Jimmy Butler's Day off - Jazz @ Timberbulls 10/31/2018 6 pm MST

Ya ice cream > candy no doubt.
I really like moose tracks flavor. (Well all flavors are good)

Best ice cream treat i have ever had are these twix ice cream bars. They are amazing. They sell them in the break room at work and are very hard to resist.

Get one if they have them anywhere near you. They are life changers

We don't have moose tracks here, I actually had some caramel and macadamia ice cream last night, was alright. (i was baked brutal day at work and it was 34 degrees)

never seen the twix ice cream bars, mind you i probably only have ice cream every couple of months.

Would someone stop PGAB from DDOSing Jazzfanz. Last game almost gave me a stroke. I had to endure Derrick Rose going off and couldn't act like a spastic moron in Jazzfanz chat. It was a hard day.

The 1st half the Jazz were a +3 with Favors and Gobert in the 1st quarter. In the 3rd quarter they were a +3 with the Favors/Gobert pair.

So they were a +6 in a game the Jazz lost by 3. I wish people wouldnt talk out their *** and would actually fact check what they are saying.

Boxscore warrior.

I really don't get why people think Exum is playing well. He is certainly isnt playing bad, but right now he is strictly a change of pace guard.

He's playing well enough to get more minutes and to run the offense more often, thats all. You seem to think that hes a finished product, that giving him more opportunity to find his rhythm in game and build on his chemistry with DM, Rudy etc will have a negligible effect on his play.

I tend to beleive that finding rhythm is more important in basketball than any other sport.

I actually just got back from walmart. Had to run out and get a box of those twix ice cream bars lol.

I'm considering a run to Woolworths to grab another pack of smokes, thinking about going out tonight its over 30 degrees outside and its a perfect day to go to the pub but there may be thunderstorms so im on the fence.

What’s the word on Mitchell?
Full disclosure, I don't post here much and I became a fan of the Jazz when you guys got Exum and Ingles (Australian obviously). I don't think Exum should be starting over Rubio now, but I am going to make the case that he should be playing more than 18 minutes a game, and he should be given a bit more freedom to try and create in the half court instead of giving it to Mitchell or Ingles and standing in a corner.

The advanced stats support Exum supporters for the most part early on in the season. Looking at general team stats, the Jazz' ORTG when Exum is on the court is 120.4 PPP (!), when he's off the floor it drops to 114.3, good for a +6.1 difference. Rubio on the floor sees the Jazz ORTG at 113.4, and it goes all the way to 121.8 when he's off (!), good for a -8.4. Defensively, the Jazz are at 112.4 when Exum is on the court vs 110.4 when he's off, a -2 difference which leaves Exum's Net RTG at +4.1 when he's on the floor. With Rubio on the floor, the Jazz defense has a 112.5 vs 109.2 when he's off the floor, a -3.3 difference and overall his Net RTG is a -11.7. There's a lot of factors to consider here, such as the entire starting lineup having issues offensively which could hinder Rubio's ORTG for example. The surprising stat to me there was how bad Rubio's DRTG is considering he gets to play a lot of minutes with Gobert while Exum (who I expected to have a negative DRTG too from watching games) is usually playing with more of the bench unit or Favors. So early on in this young season, Exum is clearly helping the team more than Rubio through simple on/off stats.

Other personal stats suggest that Exum is outperforming Rubio pretty substantially too, even if you don't necessarily agree with the effectiveness of a particular stat in general, Exum outperforming Rubio almost across the board should paint the picture. Exum on left, Rubio on right

PER - 14.1 vs 8.9
TS% - 52.7% vs 45.4%
3PAr - 29.1% vs 41.0% (31.3 3pt% vs 32.0 3pt% to qualify that a bit more)
AST% - 16.2% vs 32.9%
TO% - 9.5% vs 24.1%
WS - 0.3 vs 0.1
WS/48 (to account for the minutes difference) - .093 vs .020
BPM - -1.7 vs -3.3
VORP - 0 vs -0.1

Really after looking through all the stats, I'm on board with the idea of Exum not necessarily being the solution to all problems now, but being a much better option than Rubio at this juncture. I don't want to promote Dante's upside as a reason for why he should start over Rubio, because that implies that Rubio has little upside which we know is false from his excellent run post all star break last season, and it's why I think he should still start.

