Jazz Sign Ian Clark

On a positive note, he isn't a grizzled vet, he just went undrafted this year, so if he's any good he could be on the team for some time.

Our next Wesley Matthews.

Let's just hope this guy doesn't come in and hit 3-4 game-winning shots and cost us a chance at Jabari!

Watching all the snapchats and videos on Clark's twitter page. I think he is going to be a fan favorite, seems like a real cool dude.

Locke is saying we actually had to out-bid other teams to get him. Why didn't any of these teams draft him then?! He played 4 years in college and had the best TS% in the nation! Glad we got him.

Do any of you ever wonder if Greg Miller has asked Dennis, " Dennis, I paid for 70 prospects to be flown to SLC, housed and fed them and bought them a bunch of gear so that you could evaluate them all for the draft. I now have 3 players on MY team from the draft that you didn't bring in. Will you remind me why did I spend all that money?"

It is so rare to have a guy with a push shot be successful at being a shooter. It is usually something that is done because you aren't strong enough to shoot long distances when your young. Makes your shot easier to block and you usually are not as consistent.

But this guy has proven that wrong for sure. He was very consistent.

Best part about this is he is a great defender. Show he can play on both sides of the ball.

Eddie House type player which is great off the bench. Much needed role.

And I'm assuming one of the teams who wanted Clark would be his SL team Golden State. Feels good.
Because he went to Belmont. I'll bet PKM and only a handful of others actually know where Belmont is and what conference they play in (I'll admit I had to look it up). Wesley Matthews went undrafted too. There are always a handful of guys that are overlooked due to their size or where they played. Second round is often the place to go after young foreigners so you can retain their rights while they develop. Sometimes you have a small bidding war for U.S. players who didn't get picked. In this case, he was on the radar a little bit (since he played in both SL's), but really vaulted up the charts with his shooting. I like that DL signed him for 2 years. If he works out, Jazz have his rights. If not, it's a team option.

DL: "Greg, the price of smokescreens has risen considerably"

Actually, in all likelihood, the Jazz would have gone with Olynyk, who shot lights out in his workout, and then traded up to get Schroder or Larkin, so it was important to get a look at all those guys. And you never know, one of those guys might be included in a trade (instead of a draft pick) if the Jazz take on an expiring contract next summer.

Nashville. I have a couple of friends who go there, had no idea they had a basketball team that anyone cared about/could produce NBA talent.

"Terms of the deal are unknown, but Duffy described the guarantee to Clark as "significant" and called the Jazz’s offer "very aggressive for a non-drafted player."
Along with five NBA teams, Duffy said many European clubs were interested in signing Clark, but that the Jazz’s offer created the best situation for the shooting guard."

Nice to have that salary flexibility to seize opportunities as they arise. Thanks, KOC, DL and Greg Miller.

I don't get all the comparisons of Clark to Matthews.

Wes was 6'5" and about 225 lb. Clark is 6'3" and about 180 lbs. In college Wes was a great utility player that got overlooked in a major conference. Clark was a big time scorer and defender in a small conference.

Oh and I like Clark better than Lucas III already.
It must be remembered though, he's a 2, not a 1. Sure, in a pinch he might be able to play a little 'Foye' style 1, but he's a 2. Unlike Lucas who is a scoring point guard.

I'm about 90% sure that Hayward will run the offense more than any PG (or player that size) that the Jazz will roll out next year.
