Looking for genuine discourse re: Donald Sterling/NBA

What do you want a link about? Donald Sterling said he doesn't want black people at the games, his players and coaches threatened to walk. The NBA saw this as a huge problem. They got rid of Sterling. The NBA will now be more popular because of it. $$$

That's not true in the least. You should listen to the recording.

Well, yeah. That's kind of the point of the organization. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. They seem to have been handed that role by the political class and media as well. You got a problem there, it's not with me, its with them.

If you really think this story is about that, then why in the Hell wasn't something said for the past 20 years of Sterling's idiocy! If you can't see government involvement in this narrative, then I can't really help you. There are a LOT of people who want to change the subject and this is part of that. Now that the super top secret bylaws have been released we see that what Sterling done and the punishment are only not in the same ballpark, but not in the same universe. Contract law is pretty literal and doesn't do "penumbras." Normally the target would collapse and run away. But Sterling doesn't give two rips about his legacy or reputation. He will hire a nasty lawyer and sue the NBA. Discovery should be interesting.

So do White Supremicist groups speak on behalf of all white people? I am sure there are literally millions of black people who would not want to give the NAACP award to Donald Sterling. The NAACP does not speak for all black people.

As far as being forced to sell the team goes, he may have a legal right to keep it, but that does not preclude all of his players from quitting on him, and other teams refusing to play a team owned by a racist. Doc Rivers has already said that he will walk away from the team if Sterling continues to own it, and the players have said so privately (Chris Paul said it publicly). The fact of the matter is that his team will likely lose a ton of value if he continues to own it, and it could even go belly up, and the league could contract to 29 teams in an extreme scenario. His best option is to cash out, and get a huge return on a team that he payed only 12.5 mil for, but is now worth an estimated 700 mil.

So...The root cause of black mothers being unwed is unwed black mothers?

Yes. Of course this is true. What do you think happens to the children of unwed black mothers? This isn't a racial problem, its a cultural one. Race does not equal culture.

I have listened to it multiple times. "I don't want you bringing them to my games" was the main thing I got, and to me, that sounds like if I were black, I would be unwelcome at his games.

I was under the impression that Sterling was referring to the black males that his side piece was banging, and then bringing to games.

I could be wrong though.

Weak, just weak sauce. When the President and other politicians speak at the next Aryan Brotherhood conference, call me. The NRA doesn't speak for all gun owners, but they are pretty damn representative.

Also, Donald Sterling doesn't care. That's the issue. You can't force him to do anything. Does the NBA have the power to void the contracts of players signed to the Clippers? Do you think the NBA really wants a protracted fight with Sterling? I actually think they KNOW that the courts will strike them down. But at least they were on the side of being vociferous, like all the other good facebook warriors.

This is the correct interpretation. I'd be really interested in a serious forensic evaluation of that recording.

So what happens to Sterling when his players refuse to play for him? What happens when the coach walks out? What happens when other teams refuse to play against his team? All of these options are on the table, and could happen. I think Sterling would rather sell his team and cash out than have that happen, as he is a very shrewd business man.

nice article.

i kinda fully agree with jabar

reason why i have not listened to a single second of that audiotape or read any transcript

I'm a big fan of Kareem's writings - and not just on basketball. But give me a break. He wants to pretend he knew nothing about Donald Sterling being the person he is when he agreed to work for him? At that time Kareem wanted nothing more than to be a coach and if he didn't spend the first 40 years of his life alienating everyone within 1000 feet of him he would have had a much easier time of it. He should have just stayed out of this one.

Looks like Sterling will not go away willingly. States that the Clips are not for sell. If they try to force him I think it results ina legal battle.

Of course. He's taken The NBA to court before....and won.

Look for a long drawn out court battle with him dying while the case is still pending. His girlfriend will get her own reality show and we'll all just move on to something else.

From your link:
Along with that, commissioner Adam Silver said the league would attempt to force a sale of the Clippers to remove him entirely from the league.

However, prior to the announcement, via Fox News, Sterling said he has no interest in selling the team.

Check out the bolded part. I don't think anyone has heard anything from Sterling since the announcement.

How did you turn that into he doesn't want black people at his games?

Correct but he never sell the team willingly. His marriage is done, his girlfriend threw him on the bus. He's going to die alone so he has no reason to leave any money behind. Power is all that he has left in life and powerful people rarely give up any to begin with.

You are correct that he has not made any public announcements since Silver banned him.

But it shows his mindset was already against selling. So unless they manage to change his mind...

Dude is 82, probably doesn't care about an extra few hundred million at this point. And since he is rich, I can imagine that we are going to start getting a line of black people to come out and start with the "Donald Sterling saved my life when nobody else cared!" They will be bought, but this is going to happen. Thus the reason why nothing happened in the past. . . Never fight with crazy, because crazy enjoys it and has all of the time in the world. Silver is going to get a lesson in this.

Yes.

My company has told me many times that i represent my company and that if i do embarrassing and disgraceful things that make my company look bad, even when not on company time, i can be fired for it

so if you say you are a devout mormon or whatever. and you boss does not like it. and he fires you!
the government will help you proscecute him.

also if what is said at home and your boss fires you because he heard it. or someone gave him the tape. you could sue him right?
