pick from LAC instead of DAL, but we'd have to be getting SOME compensation for doing both dallas and LAC a favor.

Hill > Harris when considering $$$.

Harris > Hill when not considering $$$.

Also, Hill is easier to fit into a team. Harris is a bit more specific player who needs a specific team to flourish.
 
It's weird that there is a justification for Harris netting a late lotto pick because a role player got a mid-round pick from a different team with different needs. Harris' age and contract situation are going to make things very different.

I agree, George Hill is definitely a more consistent player. Overall Harris is better but at any time he could be worse due to his inconsistency.

sure it's realistic, cuz we're not talking about the 17th for nothing... we're talking about the 17th for allowing a team to use our financial tools. teams get compensation for allowing other teams to use their cap space or TPEs. it's how we wound up with deron williams.

consistently mediocre is not better than an slightly less consistent one-time allstar who has been his team's best or second-best player for most of his career.

Good point. A rookie at #17 isn't going to help the Dirk/Dallas dynasty much. They have a window of maybe 2 years tops. Although, Royce White might be a bit interesting.

Yeah, but it will help the new Dwill dynasty.

They could draft a number of instant contributors. A guy like Jeff Taylor could be a huge boost to their crappy wing rotation.

Or Terrence Jones or Arnett Moultrie to spell Dirk some minutes as he gets older. Moultrie would be an oop machine and Jones would be a dynamic scorer.
