Looking for genuine discourse re: Donald Sterling/NBA

He can still have his opinions and he can still voice them. No one is stopping him.

He just cant voice those opinions while being recorded and still own an nba team

If you want to own an nba team then yes.

If you don't want to own an nba team then say whatever you want wherever you want

That's not true in the least. You should listen to the recording.
wrong

nobody should listen to it. not the media not the nba not you and not him.

GIVE THE man his privacy.

until we get consent from both parties to listen to it. then we should.

until thenm everyone who listens/listened to it should be banned from live for live. because eavesdropping on purpose is depsicable

Every person should decide for themselves.

Every person should decide for themselves.

yeah every person cand ecide if he breaks someones privacy, right?

same thing as every person ha s to decide to rob a liqour store.

wheter or not every person can decide for themself is irrelevant.

but if they do they are despicable and should be banned from freedom for life

You are correct that he has not made any public announcements since Silver banned him.

But it shows his mindset was already against selling. So unless they manage to change his mind...

I think no one knows what Sterling will do. I can see him fighting it tooth and nail. I can also see him realizing that a prolonged legal battle could affect the worth of his franchise by hundreds of millions of dollars, and deciding to sell now.

72 percent of black mothers are unwed.

No, it's about 65%.

https://www.census.gov/prod/2013pubs/acs-21.pdf -- see table 2, 67.8%

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr62/nvsr62_09.pdf -- 62.6% (and declining)

The first page is more interesting because you can see the obvious interactions of class and age on marital status.

That is a MAJOR cause right there.

I would say the high out-of-wedlock birth is a symptom more than a cause. Why do you think the percentage of out-of-wedlock births is so high?

Anyone want to discuss this or pull on that string, cause I'm pretty sure the juicebox brigade will label them as "racist."

Does that mean that you can't come up with an explanation that you feel is not racist?

Yes. Of course this is true. What do you think happens to the children of unwed black mothers? This isn't a racial problem, its a cultural one. Race does not equal culture.

Tell me, what does happen to the children of unwed black mothers, and how does that differ from the children of wed black mothers or unwed white mothers?

In the US, race and culture are inextricably intertwined.

How did you turn that into he doesn't want black people at his games?

It turns into saying that since non-black people seem to be acceptable escorts for his mistress, they indicate a higher level of person generally. Stern still wants black people's money, of course.

Will a battle really effect the value of his franchise that much?

His team has two superstars and is based in Los Angeles. Don't think there is much he can do to hurt the name that much. Besides, a new owner could always just rename the team.

If those superstars decide to pursue having their contracts voided rather than play for the racist owner, then the franchise will certainly start to lose some value. If Sterling remains the owner, Chris Paul and Doc Rivers have already voiced that they would at least have to reconsider their involvement with the team. I would bet that most of the players would probably find their way to another team.

100% sure it's due to women having sex with men who aren't their husbands.
And 99% sure the secondary cause is due to the absence or misuse of birth control.

That's some truly cogent social analysis. Thanks.

You and the people of your ilk are getting more and more marginalized. I know you feel it and I know what you see going on around you. I feel how scared you are of the impending change in the populace and how uncomfortable you feel when people of color are in positions of power. Positions that will allow them to change social policy. It's a blind hate that encompasses you and mandates you to give support and rationale to the worst our society has to offer.

Don't worry though, we don't live forever. I guess that's some solace. Or, you can always say that "oath" to yourself as you fall asleep...you know which one.

It is a problem that I do not think has a cut and dry answer. I do however agree that it is a symptom of a larger problem and not a cause. Although it certainly does not help.

It comes from a wide range of things. To name a few: The dramatic failing to properly educate inner city youth (usually have high %s of minorities) by society at large. The glorification of the "thug" lifestyle by the entertainment industry. Societies drift from the value of the nuclear family (I am including any family with two parents).
