Jimmy Butler's Day off - Jazz @ Timberbulls 10/31/2018 6 pm MST

If you mean change of pace being a change from Ricky is playing like trash on offense and Exum is playing at an acceptable nba average then I agree. Being "strictly a change of pace guard" is a really vague description that doesn't give any value and kind of demeans what he is doing. Like was Manu a change of pace guard? It's like calling Ricky just a "game manager".

When one player is playing like hot garbage and the guy behind him is playing okay... then some will naturally want the okay player to get more minutes. Dante has been consistently better than Ricky this year... it's that simple. Long term he has more potential. Not saying we make the move but it isn't hard to see.
No, like Dante is capable of doing one thing on offense and that's it. He can't play in the half-court at all.

And he hasnt been better than Rubio all year. Rubio had a 28 point 11 assist game.

Like Ricky, Rudy, and Favs can "make it work". But at what point do we go from configuring work arounds and "being patient" to just shifting to something that fits better. All the data suggests we are much better with stretch 4s... so why piss around with the two big and Ricky configuration? Maybe we get good Ricky back more consistently.

I said he has been consistently better this year, but yeah I get it... he had that good game. He was good in the GS game too... how about the others...

I disagree that he can't play in half court... and if he can only play in transition, but is getting twice the amount of scoring opportunities and scoring more efficiently... then maybe that one thing is really important. Like when Rudy Gobert can only set picks and dunk... turns out that's super valuable.

Yes, it's valuable as a chance of pace guard. It's not valuable when the game slows down in key moments like it did last night. Or when you need to get a wide open shot off from the corner without it getting blocked because you took extra long to shoot.

HH is right. Exum has earned it over Rubio. You guys got to remember, Rubio got to perform last year without worrying about Exum. This year, we have Exum. We don't have to cross our fingers and hope Rubio shows up or not. Rubio is about the now. Exum is about the next decade. Play Exum more if Rubio isn't performing.

He only gets better in the half court by playing him.

Jebus... Crowder misses one, Ingles misses one, Rubio turns the ball over a couple times in the 4th without providing any offensive value and it's Dante's fault cuz he couldn't get his shot off when a guy closed hard.

Dante was better than Rubio last night. Call it a change of pace if you want.

Dante had 11 points in the 4th quarter... which was a key quarter in the game... when it slowed down... how did Ricky do?

I'm not saying bench Rubio... yet. I'm saying there is an issue here and I hope we don't keep duct taping over it.

In the half-court heavy portion of the 4th quarter (when Rubio subbed back in for Mitchell) Exum got 4 FT's, both off of offensive rebounds. He then scored a fastbreak layup in the final 20 seconds. Prior to that Exum was doing great because the pace was fast in Exum's first stint of the 4th quarter (he also hit a rare 3).

Exum played well. I'm not saying he didnt. But he did nothing for the Jazz's half-court execution. Credit to him for keeping plays alive and catching the defense off guard with his change of pace when he could.

Also, I think the Gobert hook shot play happened because Gobert didnt trust Exum. Usually in that situation they go into a DHO with the wing who is in the corner but Gobert looked him off and just went into the post. I think any other player is in that corner and Gobert probably does the usual thing. Prior in the corner Exum/Gobert ran the same action and Exum threw a bad alley-oop pass off the backboard.

I could be way off-base on that, but Gobert never does that and the only thing that was different was Exum closing a game which rarely happens.

I can't think of anything positive that Ricky did. The Exum truthers have some ammo with this game. I'm not saying it's Ricky, but that he is a guy that has real limitations that need to be planned around.

Last night was an outlier for the Wolves... not trying to over react. I just think we have accumulated enough data to say a change would help.

The starting lineup this year is -5.3 per 100 possessions... the starting lineup minus Favs and subbing Crowder is +19.5 net rating. You have to give it 8-10 more games imo, but we should outplay most team's bench units... if the starting unit is +19.5 we go from good to great.

I do love Ricky... dude is a truly awesome person... should be celebrated more than guys like Rose. Organizationally he is a guy I want with the team... so I want it to work, but I don't want to just force it if it isn't there. There are other adjustments we should make first, but we should also consider that position an opportunity to improve.

I think you are off there... I think they might have been trying the Dwayne Casey fake handoff (JV game winner last year and Blake this year) and it went poorly. I think there was 30 seconds left so maybe trying to go too quick for a two for one.

I like how people are calling Rubio garbage when Rose was being guarded by Exum more than Rubio was.
Here's some more facts:
Donovan was absolute trash in the first half.
Rose hasn't scored more than 40 points in 7 years.
We were bound to lose a ROAD game
It's only 6 games in and we arent 1-5 like the Rockets or 2-4 like the Thunder or 3-5 like the Lakers
We had PLENTY of opportunities to win the game. We missed 3 free-throws in the last minute. Our best shot with 20 seconds left was a running fade-away hook shot by Rudy (LOL) and we missed 2 wide open threes with 10 seconds left by Jae and Joe
Stop being bitches

Calling it like it is is not bitching. We choked, yet again in a game we should've won. Can't be doing this in the beginning of the season and then wondering why we are the 6th-7th seed a couple of months down the road.

You can't "call it as it is" 2 months down the road when those games haven't been played yet then. Every team loses games they should have won. It happens, stop being a bitch about 1 game

Locke confirmed what I thought yesterday leading into the game: Butler's absence meant KAT would be more motivated. He said Quin brought that up to him before the game.
