Jazz to Sign Neto

Captain Obvious reporting for duty:

If Neto's agent convinced him to sign with the Jazz this season just on the chance he won't get cut or that he might get some D-League time, that's insane.

If the Jazz wanted to get Neto signed this summer, why draft Hanlan? Why sign Cotton?

If Burke isn't going anywhere AND we signed Neto and Pleiss, we're still very much PG-heavy with only Exum likely to bring any serious interest trade bait.

I think there's a general assumption that the Jazz are operating under the KOC model with these moves, and that the magic number for PGs is 3. But perhaps we are actually going into the season with 4 PGs and a pretty thin bench at the 3-4-5.

3 isn't thin. We have Hayward, Burks, Hood, Ingles, and Lyles (if needed) who can all log minutes at the 3. Exum, and Hanlan if around, could also get burn at the 2 if ever needed.

4 isn't super thin either. Favors-Booker (we'll know soon), Lyles, and Grant (whose deal is guaranteed, I think).

This!

Trey's favorite player=Iverson.

Neto's favorite player, and his father's favorite= Stockton.

I'm rolling with Neto.

My dad and I both love John Stockton... Can I get a deal?

If they kick Cotton to the curb for Neto it will be a titanic mistake.

This is what I am worried about. I won't go as far as Titanic, but it'd be a mistake.

I have no opinion on Hanlan, but he can play the two... it never hurts to have a 2 guard who played point guard... Hornacek played some point in Philly. More passing and ball handling is great.

I don't see the attitude issue with Burke. He took a backup role without complaining, and has taken the fans ire without complaining. He's a good leader. I don't think he's an exceptional player, but I have never seen any indication that he isn't a good teammate.

He didn't play like he was in a back up role though. He still shot a ton and still wanted to be the man.

Backup PGs have been signing for $5 - $7M in free agency. The argument in trading for Trey is that you can get a back-up-caliber PG for $2.5M or whatever his contract is and save a bit of cap. There are probably several teams that would take that deal depending on what they need to give up.

I think we keep Cotton, Neto, Hanlan and I'd look to move Burke, but I think he has some value so I wouldn't move him for nothing.

The current teams I think might offer a protected first round pick are Charlotte, Washington or New Orleans (don't want to help them... last choice). If they wouldn't do it I keep Burke in his current role until trade deadline and see if his play improves. If he improves he might be a keeper... if not there may be an injury and we may be able to move him for something better from a desperate team. After seeing what backup pgs have gotten in FA Burke's small contract may give him some decent value.

Worst case I think we could move Burke for a few second rounders to Philly... Don't think I'd do it ATM though.

Ha... great minds think alike. I had the same thought... the robust market for okay pgs has to increase Burke's attractiveness.

Burke is also a guy who works harder with more competition. Exum is the future. Now the Jazz needed to get some guys to make Trey fight for the #2 spot.

I don't want guys that have to be pressed to work harder... Cotton is busting his *** no matter who we bring in.

Plus he's got a pretty good sized....heart.

As much as I like Cotton I think he is gone.
Exum starts. Burke and Neto split backup PG duties based on matchups and who's hot.
Then it's up for grabs between remaining guards Hanlan, Cunningham, Saunders, etc for final combo guard spot.

Great news. As much as I like Cotton I want a facilitator type pg option.

Hmm.. I dunno, a PG that can't knock down 3pt I don't want neither... I think Cotton is a better prospect than Neto but that's just me. Cotton's like a quicker better 3pt shooting version of Burke IMO.

How are they similar? Is this another one of your racial influenced comps? Besides position, their games lack similarity.

Burke wishes he could do this[video=youtube_share;WccyaS-z1lQ]https://youtu.be/WccyaS-z1lQ
