Yeah, judging Exum for being intimidated in a game where most seasoned vets are intimidated is pretty dumb.
The thing I find funny is that people seem to expect Exum to turn into some great player overnight. It's not going to happen like that. It will likely take another 2 years, so people should stop expecting it to happen suddenly. The position Utah is in, they don't really have the minutes to get him a lot of playing time, and they also have some incentive for not going out of their way to get him a lot of minutes, in that it would be better if he's underwhelming for one more year, so that Utah can sign him to a reasonable contract.
Anyway, Utah is playing the long game with Exum and his development, so fans might wanna temper their expectations a bit. The biggest thing to take away from this season is that Exum has shown an ability to get to the rim that isn't easy to come by, and he's also shown that he is capable of being aggressive at times.
There was a moment against OKC when Westbrook scored on Exum, and the next play Exum came down and went right back at him and returned the Favor. It's going to take time, but we've seen flashes of what he is capable of, and that's the best we can hope for this year and maybe next year as well, considering the position Utah is in.
