Kirelenko in Trade talks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What reports are saying late December? 12 effective minutes of Diaw is worth AK? Really? I'd rather just give those 12 minutes to Memo (when he's ready), Fes and Sap, and hold onto AK (he'll be more effective in those 8 minutes, and better than the rest of our wings).

Maybe you should stop digging that hole.

Brian Smith said late december early january.

I'm right and everyone is wrong.
Uh, the difference in their salaries is 8mil. The Jazz are about 6mil over the tax. 8 + 6 = 19? If the Jazz were 13mil over the tax, Locke would be right. They're not, and Locke can't add.

Idiots outing themselves all over the place.

He was including the $5 mil payout for being under the LT.

Again I am not saying this is what I want. Read what I post. I said it could work and showing how it could.

I actually like Diaw a lot but not for the salary he is making and the minutes we are playing. I am just posting what is possible if the trade happened. I think the Jazz should hold onto AK unless we can trade him for a talent like Diaw or the same value for a lot less money. AK's contract is killing us and if I was the Miller family I would trade him too.

So we're trading away AK to pay $9mil for 15 minutes of Diaw (and 0 when Memo's back)? Even better.

Well not exactly.. points below:

1. Diaw would be backing up Millsap if Jefferson is to play Center full time while Okur is out with Elson coming off the bench
2. Diaw has 2 years left which in my estimation is not necessarily a bad thing - you can never have too many big bodies in the post
3. Diaw becomes an expiring contract the year after with $9m coming off the books. You save luxury tax money now with a chance to sign another free agent later
4. You've really got to ask the question "What else could we have gotten for AK up to the trade dateline?" There are quite a few expiring contracts next summer and we'd have to que up to that line. At least now Dever knows that they could use him for 1 more year.
5. If we know anything about AK is that he is injury prone as hell and we may not even get much use out of him this year anyway. Why not free up that time for CJ and Hayward to develop?
6. Has anyone thought of the possibility that AK may even come back and sign with the Jazz next summer when he becomes a free agent (ala Raja Bell)? It doesn't mean that Dever has him locked up for his entire career. Why wouldn't AK want to come back? We've over paid him for all those years may be he would want to repay us for that.

Fire away..

don't trade ak

Didn't anyone else watch Diaw in the national tournament. He was flat-out terrible. He had to be taken out of every game after a couple minutes to get a breather. KOC must be thinking he is getting the Diaw of 3 or 4 years ago, not the Diaw of today. Diaw is pushing 285 plus. Diaw is only a 4 now. Yes lets give him Jefferson and Milsap minutes and let Elder Hayward get all of AK minutes. This idea blows.

Us? At this point, the only people effected by AK's contract are the Millers and the Kirilenkos. After the trade, The Jazz would have no more flexibility than before (depending on what AK sings for next summer, the Jazz might possibly have LESS flexibility).

What are you on? This isn't a move to open up playing time, this is very obviously a ****** attempt at saving salary. And why should we not compare them as 3s, anyway. By my count, the Jazz have 0 real SFs if AK's gone (CJs not proven to be of ideal size, Hayward hasn't proven anything, Diaw is likely too slow) and nearly $30 million between three guys at the 4 if Diaw's here. Your logic in this post is baffling.

Its a salary cap move. But you can't just say it only is benefiting the salary.

Miles can play the 3 easily. He did very well against Melo in the playoffs.
Hayward hasn't proved anything but he deserves playing time to develop. Bell can play a lot of minutes also at the 2 so Miles and Hayward can mostly play the 3.

Its not like AK was holding down the SF position. He wasn't amazing at anything last year. Its not a total drop off like your making it out to be.

Paying Diaw $9mil next year is gonna make the Jazz unable to sign AK, even at a reasonable price.

They sure are :)

The Jazz would be saving $8 million in salary, $6 million in luxury tax savings, and would also receive the $4 million payout for being under the luxury tax at the end of the year. 8+6+4 = $18 million.

For the record, every person who supported the Millers on the basis of "they really opened their wallets" when they let Boozer, Korver, Brewer, Matthews, and Maynor go has to immediately eat crow if they give AK away.