It's clear to me though that Exum should be given the opportunity to have more free reign to learn how to create in a half court setting if Rubio is given the same freedom to refind his form from last season and Mitchell has the freedom to find his form too. Most people here would agree that Exum is probably the X factor for the Jazz' title hopes, as he's shown he can mix it up with the best defensively under the brightest lights, but if his offense can catch up then he becomes a dynamic 2 way player and someone who becomes just as important at Crowder coming off the bench instead of a guy that Snyder wants to play for his defense but couldn't trust to look after the ball at all on offense.

Preach brother, preach!

Whiskey is much better for you. Well, it is for me at least... in moderation. Not so much when I go well past moderation, but at the time it just seems so fun.

Dante's defense on Rose last night would have shut down just about anyone. He was all over Rose. It's just that Rose made impossible shot after impossible shot. I'm factoring that **** in, like it or not.

Also, I think the Gobert hook shot play happened because Gobert didnt trust Exum. Usually in that situation they go into a DHO with the wing who is in the corner but Gobert looked him off and just went into the post. I think any other player is in that corner and Gobert probably does the usual thing. Prior in the corner Exum/Gobert ran the same action and Exum threw a bad alley-oop pass off the backboard.

I could be way off-base on that, but Gobert never does that and the only thing that was different was Exum closing a game which rarely happens.

Thats a stretch man. DM was out so Rudy decided it was his time on a broken play.

As far as the oop off the backboard, its something that isnt used enough in the NBA.

I can't think of anything positive that Ricky did. The Exum truthers have some ammo with this game. I'm not saying it's Ricky, but that he is a guy that has real limitations that need to be planned around.

Last night was an outlier for the Wolves... not trying to over react. I just think we have accumulated enough data to say a change would help.

The starting lineup this year is -5.3 per 100 possessions... the starting lineup minus Favs and subbing Crowder is +19.5 net rating. You have to give it 8-10 more games imo, but we should outplay most team's bench units... if the starting unit is +19.5 we go from good to great.

I do love Ricky... dude is a truly awesome person... should be celebrated more than guys like Rose. Organizationally he is a guy I want with the team... so I want it to work, but I don't want to just force it if it isn't there. There are other adjustments we should make first, but we should also consider that position an opportunity to improve.

Agree. Id give Rubio a look with Niang or Crowder starting before thinking of making a change at PG.

My biggest issue is Dante needs 20+ mins a night and needs to be more involved. Hr needs to be encouraged to and not afraid to make mistakes.

Agree. There are limitations to what a defender can do in todays NBA which is basically to just stay in front of a guy and get a hand in his face. DRose was just unconcious last night. Maybe we needed a coaching adjustment??? Defend that screen differently or deny Rose?? It was obvious to anyone watching he was draining everything.

I was surprised Snyder didn't try to double Rose to get the ball out of his hands considering that the Wolves aren't a great 3pt shooting team. Think he was hesitant considering that KAT isn't a great matchup for Gobert defensively as it pulls him out of the paint.

Great analysis. It really puts things into perspective. We didn't play all that well as a whole and we still only lost by 3 on the road to a team who made the playoffs last year and had a player who had a career best performance. Not terrible all things considered. Imagine what happens if we actually played well in that game.

I don't like losing. And I'm not impressed that this team doesn't seem to be clicking yet. I expected a strong start to the season. However I think some fans are overreacting a bit (as fans tend to do it's natural).

I have faith we'll be alright. We've been in worse spots. Just last season in fact. This team will bounce back.

Ricky Rubio is the GOAT. Had another off night but hopefully 30 games in he finally gets it clickin, right?

Looking forward to tomorrow: to see how we look against the Grizzlies and to see how Rose plays against the Warriors....
