Jazz vs Clippers: Round 2

What if sitting Burks makes the starting unit 3% worse, but makes the 2nd unit 20% better? He can still play the same amount of minutes and finish games.

The only negative connotation is admitting that the 2nd unit doesn't look like it will be very good offensively. It doesn't speak bad about Burks in any way, and, in fact, is a great compliment to his playing ability.

I don't believe it will happen, however.

That means alot of them get promoted to starters.

I don't see how that means that teams keep one of thier best players on the bench to be thier 6th man.

What if they did?

Well if other teams were jumping off bridges into water, or into a big air bag, or connected to bungees and it seemed to be a good team building exercise and teams were winning more because of it..... then I would have no problem with the jazz looking into it too

We might be arguing two different points. My point is that I believe every team would employ a good 6th man if it didn't compromise the good will of the players.

I'm just argueing that teams generally start thier best players

No need to do so. That seems kinda like common sense.

Some people are just wondering if having Burks as a 6th man, and having him lead the 2nd unit to provide some offense when they may be little of it out there, is an idea worth considering. No one is saying that the starters will be better, I think most would be in agreement that it makes the starting unit worse. However, it may make the team play better throughout the game overall. That's the point. Not too hard to look at objectively I don't think.

I'd rather start Burks and have the 2nd unit scoring come from Kanter, Hood or Exum. If Favors was more agile, I'd love to see a starting front court of Gobert and Favors with Kanter and Booker off the bench. Then mix and match as needed. I really think that Rudy Gobert is going to be special.

I was not argueing whether burks should start or come off the bench. I dont know what is the right call.

I just get the feeling that alot of people think that because a player has a certain skillset (good scorer, likes the ball in his hands, etc) then that means that they should come off the bench. I think that there are alot of players that have that skillset that start. (derozan, lillard, durant, harden) And i think that what is really the determining factor of a 6th man most of the time is the fact that he is not as good of a basketball player as the guy who is starting at his position.

So instead of 6th man being this honor and specially skilled player...... i think it is more just a way of saying "this guy isn't as good as our starters". Most of the time (with a few rare exceptions)

To be honest though, the Thunder should have at least tried starting James Harden before they moved him. I think that was a huge mistake on their part. You should always try to see if you can elevate a player before moving him. That's why I'd like to see Snyder do everything to tap into Kanter's immense potential before they move on. They don't even have to keep him long term. A high level trade is just as valuable.

I agree. Enes is not ready to do his thing as a starter. And he is shying from posting up low and this lowers his value and contribution incredibly. His shot will be there every once in a while, but if Snyder expects consistency, there is still time for that.

If you think Hood will start over a healthy Burks, you should probably cut down on coffee.

Burks is a damn stud. Many have been waiting for him to get a real chance to see what that investment might pay out. I'm pretty confident that he's going to look really, really good once Quin Snyder has the system in place and guys are more comfortable in their roles. Burke, Exum and Burks are going to be fun to watch as the primary 1 and 2 guards.

I just finished watching the replay of the game. I would just like to say wow! What a game, by everyone. The Jazz played hard from start to finish. Hayward was great, not good, great. Burke's new nick name should be general because he flat out leads! Favors and Gobert really played well. Can't say enough good things about the team tonight.

The one thing I did notice on the replay was how many cheap shots the Clippers took in that game. Barnes is a dirty player. He was pushing people from behind and flat out hitting them. Chris Paul and Blake got away with more hand slaps and fouls and two hand pushes from behind on rebounds. To make it worse they were always complaining about being fouled and Doc was really crying to the refs. If the league were to watch this game with a critical eye (and they wont) some of the cheap shots deserved fines IMO.

Jazz need to win if they want to start getting calls. Of course, being the most physical team will mitigate that because punk teams won't want the fight.

Booker is my hero right now.

WE all wanted some nasty and Booker is bringing it. Along with Hayward enjoying his "bully" moniker, I think we're seeing a new toughness come to this team. Buckle up!
