Kings Trade Cousins to the Pelicans

Same gun, but the KOC had two brain cells to rub together

You think a different GM could have done much better if they were told they had to get a deal done for Cousins? And I dont mean trading him earlier, I mean having to deal Cousins this week. It's clear no one really wanted to give up much for a guy with his on-court issues. Oh yeah, and the guy hasnt even made the playoffs.

Apparently Sacramento had better offers on the table but liked Buddy Hield more than any other young player being offered.

This really just sums up that whole franchise right now, and it explains why they got such a bad deal.

People are saying they will benefit from losing cousins, but it's really the other way around. Completely incompetent owner and it just snowballs from there.

Both sides should benefit. The stupid thing was not getting a done deal earlier. They probably could have gotten a slightly better deal done today, but they liked Hield I guess. I still think he has some potential if he can get his swagger back.

It's because he wouldn't commit to re-signing, and that really limited his value. Also reports the King's had better deals available and took the Pels because they think Buddy Heild is going to be a superstar.

Sorry, but that fits right in with the way that franchise has been run since Ranadive bought them. Completely incompetent and just clueless with every move they make. Cousins doesn't deserve the blame he is getting. He should have forced his way out of that dumpster fire TBCH. If anything, I'd give him props for trying to stick it out there.

We'll just wait and see how things play out from here. I'll bet cousin has a ton more success and the Kings continue to be the joke of the league. Nightmare of an owner.

Also, I think Vivek is clearly an owner that runs completely off of emotion and isnt someone who can pick a plan and have confidence to stick with w/e plan it is. That has to make being a GM for him extremely tough, especially when you dont have a lot of experience.

Vivek thinks he knows basketball. That's the whole problem.

Yeah, I heard those reports. I just doubt how much better. Hopefully some potential deals come out. I just hope Hield develops into a good starter for them and Cousins/Davis works out long-term.

I don't believe this for a minute. Ranadive has got to be the worst owner in the league and continues to shoot himself in the foot by being too involved in decisions like this. Bad move after bad move and suddenly he won't be an idiot anymore after cousins leaves?

Not buying it.

Wait, what aren't you buying exactly because the only thing I sold in that post is that both sides should benefit.

Quick question:

Do the Kings keep Tyrke?

Kings clearly needs to tank to keep their pick. Tyreke is UFA at the end of the year. Isn't better for them to waive him too?

I think this is false and naive. there's clearly a plan.. they can have 2/3rds of their roster on rookie deals now easily, handful of young lottery picks.

Ben McLemore just turned 24 he's restricted.
Malachai Richardson 21 - 3 years left on Rookie deal
Georgios Papagiannis 19 - 3 years left on Rookie deal
Skal Labissiere 20 - 3 years left on Rookie deal
Buddy Hield 23 - 3 years left on Rookie deal
Willie Cauley-Stein 23 - 2 years left on Rookie deal

Possibly two top-10 picks this year and 2 2nd rders..

all the vets $$ clears after next season... They're gonna be young and flexible..

They're in position to pick up one of the top PG's in the draft and tank in 2018 for Michael Porter jr, Luka Doncic, Ayton, Bamba or Carter..

Then they'll begin 'going for the playoffs' in 2018-2019

No doubt about it. It really looks like he just has a bunch of yes men around to agree with him and tell him how smart he is. Billy king took a lot of **** for what happened in Brooklyn, but that was all because of the owner. Bad owners can destroy a team, and the Kings have one of the worst, if not thee worst Gm.

Kings got a great draft record

I don't believe the kings benefit by selling so low on a player like Boogie. They really got killed in this deal. Like, I wouldn't be shocked if this trade got a veto from the league for basketball reasons. It's that bad.

Solid post. Was going to post something similar. Hield and WCS plus two lottery picks isn't a bad start to a rebuild.

The benefit is they start their rebuild in a good draft. Could have benefited more? Sure, but there is gain to be had for the future.
